Toronto has trade John Salmons to Atlanta for Lou Williams and Bebe Nugiera

I’m pretty suprised that Atlanta gave up Nugiera that easily. They must of really wanted that cap space… Atlanta must think they have a serious shot at Lebron or Melo.

Sweet Lou can provide instant offense off the bench…  I could see Toronto being ok with just Vasquez as their starting PG if Lowery doesn’t come back…

I think after taking Payne this year, Atlanta thought Bebe wasn’t going to get any minutes…  Why trade Lou and Bebe for John Salmons?  I have no clue…  Isn’t a great idea to me…  John is making $7 Mill this year which is more than Bebe and Lou’s contract combined…

Wow Atlanta is so inept. They just wasted the 16th pick of the 2013 draft. They are doing this trade because if they cut Salmons he will only count for 1 mil on the cap, but really you are only saving 4.4 mil of cap room and getting rid of your 6th man who happens to be a hometown guy in Lou Williams, and your first round pick who was supposed to potentially be the future center. I mean who do they think will come to Atlanta? Making this move really doesn’t make sense to me unless they think somehow that Melo will go there. Wouldn’t surprise me if they get into these Hayward max talks. More likely one of Stephenson, Deng, Parsons, or Ariza will end up in Atlanta by being overpaid.

Nogueira had been working out with them all summer with a few of bringing him over for the upcoming season. Must not have impressed much!

Even if he wasn’t able to pick up another 1st rounder from Griz, he ended up getting something possibly better in Williams / Nogueira

    Definitely another Masai steal.

The Danny Ferry effect.  Maybe he is planning on overpaying some middling players like Hayward, Bledsoe, Monroe, Parsons.  All solid players still with some potential but also the types of guys that a team like Atlanta has to greatly overpay… To maybe persuade their current teams from not matching.

That’s the only reason I could think of them to do this deal.

It seems like a bad trade but Lou is inefficient and Bebe wasn’t going to get minutes in Atlanta. I don’t know. I want to see how it works out. I did like Bebe as a prospect but let’s see how it plays out.

Probably after drafting Tavares in the second round this year made Bebe available because they still got Pero Antic to back up Horford and Payne could slide over to the 5 if need be so the drafting of Payne and Tavares most likely made and put Bebe on the block.

Do you ever realize some of the stupid stuff you say? They plan on cutting Salmons immediately in order to clear cap space…This trade was a pure salary dump. Lou Williams came off a really bad year and Nogueira evidently was replaceable. Toronto wanted something in exchange for giving up that non-guaranteed contract of Salmons

Ferry deserves the benefit of the doubt. He’s watched Bebe overseas plenty of times and he’s been here in Atlanta working with the team. Ferry has a better idea of Bebe’s talents and potential than Toronto and we do. Keep in mind, he suffered from serious knee tendinitis this season. As for Lou, sad to see him go, but you gotta risk taking a step back to move forward.

As for free agents, it’s a pipe dream but we are that much closer to having LeBron/Mello type money. As for something more attainable, we have money to pursue both Parsons and Hayward. Both will fit perfectly in coach Bud’s system. I’m just speculating here, but Ferry isn’t going to give away Lou and Bebe for the hell of it without having a valid reason. He cannot talk to free agents, but he can talk to Horford or Milsap, and they can talk to free agents. There’s a reason Ferry did this trade and it’s the same reason he went big in the draft. I’m excited to see……And I’m crossing my fingers that I’m right.

Thats the thing about the acquire assets type of rebuild, Nogueira was an expendable asset at this point and they used him to free up cap room. I think his knees may play a big role in this although I also believe Bebe is a high talent and has great role player potential for a rare NBA role. Top of the line help defense is hard to come by.

Bebe showed great pick and roll defence, transition play, offensive rebounding, pick and roll and help defence potential. He was the best rebounder, and shot blocker on his team per 36-min and was the most effiecient scoring mostly on tip ins, dunks, and layups. He needs to improve his defensive rebounding, desperately needs to add at least 15 pounds of muscle and it would be nice to see him develop a consistant jumper but thats asking for alot.

Nogueiras biggest issue is his mentality. He has Toy Hibbert type moments. He fades in and out of games at the worst moments.

With that being said Im happy with the deal. Williams is an offensive sparkplug and albeit a streaky shooter Toronto would have loved his scoring abillity in place of Salmons against Brooklyn. Bebe not only adresses an issue on Toronto (help defence) but is another young Brazilian prospect who is much further along then Bruno with his english speaking and professionalism.

I don’t mind the trade in terms of what we gave up. Lou Will didnt have a big role on the team last year and Nogueira I don’t think is anything special. What I don’t like is we wasted a first round pick last year. Teams like the hawks can’t afford to miss on draft picks. Since ferry has been here his first round picks have been John Jenkins who hasn’t done anything. Schroeder who lost the back up pg job to Mack last year. Nogueira who they obviously didn’t think very highly of, and Payne who is still to be determined. His best pick so far is Mike Scott which is not saying much. So far the only thing he has showed he is good at is clearing cap space. I still am holding out hope on Schroeder. But having 2 picks back to back last year in the early non lottery you have to come out of that with something! If they didn’t like any of the options they could of packaged them and moved up a little bit. Greak Freak went 1 pick before the hawks selection. Hindsight is  20/20 but still gotta do better in the draft. My favorite thing he has done do far is hire coach Bud, really like him. Anyways, hope Ferry has a plan…. Go Hawks!

I think they are approx $20mill under the cap. I dont think they could land a star like lebron but they could get some good players for that $20 mill.

Some sf/centre combination of Deng/Parsons/Hayward and Monroe/Gortat/Hawes could very well get them into the second round of the playoffs

Maybe throw some money at Stephenson at SG.

The hawks have done quite well not to overspend on any one player.  Horford at $12, Teague at $8, Milsap at $9.5mill

It would be interesting and very possible to see Toronto and Atlanta meet in the playoffs at seeds 3 and 6, or 4 and 5.

Although I think Atlanta is the last place Lebron would go, that would be a pretty damn good team with him. I know anybody looks pretty damn good with Lebron, but strictly personnel wise they have more to offer than Miami.

Atlanta was ranked the worst fan base of all pro sports cities…That market is simply not exciting…No superstar wants to play for ATL (remember D12 spurning his hometown to go to a basketball-friendly market?) – I like the Hawks a lot but they’re going to have to try to compete with high end role players – not superstars

Sixers are making sure they have the best shot at the number one pick next year, they don’t want to add Vet talent that can get them wins.  The draft proved that, they don’t want to win next year.  Not saying its a bad idea, but that’s what they plan on doing.  I wouldn’t expect any good Vet players being signed or traded for.
