Lotto StudParticipantThis time last year almost EVERYONE on this forum loved Evan Turner & was raving about him. Why is it now that almost EVERYONE on this forum has hate for him & his play as of now in his rookie year. Keyword ROOKIE. Things will get better for him once he find his role next year. Iggy is a main factor for his lack of production as a rookie. I would like to know what kind of numbers were you all expecting him to have this year? Everyone already knew what the roster was already going to look like when it came to Philly’s backcourt & starters.

The8thDeadlySinParticipantI dont hate him, I just hate his situation.. If he was in Iggy’s place, and Iggy was gone, his numbers would be something like 15 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds.. He would be a triple double threat.. As of now, he doesnt fit with this team.

GlenTaylorSucksParticipantRealistically, I expected like 9, 3, and 3 from him; he ended up with 7, 4, 2. At times, he’s looked very good, and at other times, he’s looked like garbage. Inconsistency is not unexpected from a rookie. It’ll be good for him to play under Iggy- he can teach him a bit about the game. He and Holiday will be a very good back court pair someday.

Lotto StudParticipantMe personally I would rather have Evan running the 1 ala Penny & Jrue playing off the ball which he did at UCLA although he was always considered not playing his natural position. Evan needs the ball in his hands to be just as effective as Jrue IMO. It’s not like he can’t create for others, Evan is not a selfish player at all.

bigblackNbeautifulParticipantWasnt buying the whole next brandon roy but I did pick him as my ROY. I thought 17ppg 6apg 5rpg and a steal a game while exploding for a triple dub here and there. I guess I had all my marbles in the wrong bag, but o well i guess that is why they play the games. He is still a solid role player for a playoff team backing up the 1,2,3 and doing a pretty solid job at all three. He may never be an all pro(it is to early to tell for sure) but I feel he will be a very good pro.

KayjayParticipantI was high on his game a lot, still am too. I don’t think everyone hates him, I think some people are just dissapointed him. Which I don’t know why, you have to give some players time to develop. Some produce fast results, usually the ones that are picked high. I think thats what frustrated many was the fact he was taken so high but hasn’t produced enough results. But thats the gamble you go on with top prospects. Tch, the NFL is worse. The chance of drafting a quarterback bust in the first round is rediculously high. Not in anyway shape or form is Evan Turner a bust though. He’s just like a jack of all trades, he does so many things well, they will just have to find the things he does that they need from him more to fit the rest of the team better. Patience is a virtue.
IE: Lemarcus Aldridge, Kevin Love, hell…I remember when Kobe couldn’t shoot to save his life. Things take time. Eventually with the right coaching, work ethic and hard work a player evolves into a complete player.
Hell…even Lebron James is still improving every year.

sheltwon3ParticipantI think if Turner went to Minny, we could be comparing him more to the next Brandon Roy except his shot needs work. I am hoping he gets traded to a team that can really use him. If Philly keeps Holiday and Iggy, Turner really has no fit.
I am hoping he and Mayo get moved because they are both starters talent wise who have to play a bench role.

OhCanada-ParticipantJust to be fair we sort of saw signs of him not having an extremely productive rookie year in the summer league and training camp where he also struggled, but I also believe he was put on a team that does not suit his strengths. Although dont say he doesnt fit in on that team, he fits in just not as a star. He has been a very good role player for Philadelphia this year. I think he will get better and adjusty to this new role, but to say he will be an Allstar calibur talent on the 76ers may be a stretch.

sheltwon3ParticipantIt may actually be actually be a benifit that this draft is weak in shooting guards with a lot of young shooting guard in trade bait situations.

kanyedabestParticipantGuys ima be honest…. I thought ET was gonna be a lock for ROY ( hadnt taken in2 consideration Blake Griffin) Alot of you pointed out and said ya well he lacks the foot speed and the knockdown J to be a really good 2 guard. But I dismissed it and thought he would be a triple double threat most games.
Then the summer league came and the writing was on the wall for me. My buddy would call and say hey man did u see ET he had a HUGE game with 4 points. Turner was terrible in the summer league.
He struggled all season, albeit his is still young and still a rookie but to say he will be a franchise player and a go to guy is pretty far-fetched at this point.
End of story is I ran my mouth hard about him and so far have been dead wrong…. but he still has a decade or so to prove me right.

xavier328ParticipantStill think Philly should’ve took D. Cousins..i know he has problems but the guy can ball.

sheltwon3ParticipantMost of the rookies this year struggle. A lot of people got real excited about Jordan Crawford’s play but he did so when he got minutes. Turner played well with minutes too. It is hard for a rookie to put up number without minutes. What kind of stats do you think Wall would have put up if he played behind Chris Paul, Deron Williams, or Derick Rose.
Philly made a terrible pick and Turner suffered for it. It actually goes to show you how versatile Turner is because he found ways to be productive in a system that did not play to his strengths.

Meditated StatesParticipantEven Greg Monroe would have been. Turner can be very solid if he improves the J. I really do not believe he will ever be blowing past 1 line defenders like he did in college. He does not have that kind of quickness or foot speed. Not to say he can’t increase those things in the off season, but I think he is more of a role player. If he turns himself into a knockdown very consistent shooter though I do see him being more effective. He will be a better player next year I don’t doubt that. How much better is the ?

NashyMingParticipantI am surprised at how bad he played this year. He definitely needs to work on his shot and improve his shooting. Also, he’s a bad fit with Iggy. I always thought the 76ers was crazy not to take DeMarcus Cousins when he was argueably the best talent and they have a big hole at the 5. When the 76ers took Turner, I thought they would trade away Iggy for a rebuild, but instead, they turn into a playoff team and Turner hasn’t done much.
I still think Turner can turn into a good player eventually. He got the work ethic and talent to be successful, but it would probably take him some time if he’s still playing behind Iggy.

thparadoxParticipantIt’s only been one year… give him some time.
If he was in John Wall’s situation, you don’t think he would have performed fairly well?
There are lots of good players who don’t have amazing rookie seasons. He’ll get a lot better with experience.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantI wasn’t raving about him..I said Cousins was the 2nd best rookie prospect and Turner was the 3rd best..I was expecting the 76’ers to take Cousins becuz Turner and Iggy’s game were similar…But with all the media saying Cousins was lazy ,a trouble maker and they shouldnt waste that 2nd pick on him..I guess that forced them to take Turner, who scouts said was the most nba ready player…

TheLastWordParticipantHe is just one of those players that need the ball in his hands to be effective. You are wasting his talent to try and use him as just a spot up shooter. With Iggy on the team who is ball dominant himself it wasn’t the smartest pick for Philly, Cousins or Favors would have been much, much better. At some point either Iggy or Turner will have to be traded, their skillsets are just too redundant.
