People dont really know too much about hiim but add a couple more years to his life he would be in the GOAT talk4. Best Rap Song

Not a sell out, reps his city where he is actually from (unlike wale), raps about what he does and keeps it simple6. Best All-Time Rapper

Best young rapper. I honestly think these guys are bringing real hip hop back. Its a shame not all of these guys get exposure like wayne and drake. Sorry, I just don’t think they are good. Wayne grew up in the suburbs and Drake was on Degrassi. Sorry, don’t try to act gangsta if you aren’t. These guys rap about real life and don’t act like something they aren’t.

SmooveKRYPTParticipant1. Best rapper (current)
Eminem hands down. his flow is just unmatched, it’s on a different level from anyone. Kanye is the best ARTIST, but in terms of straight rap it’s no question Em.
2. Best album
Detox…lol.
I’m really torn between Illmatic and All Eyez on Me. Again, in terms of straight rap…I have to go with All Eyez on Me. Nas’ artistry & complexity on Illmatic was insane though. both CLASSICS!
3. Best deceased rapper
2pac…Made music that told you his story and wasn’t afraid to touch on any controversial topic. Always said what he felt and did it with more passion than anyone I’ve ever seen!
4. Best rap song
2pac- Changes & Thugz Mansion
5. J. Cole
ridiculous bars…
6. 2pac
hate him or love him, the man made a huge impact and some absolute classics.
I swear Nas finished 2nd in every category he was eligible for on my list…I wanted to give him at least one, but I couldn’t go against Pac in any of those.

The term "best" anything is totally subjective unless there’s strict criteria, so it’s all personal taste.

2.graduation- the only hip hop album i can think of where i can play and not skip a song.
3. notorious b.i.g.- pioneer of the brooklyn flow
4. hypnotize- one of the first rap songs i ever listened to.
5. j. cole- his flow is one of the coldest ive ever heard. he makes it seem so easy too.
6. imo, i think its jay z. he has been around a long time and he has maintained both his commercial appeal and his killer lyrics without a significant regression

JNixonParticipant1. Best Rapper (Current)
Right now it’s Kanye. He’s always been a spectacular producer with good but not great lyrics, but in a time where hip-hop isn’t great he is the best out right now. He’s improved his lyricism so much though, and his flow is much more receptive now. Even though he can be a bit weird with some of the things he tries.2. Best Album
-Illmatic (Nas)- Literally the best Hip-Hop album I’ve ever heard, and I don’t know if another album will ever reach that level. Plain and simple. Outstanding lyrics, strong production and the length was just right as well.3. Best Deceased Rapper
-2Pac- He was an innovator. He was never a really take-you-by-storm lyricist with a whirlwind of creative punchlines and whatnot, but he said powerful stuff so that it doesn’t matter much. His versatility in topics was so dynamic that he has to be the best rapper ever. No other rapper had his broad intellect.
4. Best Rap Song
-I Used to Love H.E.R. – Common- Talk about a VERY clever song. He flipped it so good. To me it’s the best song, but it has to be at least unquestionably the most creative song ever in hip-hop.
5. Best Young Rapper
-J. Cole- He has strong punchlines, an effortless flow, can rap consciously and playfully, and he has messages behind what he says. Wale has most of these same things, but his flow isn’t as sharp and he has some weaker songs.
6. Best All-Time Rapper

Kanye West has never had a single track better then any of immortal technique or 2pacs tracks. You guys are straight up brainwashed with your tatses of music being turned into a statement of popularity and fashion. Open up your minds and ears. From this thread I see that people are more interested in hearing about ways to fantasize about cars, chains, and girls then they are interested in learning about how we can help persivere the oncoming threat that is a one world government which is evidently the new age Nazi approach.

JNixonParticipantWiz Khalifa is a VERY average rapper. If you listen to his songs and don’t smoke, like me, his beats sound like something you can use to hypnotize someone with. His lyrics are average at best. He does have a few cool songs, but best current rapper? HELL no. Nothing about him says "best current rapper."

JNixonParticipantYeah I didn’t like Tupac all that much either at 1st. He didn’t really have the tricky delivery of a Jay-Z or the slick punchlines of Eminem, but he was so versatile and had such a broad range of subject matter that I just had to appreciate him a bunch. He legitimately could make ANY kind of rap song.

Im Your FatherParticipantHere’s the thing with 2pac, I kind of like his earlier stuff, when he was just talking about life in the ghetto and how to make things better. I don’t love it, but I respect it and I occasionally enjoy listening to it.
What I hate is his fake thug persona, and I know know a lot of people will kill me for saying this, but it’s true. The dude wasn’t even from the West Coast, he never went to jail until he started rapping. He started this whole ride or die shit, calling out everyone on the East Coast, and frankly I don’t think most of that music was very good. I know must people love it, but I just don’t see how Hit Em Up is a good song, or even a good diss track.
In my opinion he did not have the lyrical skill to make that style work. What made him great was the genuine emotion his early songs had and his social-consciousness, once he lost that, IMO he was pretty average. In terms of how clever he was, his word play, metaphors, etc., he is not an all time great. He was never going to spit fire like a Biggie, Jay-z, Nas, Rakim, etc. He needed that emotion and that genuineness.
I guess I am maybe a little hard on 2pac, and he is definitely an all time great, but I just think he belongs more in the 10-15 range of all time hip hop artists as opposed to being in the top 2.

Im Your FatherParticipantWhat I meant was it’s an OK song, but he doesn’t really say anything. He mostly calls biggie fat and says he had sex with his wife. And then just goes on a huge rant saying fuck you to all kinds of people. It’s fine, but it is nothing compared to No Vaseline, Ether, Takeover, etc.
Also, Mobb Deep actually had a very good response to Hit Em Up, although not many people listened to it.

JNixonParticipantTakeover was crazy. It literally ruined Mobb Deep’s entire career, and the style of music they made even changed after that song. They went from stickly hardcore music, to making almost pop-like songs.

Im Your FatherParticipantIt absolutely helped Nas’s career. He was floundering for sure. I Am wasn’t very good and Nastrodomous was appallingly bad. Jay-z dropped takeover and Nas responded with Ether, resurrecting his career. Stillmatic as a whole was a very good album, and God’s Son was very good too.
