When you look at the NBA today, you see stars lining up and the future is indeed brighter… John Wall, Derrick Rose, Kevin Love, Blake Griffin, Brandon Jennings, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant…just to name a few… Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan and Ray Allen have done their part in saving and maintaining the competitiveness of the league and as their time to retire comes up in less than a decade for now, we look back and say hey, they were able to build around the legacy brought upon by the man… Who is this man? Well, we all know who it is… He’s the guy who turned the NBA into one of the most well-known league in the universe… He was the global icon who many if not everyone admired… His competitiveness on the court is unmatched and having 6 championship rings does prove it… (Sigh) I miss those days when Michael Jordan played.

This just came to thought right now on how the league today has changed. Yes, we did had guys like Dwyane Wade, Dwight Howard, LeBron James, Chris Paul to rely on excitement and winning… Yes, they are the stars of today…Yet none of them has that same impact that Michale can produce… LeBron decided he didn’t want to become like Mike. Kobe is probably the second closest to MJ but still…….  I can’t help but feel and miss out the time when Michael Jordan was playing… The guys listed have done a great job in preserving the league’s legacy as the best basketball league in the world but it was Michael Jordan who started it all… Magic and Larry were the pioneers indeed but MJ took it to a whole new level. I just miss the old days…

I miss the competitiveness that he had no matter who’s facing him, he makes sure he gets his man without any excuses. I remember in January 1996 just that season where MJ and the Bulls were setting a record for most wins in a season (72-10)… They were visiting Philadelphia in what was considered as a meaningless walkover against the struggling Sixers… Jerry Stackhouse (a then rookie and fellow Tar Heel) proclaimed that no one could guard him "not even Michael Jordan"… and how Michael took it as an insult and worked out a 48 point outburst in a crushing win over them… Wow… It goes to show that don’t bother insulting a guy whose competitiveness is insatiable… What about that early November game against the newly expansion Vancouver Grizzlies (same 1995-96 season) where the Bulls would’ve lost that game if not for Michael’s scoring barrage in the last 6 minutes (19 points in 6 minutes)…

I miss how he just put up a facial on someone trying his best to at least get a hand on his shot(epic fail). Ahhhh… the explosiveness…

I miss the tongue-out… That was a symbol no player has done (well, Kobe did have that once in a while but still…the tongue out was MJ’s trademark)…

I miss his tandem with Scottie… Those two were nearly unstoppable… Like MJ once said, he prefers to call him a "PARTNER" not "No.2"… The Robin of Batman… Ahhh…yes… Those were the yesteryears.

I miss the 50 point games… Those games were fun to watch over and over again… Remember how he torched the C’s for 63 in 1986? despite the loss, the C’s couldn’t stop the people from talking on how they nearly got murdered single-handedly by Jordan out there…

I miss the clutch baskets and buzzer beaters… Yes Kobe Bryant can provide that in our time now… But like most people would have argued, Kobe Bryant is NOT Michael Jordan and Michael Jordan is NOT Kobe Bryant… MJ simply had that something in him which is hard to describe that makes me say he’s different from the players today… I miss how he’d break Cleveland’s heart with those clutch shots… And I miss how he’d do it over and over again to guys like Craig Ehlo and Gerald Wilkins…

I miss his battle with New York… It was physical and intense and both teams want to win and that’s why they created one of the greatest (though lopsided) rivalries of all time in the 90’s… It was what the NBA was all about… Imagine the Golden State Warriors of today banging against New York back then… I bet Stephen Curry would have a broken nose and Monta Ellis would have a broken arm…

I miss the flu game… The one he was so sick but still managed to salvage Game 5 of the 1997 Finals versus Utah finishin with 38 points including the clutch three that put them ahead…

I miss the Bryon Russell pat on the butt… His last shot of his career (Wizards days don’t count right?LOL)

Yes… Those were the days… It has been 20 years since the Chicago Bulls won the 1st Title… It’s easy yet hard to look back at those days when Michael Jordan was still the GREATEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME… I miss it a lot…

I was lucky. Back in the early 90’s we didnt have nearly the access to as many nba games as we do today. No league pass and if i remember correctly the only national games were on sundays for quite a while. However i had WGN whiich is a chicago station that carried all the bulls games so i got to see tons of mike and the bulls. But otherwise you had to wait until either sunday or your team played the great players to watch everyone. Then th eplayoffs were like basketball heaven where you didnt leave the couch and you got to see all the stars all day long. So much basketball exposure now between tv and the internet that it doesnt seem as special to watch the great teams/players as it did back then.

