In the upcoming off-season most attention will obviously go to the big FA’s, guys like Aldridge, Love and Gasol, who will get top dollar for being star players in todays league. However, this season and during the play-offs we have seen several players who represent sneaky good value by doing more than just filling the stat sheets or who are seemingly undervalued. Given the increasing knowledge in today’s front office you would expect GMs to value these guys properly. However, what do you believe these guys are worth? Would you say they get more or less than I predict?

    Jae Crowder (SF, 6-7, 240lbs)
After a very solid season in Dallas, Crowder showed in Boston in spurts why I consider this guy Draymond Green-Lite. Although he is more of a SF, he ended playing 30% of his time as a PF in Boston, helding is own both on offense and defense. Has shown glimpses of the complete package, shooting over 40% from 3 in Dallas (’13-’14), handing out over 2.5 apg his final year in college at Marquette, and
Showed his versatility in college for Marquette (2.5 apg) and even showing a bit of a driving game this year. Considering he is a restricted FA someone might have to overpay a little bit to pry him away from the Celtrics.
    Prediction: 3yrs/$18 million

    Kevin Seraphin (C, 6-10, 265 lbs)
This guy was actually mentioned by Steve Aschburner as one of the under-the-radar FAs for this summer. This guy is a hard-nosed, though big man who is suprisingly good on offense as well. His physical play on defense comes with a nice shooting touch on offense (70% on FTs), making him an attractive option to play even late in games. Considering a guy like Haslem got almost $6 million for two years, I estimate Seraphin a little higher.
    Prediction: 2 yrs/$8 million

    Al-Farouq Aminu (SF, 6-9, 215 lbs)
One of the more surprising playoff-performers, Aminu showed (albeit in small sample) he can actually shoot a bit from outside. However, his main value comes on the other side of the floor, where he is one of the better defenders, especially handling SGs and SFs. As long as he sticks to his qualities, which are defense and athleticism in the open floor, he will have a place in the league. However, considering his limited shooting and passing abilities his value is a tad below Crowder’s.
    Prediction: 3 yrs/$14 million

Alonzo Gee (SF, 6-6, 220 lbs)
Even though Gee bounced around a bit in the league he still would provide solid value. He is a solid shooter (76% on FT for his career), and has shown spurts in which his 3 point shot is falling. During his years in Cleveland he showed he can be more than just an afterthough on offense, chipping in with over 10ppg. Basically every team could use a solid wing player like Gee, especially when he would be able to elevate his distance shooting to become league-average.
    Prediction: 2 yrs/$5 million

DeMarre Carroll (SF, 6-8, 212 lbs)
Another do-it-all guy he increased his value tremendously this year, and again in the playoffs he shows why he is worthy of a significant raise next year. Shot almost 40% from 3 this year, and combined with top defense and close to 2 apg this is just one of those players every team should have. Question is, can he do more than just be a role player? Can he raise his game to become more dominant (a la Luol Deng, or Chandler Parsons)? Although I love this guy, I do not believe he will be able to improve his game even further, and thus I would say he is a bit a product of Atlanta’s system. However, in the right system this guy is very valuable and I believe more there will be more than one front office willing to give this guy a rich contract.
    Prediction: 3 yrs/$27 million

I think DeMarre Carroll is showing his worth in the playoffs right now with 6 consecutive games of 20+ points.. Honestly, who saw that coming? He’s been great for Atlanta as a two-way starter. I bet he gets something like 3 years 36 million.

I believe the Pelicans will lose Asik this off-season, Seraphin could be a decent fit next to A.Davis.

Not sure, considering Seraphin is not exactly a stalwarth on defense. I like Asik for their team actually, as he doesn’t demand any touches and is able to defend the bigger Cs. When other teams go small just sub your C for Anderson, and play Davis at the C. As far as replacing Asik, I actually believe Perkins would be a decent fit as a defensive C that plays limited minutes. He will cost not as much as other options (e.g. Asik himself, Wright), and does provide the needed grit young teams like the Pelicans need.

I think the best comparison for Crowder is actually DeMarre Carroll. I can easily see Crowder having a similar season to Carroll in the future.

Blazers should hold onto Gee, can provide that intense defensive energy off the bench. Just a guy you like to have.

As someone else mentionned his name, you could have included Brandan Wright on your list. Actually I think he’ll go back to Dallas, that’s where he was at hs best.

I actually had Wright in there in the beginning but dropped him because it would be too much text. But indeed, I really like Wright and I think he will have a long career in the NBA.
