Straight to the point here, I just find out the Hawks not only hold the right to swap picks with the Nets for 2014, BUT also for 2015.  This was news to me. I cringe at each and every Nets victory, and celebrated Brook Lopez’s injury…I’m not that terrible a person. But next year’s pick could be even better. Pierce is a Fa, and I strongly doubt he re-signs in Brooklyn. I think he’ll go home to a LA team, or sign with Boston to retire. KG imo would and should retire, which he considered last season. Take them off the books, and Brooklyn is still 20 million over cap and unable to add any pieces. Unless Deron and Brook plays lights out next year, and stay healthy, this could be a huge pick for the Hawks. Hawks should begin selling Danny Ferry suit jerseys.

Hawks are definitely in a good position for the future.  Good PG in Teague, with a potential future replacement in Schroeder, nice role players, a good duo of big men, some decent youth, and a good cap situation – the only players under contract for the 2015-2016 season are all solid values on their contracts.  If they can get an impact wing in the draft and maybe get a couple other solid value picks, they could continue to be a perennial playoff contender for the forseeable future.

Every Nets win makes me sad. I want them them to miss the playoffs so badly so we have a chance at a nice lottery pick, but the Eastern conference is just terrible. The Nets picks could be really valuable, but they have to miss the playoffs. Moving from 20th to 15th would be nice and all, but it isn’t anywhere like moving 20th to 6th. They were 10-21 and then somehow went on a 5 game winning steak to climb all the way up to 15-21 before losing against the Raptors on Saturday so Jason Kidd might actually be figuring things out in Brooklyn which isn’t a good sign for us Hawk fans.

I think the Hawks are still in position to capitalize a lottery pick from the Nets. Their schedule the rest of the way is NOT veteran friendly. Take away the fact that they had a Double OT game against the Heat last week, then had to travel all the way to London to play a game with a long flight back. They have FIVE back to back games leading up to the All-Star Break. I hope they cherish their rest, because they come out of the All-Star Break on a 5 game west coast road trip against UTA, GS, LAL, POR, and DEN.

I don’t discredit that Brooklyn has played much better and with way more effort, but the dog days could come early to this veteran team.

The Hawks have to get in the top 3-5 of this draft to get the franchise guy they’ve needed since ‘Nique got traded. Unfortunately, I don’t think Brooklyn is bad enough to get that high in the draft, especially when the East is so terrible. I was already penciling Jabari Parker into the starting lineup for the ’14-’15 season when Brooklyn went on that winning streak. Yet another let down. Life as a Hawks fan.

There’s a lot to like about the Hawks. Obviously you have Horford. Teague has pleasantly surprised me by making big strides this year, and I still love Schroder’s potential. I think Mike Scott is a legit starting-caliber power forward. The dude gets buckets. Millsap’s expiring contract is going to be a huge asset next year. And don’t forget about Lucas Nogueira Mike Muscala. I loved Muscala going into the draft; I actually liked him a lot more than Nogueira. I think they’ll bring one or both of them over next year with Brand and Ayon hitting free agency. They’re in desperate need of a great wing player. They have tons of cap space this summer to go get one. They might get lucky with the Nets’ pick this year or next year. They also can use Millsap’s contract to get more picks. They’re young and I like the direction they’re headed in.

Fyi update on Nogueira, dude has a case of severe tendinitis in his knees. I wish the best for him.

They’re doing a great job both on and off the court. Many expected them to start losing a lot of games and tanking after Horford’s injury, but they’re still there, in a good position to have court advantage in the first round of the playoffs and I’m pretty sure they’re going to make the playoffs. Horford is a very good player, he has one of the very best deals in the league, but this team is really well rounded, well coached and just solid, great chemistry. Budenholzer is doing a great job creating a system, they do a lot of spursian stuff, they have very smart players, so even if they lack outstanding talent they execute really well and just usually do the right thing.

They also have lot of flexibility (how they manage to sign Millsap with such a great contract is beyond me), extra-picks, a core of solid players and they all look like high character guys. If Budenholzer can bring from San Antonio not only the X’s and O’s but also the ability to develop players they’re gonna be even better, because Teague, Schroeder, but also Nogueira and Muscala (who’s playing really well in Spain) are all young and interesting.

I thought John Jenkins would develop into a solid player. I watched Jenkins, Taylor and Ezeli in college.

Taylor has had some good pro moments but I really thought Jenkins would be better than Taylor. I know Jenkins has some back problems and spent some time in the d-league. I hope the Hawks give him some minutes.

If they’re committing to Teague than Schroeder is a nice pick-up for a rebuilding team or a team who needs a young PG to groom.

As great as Milsap is, getting a real C to play with Horford is probably their ideal combo.

As a C’s fan I want those 2 picks as close together as possible. And I’m hoping it doesn’t cost the C’s someone like Cauley-Stein who they need since the Olynyk pick was a bad one from the start (I wanted Giannis or Schroeder… 🙁 )