I miss Jordan. Reggie millers late game heroics. Prime Charles Barkely who was talking all kinds of funny stuff and then backing all it up on the court. The great center battles between robinson, olajwon and ewing. Young stars like jason kidd, grant hill, larry johnson. And maybe most of all, i miss nick van exel.

1 thing about today’s top players is most of them are friends..That takes away some of the competiveness…They dont go hard at their friends…

Either they played with each other on AAU Teams, attended the samr camps or played against each other in high school…All of this Bro-Love is a bit too much…I love the old days when players wanted to really embarrass other players..

Remember when Jordan was the talk of the league during his rookie year? And vets like Thomas got jealous and tried to deny him the ball at the All-Star Game that year? Jordan gets pissed even to this day when he’s asked about that…But it pushed him to be great..

Alot of people who truly love the game of basketball hated Lebron’s idea to Join Wade in Miami…We love seeing competition…

Grewing up my entire family were basketball fanatics..Magic and the Lakers were my favorite team…Whenever the Lakers were on tv it was family night…

The Finals were broadcasted on tape delay in the late 70’s and early 80’s..CBS were afraid nobody would watch it during primetime…They said the league had became too black, too many drug users and too mant bad teams..So many teams were losing money back then…But Magic,Bird and David Stern saved the league..

I miss all those things too.

Even though he kept my team the Knicks from winning a title in 1993 but what can you do.  At least the Knicks were a legit title contender back than.  Also the league had a lot of great players and many All Time Greats as well.

Even thou I was born in 91 I remeber seeing his face and watch him play in the mid 90s but I never really understood the game until he was with the wizards. I was honored to see him play in a Wizards jersey vs a prime Tmac in Orlando. He is one of those once every couple centuries type player, I just hope when another like him comes they just let him play instead of trying to compare him to mike

Jordan was such an amazing player to watch.  I vividly recal calling one of his 50 point games vs the Miami Heat, who at the time was starting Sasha Danilovic at shooting guard.  He was all shot and no D and I told my friend Jordan was going for 50 that night….he did.

Another favorite Jordan memory was in 1996-1997 when the Bulls had their first game the Sonics since the 1996 Finals and Jordan shot a jumper ( not a heave ) from half court before half time.

I guess I was lucky I got to see every game Jordan Played being from chicago i cant imagine living somewhere else and not being able to see true greatness on a consistent basis.  It mustve sucked to only see the bulls in those days on NBC sundays.  But I do miss those days that was great basketball in my opinion.

I’m 30 so I got to watch a good bit of Jordan’s career. What I miss about the NBA during that era is the competiveness and rivalries. Jordan had a great rivalry against them tough D Piston teams, who wouldn’t think twice about fouling him or anyone else hard. As others have said guys played harder against each other back then, I remember when Karl Malone split Isiah Thompson open with an elbow. I think guys back then were more of gym rats too, there are a lot of guys today in the league who are athletes first and basket ball players second. For me the worst era in basketball was when them Ewing – Starks Knicks team were real good, the style of play made the league unwatchable for me for a few years. I don’t like Kobe, but I think he is better then Jordan was, but has no where near the impact.

Great post. I miss MJ too. Reggie Miller. I couldn’t stand John Starks or Anthony Mason, but they were competitive as hell. Nicky V… He used to be one of my favorite players too lol. I miss those days. NBA on NBC on Sundays. I still remember the theme song. I miss Penny Hardaway and Tim Hardaway, back when he was the king of the killer crossover. I miss Grant Hill when he was in Detroit.

One of my best memories was when Reggie led that comeback vs the Knicks. I remember I was over Landon Turner’s house (Former IU player and first round draft pick who got paralyzed in a car accident before he ever played), and I betted one of his friends $10 that the Pacers would still win the game lol. That’s when Reggie went nuts and hit all of those threes. He had a baffled look on his face and paid up lol.

I guess it’s on to the next one though.
