MorseWillParticipantReports today show that Henson has signed a 4 year 44 million extension. This seems like a very reasonable value for both parts for his productivity. Last season Henson had averages per 36 min totals of 13.8 ppg on 56% shooting, 9.1 rpg, to go along with 4 blocks per 36 mins, and a PER of 18.18.
Conversely Tristan Thompson, who I like as a player, has turned down a deal for roughly 16 mil per season in hopes to get closer to 18 mil. To compare with Henson, TT’s per 36 min averages came in last season at 11.4 ppg, 10.8 rpg, with only 1 block per 36 and a PER of 15.68.
Now these numbers look comparable, and even favor Henson in my opinion. And while TT is an important part of the Cavs team that hopes to make a run for the championship this season, it seems like his 18 per year evaluation seems way too high.
I know Thompson’s a good locker room guy, and buddies with LBJ, but Would anybody on this forum see a better value in Thompson at 16-18 mil, than what the Bucks got in Henson at 11 mil?

BornaskulParticipantI agree with you
TT is undoubtedly a good player , but the money he is asking is something a second or maybe third best player on a team deserves(taking the increased cap in consideration) and if he is your second best player you won’t be a contender

JR RyderParticipantOnly reason why Tristan looked good during the Finals was because he was out rebouding a small ball front court (Warriors used Barnes and Green at PF during the series). They already have Kevin Love and Thompson’s contribution can easily be replaced, there are so many guys out there who can do what he does and pay much less.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantBut what about the Chicago series? He ran circles around Noah and gasol.

machu46ParticipantDid he? He was statistically worse basically across the board in the playoffs as compared to the regular season. The only difference is he was playing 37-40 minutes per game against Chicago and in the Finals. Per 36 minutes, Thompson averaged 9.5/10.7/1.2 compared to Henson averaging 12.5/11.3/2.4.
Not that these stats are the end-all-be-all, but I don’t think Thompson suddenly became a great player in the postseason. I think he suddenly played more. And Noah was a trainwreck all year. The Bucks were defending him with Jared Dudley with great success lol.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantThe major difference is that Thompson had a very strong postseason and showed how valuable his skill set can be in a playoff setting. Henson hasn’t had the opportunity to show that yet. Thompson is more proven at this point while henson is more potential. If Thompson hadn’t been so valuable in the postseason, no way Cleveland even considers giving him their initial 5 yr 80 mil offer, no matter how close he is with lebron.

JR RyderParticipantHenson is the better player. Shoots at higher percentage, more efficient, more athletic, and one of the best shot blockers in the league. If Henson was playing with Lebron he would look even much better.

PulseGlazerParticipantTT thought he was going to get paid because he has Lebron’s agent and they can’t replace him.
