Last post created by me for the day.

I have an issue with the way people are drafted into the NBA, well at least at the PG position.

This year, the top guard being projected to be the first PG taken in the draft is Marquis Teague, who isn’t playing anything like a lottery pick. His numbers read:

10.4 PPG 2.3 RPG 4.5APG and 3.1 TO’s per game, while shooting 42% from the field, 28% from 3, and 68% from the free throw line. Not bad, but if you watched the actual games you would see he isnt playing that well, even if his numbers suggest otherwise, besides the shooting which is terrible.

Some feel Myck Kabongo could be the first PG taken but he isnt playing that well either his numbers are:

9.9 PPG 3.9 RPG 5.5 APG and 3.2 TO’s per game, while shooting 42% from the field, 26% from three, 66% from the free throw line, and standing at 6’1 160 pounds not being able to shoot and not an above the rim player doesn’t help him either.

Those two are projected #1 and #2 pick for PG’s but I dont see why some other players dont get respect such as:

    Kendall Marshall who stats are:

5.3 PPG 2.7 RPG 10 APG and 2.4 TO’s per game, while shooting 42 percent from the field and 30 percent from three.

    Tony Wroten stats:

16.8 PPG 4.8 RPG 3.4 APG and 4.1 TO’s per game, while his turnover number is high, if you’ve watched him play you will see that he is a hell of a passer and creator and once he slows down he will be very good, and he just got into the starting line up so ALL his numbers can possible go up.

    Damian Lillard stats:

25.2 PPG 5.8 RPG 3.4 APG and 1.8 TO’s per game, GREAT numbers, while he plays in a lower conference he still shows he is a big time talent and a great scorer.

There are others out there as well Maalik Wayns 17.2 PPG 3.3 RPG 5.2 APG

Scott Machado 13.3 PPG 4.8 RPG 10.3 APG

    Lorenzo Brown,Tu Holloway

    And few others.

My whole point is I agree with hype sometimes, but I also agree you have to prove you deserve.

When Derrick Rose came into college he lived up to his hype

John Wall lived up to his

Kemba Walker, Jimmer Fredette,Jeff Teague, Reggie Jackson and others were sleepers but went out and PROVED they were big time players.

Then you have the guys like Jerome Randle,Tyrese Rice,Kalin Lucas, Demitri Mccamey, etc that had outstanding careers and dont even get selected.

Kalin Lucas won Big Ten player of the year and took Michigan State all the way to the final four his SOPHOMORE year and came back and took State to another Final Four but got injured and played solid enough to at least get a secound round selection his senior year, but no team selected him.

I understand some players are more athletic, have more potential, but at what point does the line get drawn? Me honestly I have not seen Kabongo or Teague play like lottery picks, or NBA players for that matter.

Maybe it just me but I just think some players get snubbed because they dont have enough hype

Well, I don’t see how you mention hyped and not go in on Perry Jones III and Harrison Barnes. Go compare those guys to a one and done guy like Gerald Wallace who found success in the NBA and you will laugh your behind off and don’t even think about comparing them to Durant or Carmelo what a joke. My point is they are behind all those guys in production even with more college under there wings. I hate to be redundant but this draft is being so overblown. People say the depth is what has them excited, it has to be that because the stars are not making themselves noticable.

O naw bro, its alot of hype over substance at every position, but I said I was just looking at the PG spot, but you right even though I would draft Perry Jones, I watch him some games and think like WTF? How is he a top 10 pick, he has all the tools but the one thing about him is that he’s soft as butter, he doesn’t like any kind of contact at all.

Kabongo is very talented…..injuries throwing him off track in the start. Marquis Teague is very over rated!

I agree, I havent been high on Teague or Kabongo at all this season.  This is a weak draft for point guards, but I’d take Marshall if I were in the market for a pg.  He breaks the mold of a lot of the newer style high scoring point guards coming out lately, but his vision and ability to create shots is the best I’ve seen at a college level in a very long time.

I do have some questions about his defensive ability at the next level, especially since he’d be guarding some very athletic and strong point guards, but Kabongo is very small but Teagues’ athleticism doesn’t mean a defensive mindset either.

and knew Wroten’s name would be in here, lol.

what do you mean by hype?  Wroten was hyped coming out of HS and is still hyped, but more for his exciting style of play than his skills right now.

if you mean by hype *expectations* well, there always has to be hype or we wouldnt be tuning in to see some of these guys.  college bball is a little different now then what it used to be.  you didnt have so many all-americans top HS players on the same team.

for instance, if Perry Jones didnt have Acy, Miller, and those other guys on his team, we would be saying he is an absolute monster, likewise with Barnes.  Yet still they are the best players on stacked teams!  If Teague were playing at Wake Forest this year….you’d be on his jock.  Remember, Jeff was good as heck but he wasnt a top level recruit….I think Rivals may have had him in the top 50.  Same with James Johnson.  You cant go by overhype and you have to pay attention to those who are underhyped as well.

I’m still on the Kendall Marshall bandwagon, he is exactly what i would want from the position in a floor general with the best vision in college basketball. The other guys ceilings are by far superior than his true, but they all have major holes in their games currently and have allot of work to put in to get there. Kendall is a consistent outside jumper away from being what could be a very good pro. I’m salivating over the idea of him possibly landing on my jazz team next season, as i feel he would be the perfect fit in their rebuilding situation.

Idk if you thought I was bashing Wroten or not, but to be clear:

The whole point of the topic is how is it that Teague and Kabongo are producing the least, but getting the most hype about being selected the top PG of the draft.

I’m saying Wroten SHOULD be mentioned in the same breath as them, he’s producing and playing pretty good as of late, maybe you read the topic wrong.

And I know Jeff Teague was a top 50-60 player and a top 10 PG, BUT NOBODY expected him to blow up like that….not even himself, he was quoted saying his senior year in a Rivals conversation that he knew he probably would NEVER make the NBA, so he takes his education very serious and expects to be at Wake all four years.

He happened to break out his sophomore year and end up in the NBA, but nobody expected that, he had to PROVE himself, he was never projected 2 and done, he almost ended up at Southern Illinois before a break out AAU Tourney

So idk what was your point is?
