His stock is steadily rising to the point where I’m scared to death he may declare after this season. Fran Frachsella even said there aren’t five guards in the country better. I’ve seen four NBA moves from him in the last two games. He’s shooting 55 percent from the field for crying out loud. It’s gotten to the point where he has supplanted Kris Joseph as Syracuse’s go-to-guy. I’ve watched every game this year. Kris got off to an excellent start, but lately he defers to Waiters. Granted Kris doesn’t have the "killer instint," in some close games this year such as Standford earlier this season, he exerted himself. But Waiters is too good. I still can’t believe he’s only playing 20 mins a night. He logged 22 mins last night. It’s time we move him to at least the first round of this year’s draft. Personally, I don’t want him to go. He has that Eric Devendorf killer attack that Syracuse rarely gets. Thoughts anyone???

I think he is gone too and whoever is in charge of his PR machine is brilliant.  I was even surprised he was back with the Orange following last season as it was abundently clear he was not happy with his minutes or roll with the team.  I suspect Boheim saying things like "if he played 30 minutes he would be putting up stats as good as anyone in the country" (paraphrasing) is how Coach B lured he back to the Cuse.  Basically saying, we have a good team, we will get a ton of exposure and if you work hard I will boost your stock and than you can leave for the Association.

I am speculating but it makes sense.  What makes no sense to me is that Waiters is not starting at the point.  I know Jardine is a senior and Coach B gives a lot of credence to that, but Waiters and Triche need to be on the floor more than Jardine.  Scoop makes too many bad decisions and those bad decisions tend to be at critical points of the game.

Scoop is more than capable of handling the ball with less of the offensive load falling on him this year. Last night he had 10 assists and one turnover. Also, Waiters and Scoop are first cousins (each of their mothers are sisters or something to that effect). If you go by mins, Triche is largely on the bench in the second half.

I do agree it look like he would transfer because Michael Carter Williams was coming in, but he isn’t close to being ready for Big East play. Neither is Christmas. Syraucse has a glaring weakness upfront. They have NO inside scoring on the offensive end.

yeah Scoop and Dion and cuzins. they from south philly, im from north.. but Dion come back next year but he could get injured or maybe they might rely on him to much. So his stock is high this year. The cuse has Trevor Cooney coming in next year, remember that name, he can really score. he redshirted this year. He is a 6’4 Devendorf type player

Scoop just scares me in tight situations because he likes to get loose with his decision making, or at least that is what I have seen over the years.  Coach B sticks with him though.

I did not notice last night late in the game Waiters had a chance to hit Joseph for an easy bucket in transition.  Waiters ended up holding the ball and getting fouled in front of the SU bench, but Joseph made it a point to go up to him at the line and remind him he was open.  I think Bilas made the comment he would have liked to see the ball move as well.

I guess it is a fine line between that closer/killer mentality you mentioned above.  Love this Orange team though.  Just imagine if they had an inside threat ala Rick Jackson.

I have heard more comparisons to McNamara than Devo.  Either way, Cooney will be a welcomed addition next year.

I wrote about this a couple days ago, rumor around Syracuse is that Dion may be acedemically ineligible, I have no link or anything, just rumor around town, if thats the case I think Jimmy B will work something out to let him play out the year and then he’ll be gone. If that wasnt the case I think he would of come back next year, and probably be in the player of the year conversation.

His stock won’t be higher than it is now and he won’t take the chance of dropping in the draft. I have heard the academic rumors too, but not from anyone/ institutions that are credible. He’s gone.

I have to disagree with you Chris, I think his stock can only get higher, now if at the end of the year if had led us to the National championship with a great BE and NCAA tourney performance, I"d have to agree with you, but right now I still think hes a bit underrated and can only move up on draft boards.

Yep, Cooney sat the bench the first game before coach B decided he would redshirt. He just wasn’t going to get the mins this year. I hear he can shoot the LIGHTS OUT, LOL….

I did notice he didn’t pass to Kris, but must have missed the Bilas comment. Kris asserted himself more earlier this season. Also, two years ago, he didn’t have a jump shot and only when to the basket. Maybe Wes Johnson free him up, but he doesn’t drive nearly as much as he should. He relys on his jumper WAY too much know. He’s starting to remind me of Demetris Nichols, a top 15 slaher recruit who finally show up senior year with a three ball a nothing else.

I think it depends on how ‘Cuse does in the tournament. If they win it all, he will prob leave… but after Marvin Williams went 3rd overall and failed to live up to his potential, teams will prob be hesitant to draft him high being that he comes off the bench. If he stays another year and starts he will most likely be a lock for the lottery, that may be important to him. However, it might not be best for him. In my mind he projects to be a O.J. Mayo/Ben Gordon-esque bench scorer and going to a lottery team might put him in a situatioin where he has a bigger role than he is ready for.

In regards to the comment that Waiters should be starting over Scoop, who starts and who doesn’t really doesn’t matter.  Boheim starts with Scoop and Triche, but by the end, whoever is in is who is hot.  Sometimes Scoop and Dion, sometimes Dion and Triche, sometimes Triche and Scoop, hell, sometimes even MCW.  So, it doesn’t matter who starts, it matters who finishes.

I agree with Truett, if they win it all this year he’s gone (similar to what happened with Carmelo) Hope he sticks around, but I hear he may just want the money now because of whatever finacial situation he’s in.  In the deep draft this year, he might go late first, but maybe he doesn’t care about that.

I think both he and Melo are gone.
