Thoughts on what the hawks did in the draft?

As a hawks fan I was pretty disappointed with their draft. I think Ferry played it really safe and pretty much picked the one guy in the draft who was exactly as advertised. Jenkins is going to be a good back up 2 guard who hits 40% from 3 for the next 10 years.

Hawks are stuck in limbo, too good to get a lottery pick, yet not good enough to win a title, so in the draft they really needed to either find a gem player who would come in and push them to championship level, or trade players away for draft picks to start to rebuild.

I dont think Jenkins will be that player to put us over the top. He’s going to come in and essentially do what Willie Green did this year.

It was rumored we were going to trade Josh Smith to Houston for the picks that ended up being Jeremy Lamb and Royce White, which would have at least been an attempt to get better, but we didn’t.

We also drafted Mike Scott late second round, but I don’t think he will make the team unless we trade Smith.

All in all, safe draft, not going to make us any better. If anything it will prolong our mediocrity.

It was a solid draft. The Hawks took a San Antonio approach, draft role players who can contribute over potential busts. Sure the upside on these two is lower than a Perry Jones, but both will probably have a role on this team.

Jenkins will be able to be a shooting specialist, but I wouldve liked them to get PJ3 with Josh Smith likely to be gone in either the short or long term. But Jenkins will be able to contribute immediately hopefully. He might be the best shooter on the team already. Mike Scott isnt gonna be more than a 2nd or 3rd PF at best though. He doesnt alleviate the lack of height, and isnt more than average at any aspect of the game

The drafting Of Jenkins filled a need although I think the hawks reached a bit. We needed a big  or should I say center badly. With the drafting of Scott I wonder how seriously Of an offer the hawks will make to Ivan Johnson who was very effective in the role that he played last year. We still need a back up point and essentially have approximately 6.5 million to fill out the bench. Do you trade josh who did settle for too many jumpers but was far and above the best player last year. Do you continue to play hour ford at the five. Does joe rebound from his worst showing in the playoffs to date.
