how do i determine my vertical?
mines like 22. You can take like a sharpie and reach as high as you can and make a dot. Then jump as high as you can and make a dot on the wall and measure the distance
Mines 32 running....25 w/o.
I am like 5'9" and have dunked before on a regulation rim my younger days also slam the ball against the back rim once so I guess my vertical is up there. I could dunk one handed off one step in high school. i can still touch the rim now but now i am much older adn heavier.
Take a peace of tape and stick it on a wall on the highest point you can reach with your arm fully extended above you without jumping. Then take a piece of tape and jump as high as you can and stick it to the wall at the apex of your jump. You can either run into the jump for max vertical or just jump straight up off no steps for no step vertical. Then you measure the difference between the two pieces of tape.
Im taller than most of yall at 5ten and a half but i can only touch rim. I guess im only 15 so i'll be pretty tall when i'm older. I know if i get six feet which i should this year i'll be able to dunk which would be awesome cus i'm just a sophomore.that will be awesome!right?
I like the tape idea I think that would be the most accurate to do at home. I have never measured my vertical. I can do a 2 handed tomahawk off of both feet. I can dunk off of one but I have tendenitis in my jumping knee. But yeah I think the tape would be the best way to do it. And not to be a downer but jumping off of one leg is not a vertical. When you jump off of 1 leg your body streches out further. That's why most people can dunk off of one leg and not 2.
mikenike... if your 5'7" and can only touch rim, your vertical is not 35 inches... i am only 5'9" and can dunk easily... my running vert is only about 35... my standing vert is only about 30... if your one step vert is 35, you'd be able to dunk running... not just touch the rim... i feel that you made up that number or the test is still too complicated for you to understand...
before I tore my knees up, I was an avid jumper at 13 years old. 5'6" 195-200 pounds with 5'11" wingspan and about a 7'5" standing reach. measured at a 28 or 29 inch running vertical while playing for the city rep team. The reason I can't jump anymore: I've had, and still have, size 7 feet and used to play small/power forward at around 200 pounds when I was 13 (the second heaviest guy on my team was 165 (he was 6'1" at the time). I could almost touch the 10 foot rim, maybe 2 or 3 inches away. I think that's pretty impressive for an ASIAN 13 year old at 5'6" 195. My small feet could not absorb shock very well so my knees took the stress. After a series of Knee problems over the next 2 seasons, I was forced to lose 35 pounds by my friggin intense Filipino coach. Now, even after the weight loss, still can only muster about 20 inches. Tape on a wall. Tape your reach and than jump as high as you can and stick the tape on the wall. Last time I did it I think I got like 26-28. It was a while ago, and I am about 5'8 and have not attempted dunking on 9'6 in a long time, though I guess it could happen. If you are 5'7, I am guessing you probably have about a 30" vert from your description. I determined this by looking at the reaches and vertical reaches of past draft prospects. There is none that fit you exactly, but I would guess if you had a 35" inch vert, at your height you would be able to dunk. I used to have ambitions of dunking, but I just do not think it was in my genes :( Best of luck Mike N Ike
