The Miami Heat waived center Mickell Gladness on Tuesday before the 6 p.m., deadline for guaranteed roster spots.
Gladness made six appearances, averaging 0.3 points in 3.5 minutes a game. The move leaves the Heat with 14 on the active roster, perhaps freeing room to add a free agent. Miami has reportedly expressed interest in center Joel Przybilla.
Przybilla played in 36 games for the Portland Trail Blazers andCharlotte Bobcats last season, averaging 1.8 points and 4.0 rebounds. A former lottery pick in 2000, Przybilla has played for four teams in his career.
Heard that Joel was deciding between the Heat and the Bulls. Do not know if he puts either over the top, have relatively no idea how he has stayed in shape or the level of his conditioning. My guess is he will take some time to adjust. What I do know is, he is gigantic and has always been a solid rebounder.
If you needed a role guy off of the bench, he is definitely a step above Mickell Gladness (no offense). Plus, while Chicago already has Omer Asik, having another huge body and 6 fouls makes a lot of sense. Just think the Heat cutting Gladness may be a sign that Przybilla could be on the way.
