Hornets #10 pick
Who you think they should take at #10 to bring along with Anthony Davis
Lot of different ways to go. Could easily go big and grab Leonard. If Lillard is there then they snatch him up, but I don't think he will be, but Marshall probably will be. Rivers is good choice as well. Since Ariza is gone I could see them getting Jones as well.
Kendall Marshall. He'd do wonders for Davis, Gordan, and especially Bellineli, putting them in prime position to score.
Jeremy Lamb is one of the best offensive prospects in the draft. He averaged 18-5-2 at UCONN. Pair the defensive threat in Davis with an offensive threat in Lamb, and they should develop well together. And if Gordon returned and could run the point, they'd have a nice core three players.
just because Gordon is 6-3 doesn't mean he could play the PG.
No one including Gordon wants Gordon running the point. He's a true 2 guard.
I think they go big again with Z or grab Marshall as Lillard will be gone by then.
IF they keep the pick, I see rivers first then Leonard. And I know this sounds crazy but drummond could actually fall to them if you study the big board and piece together reports and articles. I don't see it happening because of his trade value but its possible in a deep draft
I think they are going with a big man likely Zeller...Marshall would be a good pick here though.
Right now I have them taking Damian Lillard for 3 reasons, 1 his shooting. Last year they were known who played tough defensively but really didn't have much of an offensive presence when Eric Gordon wasn't in the game which turned out to be most of the season. They could really use someone who can shoot and take for point guard sending Jarret Jack to the bench, which brings me to my #2 reason, they need someone to take over at point since they traded CP3. Lillard will certainly not be the next CP3 but he may be the best player for the role. He already has the shooting down and might even have the passing down as well! No one knows how good of a passer he is because he could never really showcase it at Weber State. He also is a smart player with a high BBIQ, and is willing to and wants to get better. #3 is because I have him Lillard slipping in my draft due to Portland deciding to go with Drummond over him at 6 simply because of size and potential. Warriors won't take him because they already have Steph Curry and Lillard is very similar to him, Raptors could take him, but I think they already have the PG worked out with Calderon and Bayless who can come in at any time and dominate (proved that last year). Pistons won't take him because they just took Brandon Knight last year, so they wouldn't pick another PG unless they want to try a small backcourt similar to what the Warriors tried with Curry and Ellis(didn't work obviously and it probably won't work in Detroit if they choose him but I highly doubt they do. This leaves him slipping by default to 10, but it also works out really well for the Hornets too!!
P.S. I think I explained really well that I do not say Lillard will slip to 10 because I don't like him or because I don't think too highly of him, or because scouts don't think too highly of him but because the teams after Portland at 6 seem to be thinking of selecting a different player instead of Lillard. (Warriors SF, Raptors SF/SG, and Pistons PF/C. I actually am one of the biggest Damian Lillard supporters on this site and I wish him the best of luck in the NBA.
So I wouldn't take a SF. Got Davis so I wouldn't take a PF. Weak PG Draft, Lillard won't be avalible so I wouldn't reach that high for Marshall so no PG. That leaves 1. Leonard 2. Rivers (Jason Terry Role) 3. Zeller.
lilliard or marshall should help out davis,
marshall with his awesome court vision
and lilliard for his range
Lillard is the best pick. If not, they will take a 3. PJ3 is a good gamble there.
He has good court vision and is a good passer but he is not a good shooter and he is not a speedster who can get buy his man. It is not very often that pg who cant shoot remain a starting pg in the nba. When it does happen it is because the pg has the ability to beat his man of the dribble on a regular basis.
Any thoughts on bringing one of Davis's UK teamates Jones or Teague. I know they seem like reaches, but ignore that for a second. Teague as a PG has played with Davis unlike any other guard, so the two will have strong chemistry and will help Teague's development playing with a guy he knows and trust. Also Teague has the talent to be the best PG in the class, he has credintials a top recruit out of HS, accepted his role as a PG and sacrificed numbers at UK to make the team better, won a Natl title as a freshman PG with a bunch of other underclassmen that shows leadership.
I'm not big on Aminu, although he's still young, I don't like his ball handling and shooting, I think he's more of a bench player than starter. Jones is an ultra talented combo forward who has shown ability to dribble, attack the basket, and shoot, plus rebounds, blocks shots, can defend inside and outside.
just two guys I'm high on personally, wanted to hear.
is a pass ahead type PG. He isnt the quickest but with teammates that will run he wont need to be. He finds players that dont seem open but he times his passes very well. His shooting needs work yes, but with the right shooting coaches it will be better in time. The Hornet will have 3 other scoring options, so Marshall will only be asked to dish the ball. His defense is suspect too, but again, it will get better.
I just don't see Marshall being a big upgrade over Jarrett Jack who was their best player last year. At #10 I take BPA.
I would take leonard, then hope kevin murphy falls to them in the second round at 46 because he should make the nba and be a quality bench wing player. Then sign a point gaurd with upside and draft a SF next year and they are set.
I think Lillard would be the ideal pick for them, but he probably will go earlier. He would be a great fit next to Gordon, though, as both can play both with the ball or off it.
I think Tyler Zeller might be a good fit for them. He is a smart big who plays well within his role and knows his role. He can do a little bit of everything and I think he is a better shooter than he showed in college. He is a solid positional defender, and Davis' length and shot blocking could cover up his lack of those traits.
i think it's should be a PG, then you should ask yourself what kind of PG is better to attach for Anthony Davis, someone who will compensate for his not huge offensive production by being a scorer like Lillard or someone who will make his own offense to be a lot better like Marshall... i'll go with Marshall as it more safe bet in my mind to be a succeed.
Post trade, #10 is the toughest call in the lottery.
PF Anthony Davis
SG Eric Gordon
At the moment, they have nothing at C, nothing at SF, and Jarrett Jack (who's serviceable) at PG.
There are literally 10-15 guys who could be the pick.
I have the Raptors scooping up Lillard with the 8 pick, so I plugged in Terrence Ross to play the 3 for the departed Ariza. I think he'll be available. In the 2nd I have the Hornets rolling the dice with Machado. That 10 spot is the toughest pick to predict in my opinion.
Aminu is there at sf and I guess if they draft a 2 they could move Xavier Henry at the 3 spot as well.
I think they are going to take Austin Rivers. They may see if they can play both he and Gordon together or they could move Gordon with a sign and trade. I actually hope they keep Kaman on a 3 year deal. 3rd year team option.
Gordon can't play PG at all.
Gordon isn't a point guard, but down the stretch he has the ball damn near every possession. Either he scores or finds the open man.
I think he and Rivers can definitely play together offensively. It's defensively that'd be my concern. Rivers is 6' 5", but he doesn't play big.
Remember if they don't like what's at 10 they could trade down for houstons #14 and 16, or the Celtics #21,22. The Celtics will most likely do it so they can draft Austin Rivers
Why would the Hornets draft an SG like Rivers, Lamb, Waiters etc? They already have Gordon and Henry at that position.
Drafting a pass-first PG like Kendall Marshall would be great for the development of Davis.
I don't think this will happen but i hope they take a chance at tony wroten. I think he is gettign undervalued because he isn't the best in the workouts (esp shooting) , if we had a game with all the top prospects i think he would shine.
