druneave3ParticipantWith the recent news that Houston will decline the option on Parsons, it leaves several questions as in what direction the Rockets will head next. He is obviously a valuable piece but how valuable with several other big contracts already on the roster?
Any idea as to what their plan is regarding this decision and him remaining with the team?
I don’t think Melo is going anywhere but that rumor has been there, pairing him with Harden and Howard to create the next big 3. Are they shooting for Melo?
Someone will throw big money at him, making it difficult for them to match. Finally trading Asik or Lin could potentially free up some space but how much is Chandler Parsons really worth? More than 10 million a year?
Is there a team out there that would offer him more money than Houston would/could consider matching?
Loul Deng would be a nice 3rd option with Harden/Howard. If you are going to pay Parsons more than 10 mil per, would you rather have Loul Deng?
Finally, concerning an Asik/Lin trade? What are their salaries worth in a trade? $15 or the $8 mil (or whatever that number is) that goes against their cap? That whole "poison pill" that really wasn’t a poison pill is still confusing to me.

Imoon ShoomportParticipantOne thing I don’t get is, if they picked up his option for next year (at less than a million a year), they wouldn’t have to worry about resigning him until Lin and Asik’s toxis deals are both off the table. Obviously, they did this with the aim of trading someone else and then resigning Parsons, even going into the tax, because he’s their own player.
Still, I wonder if it wouldn’t have been worth it to to let do whatever moves they want now (like Lin and Jones and picks for Millsap or something similar, idk), and only have to pay Parsons for 1 million this year, and worry about resigning him next year with the space that’ll come from Lin or Asik’s expiring, even if they have to outbid other teams in unrestricted free agency.

ConezdParticipantParsons is more valuable at this point than Deng would be. He’s a little older and has many more miles on his legs. They both bring similar games but I think parsons is more athletic and can shoot it a bit better. I’ve said before on this forum that if they don’t resign parsons it will be a decision they will regret. I think even if they moves Asik and Lin by some miracle and get Melo, I don’t think that it helps them at all in the playoffs. Adding more selfish offense in exchange for an awesome glue guy and team player in parsons, not to mention he is perfectly suited to be the 3rd scoring option on this team because he’s versatile and hits threes, is not going to make them better. I think their best bet short term and long term is to resign parsons and play out the year. CP25 and Terrence Jones will be much improved as well as Beverly. They’ll have a good team that will compete. I think they should let Asik/Lins contracts run out and if K. Love isn’t traded then they make a huge push for him next summer. If he’s gone by the all star break, they still will have the options to deal Asik/Lin for something useful or let their contracts run out and still have that cap relief next year.

ConezdParticipantI thought it was pretty obvious in my post that I was referring to Deng being older. Why the f*ck would I defend Parsons over Deng by saying he has more miles on his legs??? Like that’s a good thing.

negguaryParticipantMelo+Harden= no defense
In order to have a big three some sort of defense has to get played.
