Lebron is going to be in his 30s next year. Can the Cavs afford to wait for Wiggins to develop while Lebron’s prime goes by or will they pull the trigger for Love in a win now move?

Thanks to Lebron’s size and athleticism I imagine he has probably 5-6 more years in his prime before he declines. I’d personally keep Wiggins rather than dealing him to acquire Kevin Love. Wiggins would be my line I wouldn’t cross.

I like the idea of riding with LeBron and the young guys, but also signing some older pieces like Ray Allen, Pau, and Luol Deng.  Maybe even bring in Mario Chalmers as a backup point guard too.

If the Cavs have to trade too much to get Kevin Love, then maybe they shouldn’t do it…

Pau actually looks like a perfect fit for the Cavs now as a sixth man off the bench or as a starter with another 7 footer in Andy V.  Pau and Andy V could give another big team like the Spurs some trouble.  Andy V can rebound and defend and Pau can score.

Ray Allen would give them that shooter that they need.  With LeBron as the first option and Kyrie Irving as the second option, I think Pau and Ray Allen would be solid fourth and fifth options if they elect to make Waiters their third option.   Andrew Wiggins or Luol Deng would basically be the fifth guy.  Bennett, TT, and Andy V would also chip in some points.  If they could get Mario Chalmers then he would give them an ideal backup point guard who can make clutch shots when he is on top of his game.

It looks like the Cavs are offering Waiters, Bennnett, and a first. They should also throw in TT and ANOTHER first rounder (Heat pick or Memphis pick).

LeBron, Love, Irving, Wiggins, Andy V, and Ray Allen/Mike Miller sounds really good.

LeBron will be the top MVP candidate for the next 3 or 4 years.  After that?  A few more years of All Star potential.  He could play at a high level to the age of 37 or 38.  He could probably stick on an NBA roster until his mid-forties.

If I am him, I skip the summer FIBA world cup, get some rest, try to play fewer minutes next season, and try to rack up as many titles and MVP awards in the next 4 or 5 years.

His "window" to pass Jordan is open for the next 4 or 5 years.  If the Cavs can get Love AND keep Wiggins then I think the Cavs get to the Finals in 2015 and would be the favorites to win it all.  That would give LeBron FIVE STRAIGHT Finals which has only been done by Bill Russell.  It would also put a Four-peat in play.  A Four-peat (which would also give LeBron 6 rings and 8 straight Finals) would clearly put him on the path to be the GOAT.

Then he is 34 or 35 with a few more years left to rack up some more points, boards, assists, steals, and blocks.  After a 4Peat he would basically be padding his career stat totals.

I think he has an outside shot at 35,000 points, 10,000 rebounds, and 10,000 assists if he plays into his late 30’s/early 40’s.

Hey, if the Cavs end up with LeBron, Love, Irving, Wiggins, Andy V, Ray Allen, a cheap veteran, plus those extra picks I can see them getting four straight titles.

A 4Peat starting with the 2015 Finals gets LeBron the GOAT.

i could see lebron in his prime for antoher 2-5 years with still being a good player up to 37-38.  he could easily transition into a boris diaw type player in his late 30s, early 40s.

as far as the cavs, hold strong.  vets will take pay cuts to play with lebron.  irving, wiggins and lebron with waiters off the bench has to be the top backcourt/wing combo in the east right off the bat.  if bennett is healthy, you got a guy that has a lot of kevin love type game.  then, you got a great enery guy like thompson off the bench.  adding a pau gasol to the mix would be legit.  and have $15M in team options can’t hurt.  the cavs won today.  it really doesn’t matter what they do, they’ve already won the big prize.

I was talking about this with Mikey V the other day. He says LeBron has about 5-6 more elite seasons in him and I agree with that. The latter few may be very different in terms of his role but he’ll be elite nonetheless.

The thing about LeBron James, I think, is not how many elite seasons he has left in him, but how slow his decline will be.  We’re talking about a freakish athlete who has never suffered a serious injury.  We may be looking at someone who may be an elite athlete well into his late 30s with minimal dropoff, but I suspect he retires before he turns 40.  The one thing we might notice first about a dropoff concerning LeBron will be the one thing that sets him apart from any NBA player: elite speed for his size.  You can find crazy athletic guys in the NBA, but none of them have the size and speed of Lebron James to go with it.

LeBron is now not reliant on his athleticism to be good. It makes him elite, but his size, post moves and shooting touch means that he could be a very good player if he was an above average athlete, which he will remain for nearly the next decade.

I liked the juves point earlier talking about LeBron being a ‘Diaw’ type player later in his career. Already he plays the 4 in a small ball lineup, but as he loses quickness I think he’ll transition into a full time 4 that can post up or stretch. Barring injuries, I see him playing til he’s 40.
