    http://welcometothebigs.net/2015/03/14/hawks-sign-former-first-rounder-austin-daye/

So the Hawks announced that they wouldn’t bring back Jarell Eddie on a second 10-day (no surprise there) but they are going to sign Austin Daye to a 10-day to fill that final roster spot.  I think that given the Hawks system, Daye’s familiarity with it as well as his familiarity with Coach Bud, this is a good move and probably the best player available at this point for the Hawks to sign heading into the playoffs.

Obviously he won’t play huge minutes but he gives them some depth in cast Thabo doesn’t recover completely from his injury.

    What do you guys think?

I’ve always thought Austin Daye was talented.

He gets another shot to prove himself.

     I guess I’d vote "meh"

I don’t think Daye will impact the Hawks enough to warrant the title of a good signing, but I don’t think he’ll do anything to make himself a detriment to the team.

He’s one of those guys who’s good enough to produce if he gets in the game, but not good enough to be the best player at his position on any NBA team. It’s a rough place to be in; however, he’ll probably be a guy who can always make his case for making an NBA roster.

Atlanta really is doing everything the San Antonio Spurs way. Even to the point of making the same mistakes.

How exactly did the Spurs make a mistake by having Austin Daye on their roster exactly?  He was an end of the bench player who did not kill the team or its chemistry in any way, shape, or form.  They won a championship with him on the roster, so he obviously didn’t hurt the Spurs too bad…

As far as the signing, as many have already said – it was a move to just add depth with an injury.  He knows the system better than any other player that they could have potentially signed.  It makes sense, and isn’t a move that is really worth looking into too much in my personal opinion.

Just 10 day depth. Not really a move that needs to be judged.

A good move for Atlanta.  Tall and versatile and can play a few spots.  Won a title in the NBA, that has to be useful to have someone around the team who has done that, not that he did anything to win for the Spurs.

It gives them another player similar to Payne who they traded, so some useful depth and probably for them just someone to use in practice.

Yeah exactly he can block shots he has game offensively and is Versatile because of his size and skill set. Plus he has fresh legs so he may benefit the team as being a guy to use in practice. His problem was never his skills its always his lack of motor and drive thats stopped him from being successful in the league

If the Spurs have made a lot of mistakes, I’d dread to know how many titles they would have won if they made the right moves!

Daye had a lot of talent, has never really made a name for himself in the NBA but has hung around the league for 6 seasons, won a title, is still only 26 years old. So will probably still get looked at by a few teams over the next few years. He’ll do no great harm or great advantage to the Hawks I feel. They may well give him a second 10 day deal to help with the run in but I don’t see him making their play off roster and I think they may release him after the second 10 day spell unless they want him to fill in if they rest starters down the stretch to the play offs.

If Austin was released, I could see another team givin g him a 10 day deal to helpo rest players for the play offs.

I can like it.  He is a tall kid with range.  Shooters have a spot in the league and he should fit in with what they do.  He has also played for the Spurs and Grizzlies, two of the legit Western contenders.

might be too much of a finesse guy on a team that might need more toughness.  The Hawks maybe should have gone after a backup shot blocker or another forward to throw at LeBron but it’s still a solid pick up.
