If yes, then the Dream Team.

Probably the DT anyway, but I want to see old school Larry teach Melo a few lessons in humility.

It’s certainly far more feasible than the team they have out there now doing it. Larry Bird’s career was basically done and Magic had already retired at that point so maybe. Granted everybody else other than Bird, Magic, and Laettner were in the prime of their careers. It would certainly be fun to watch.

Why is Andrew Bynum included? IF we’re adding who "should" be, then let’s take off Christian Laettner and replace him with Shaquille O’Neal.

The Dream Team still has a big advantage in the front court and a prime Michael Jordan would be the best player in this game.

    I say they’d win in 6.

If you can run a healthy 2012 team then my dream team will be

    PG Magic, Stockton,
    SG Jordan, Drexler
    SF Bird, Pippen, Mullin
    PF Barkely, Malone
    C Hakeem(on 96 team), Shaq, Ewing

both beat this years "healthy" Team USA.

Bynum has refused all invites to try out for Team USA and select teams.

Like my man Indiana said above, if we are debating who "should" have been in the game, then Shaq definitely should have made it in over Christian Laettner, and that would add even more depth to an already stacked frontcourt for the dream team.  To me, it’s not even close.  I admit that the Team USA squad of this year has more athleticism, but in reality that’s all they have.  The Dream Team had Hall of Famers, Champions, and the greatest basketball player and competitor of all time, Michael Jordan.

To me, it doesn’t matter.  You throw MJ on your team and you win.  That’s it, case is closed.  Now, if you compare these teams to each other whenever every player was in their prime, I’d go with a 4 game sweep by the Dream Team.

In my opinion, people nowadays are getting too caught up in the hype of today’s players.  Kobe Bryant and LeBron James to me are the only ones who could do anything major against the dream team.  They just had WAY too much talent on that roster, and there is no doubt in my mind that the Dream Team would kick the hell out of Team USA of 2012.

Bird is done by 92 as an elite player, so no I don’t think it is fare to prettend it is 1986. But Magic was still elite in 92 and he would have been too big for CP3, Westbrook or even Kobe to guard easily. Assuming we allow Stockton to be fully recovered from his leg injury, then Stockton is the starting PG anyway.

MJ eats up Kobe because he is old and Harden because he is inexperienced at this level of balling (see the finals).

Barkely and Malone are two HOFers and were in their prime in 92. Big advantage there unless you match them agaisnt Lebron at the 4, then only a slight edge to 2012.

Don’t you dare take David Robinson and his FIVE blocks per game off the team and don’t you dare not start him. MJ and Pippen freelancing on defensive with one of the best shot blockers of all time backing them up!!! Forget about it. I go with Dream Team. It is a blow out if US2012 plays Melo and/or Kobe. Neither can get to the rim against the defense of MJ and Pippen and long twos shot at 40% are not going to cut it at this level of ball.  Close game if 2012 sticks mainly with Durrant and Lebron.

The games would be so much fun to watch..If they had played each other..

The Dream Team were so much better at moving the ball, could play at any Tempo, every player could hit the outside shot, and alot of them were good defenders, even Magic & Bird were great at playing the passing lanes……

TEAM USA does too much 1 on 1 and sometimes struggles in halfcourt….Thats 1 of the reasons why teams dont fear them as much and some believe if they can keep them out of transition, they have a slight chance to beat them…

And the most important 2 things that gives the Dream Team the edge is

1.Collectively as a group, Magic,Bird,Pippen,Mullin,Stockton,Barkley and the other DREAM TEAMERS ..Had superior basketball minds to this TEAM USA…

2.TEAM USA couldnt deal with the DREAM TEAM’S Size…

from this Team USA could even make the Dream Team?

Lebron  makes it over Laettner (*rolls eyes).

    Durant might get Mullin’s spot (Mullin in ’91-’92 NBA season – 25.6p 5.6r 3.5a 2.1s 53-37-83%).

    Kobe at 33 over Drexler (25p 6.6r 6.7a 1.8s 47-34-79%)? It’s a tossup to me. Wade too.

DRose or Chris Paul over Stockton? Probably not.

Howard won’t beat out Robinson or Ewing for a spot.

If we’re playing magically healthy with everyone then Bird plays a lot more for the Dream Team, and no one is taking his spot.

So there are between one and three players from this team that could even make the Dream Team. How are you going to beat a team that you aren’t good enough to make?

Honestly I’m taking 96 over 2012. Even though 96 and 92 had quiet a few of the same players, that would be interesting.
