valentine3-16 FG, 0-6 3PT, 1-3 FT, 7 points versus Virgina.
This is not the first time Barnes has had a horrible shooting game. This probably wont be the last.
As of right now, I would be very worried about his ability to create offense for himself, if he cant get his outside shot going. His handles are marginal and ability to drive and finish has yet to be seen in college.
He really needs to work on the post up game. I doubt many SFs in college would be able to guard him on the post.
I think people really need to reevaluate his pro potential. To me, he seems like he is closer to being a finished product, than a player that is still improving.

Chilbert arenasParticipantI’ve always thought he is no more than a third scoring option in the league, but he has room to improve.

Future_Scoutyup, his lack for creating his own shot was evident. he does that "1-2 step, shot", most of the times ends up having to shoot OVER the defense, which he is able to pull off in college but its questionable for the nba. he got a great catch n shoot shooter tho and already has the touch for shooting off the dribble, he’s just having trouble creating the space. all in all thats why lamb #3 for me.

Mr. 19134ParticipantC’Mon guys Harrison Barnes b4 this game was shooting a scorching 45% from 3 so don’t act like after one game he can’t shoot or score. Just like how after one game Jon Oats was tryna say Marshall can shoot.
Well look at Marshalls numbers he went back to his usual self with 1 point, 0-6 FG n 0-2 from 3, only 6 assists which is rare for him.
Notice you won’t see a JonOats post today.

Chilbert arenasParticipantI didn’t even watch the game, my opinion has always been that he’s best served as a third option on the next level, that’s not that much of an insult.

Johnny ChillHe can shoot. He has great form on his shot and a nice 1 dribble or 2 dribble pull up.
My evaluation of him is when his shot isnt falling? He cant create off the dribble or go one on one very well.
That’s what seprated great players from good players, their ability to create either for themselve or others.

BiggysmallsParticipantI think the guy is entitled to a bad game every once in a while. For every 3 of 15 game where hes gonna be a bust, he has a 10 of 15 game and he’s the next Kobe. Virginia does this to alot of people and one game does not outweigh a fantastic season where he HAS shown steady improvement. The guy continues to improve everything people want him to improve. I will take a guy with a bit less athletic upside who continues progressing and improving his game, over an uber athletic freak who wows you when it doesnt matter.

rickybobbyParticipantIm a huge tarheel fan and If you watch closely Barnes looks to lack alot of confidence in his dribbling and driving game. When he makes a move he does it slow with no anticipation of really getting to the rim. Rather he would take a 1-2 step move and pull up , which he does amazing. He’s a great talent but i would like to see him drive more sometimes (he’s improved in this area alot from last year, but he still could do better) also he needs to post up more cause at 6’8 220-225 lbs he should be killing college small forwards and guards.
He needs to take a page out of Marshalls book and drive with power and creativity instead of trying to use speed and iso moves. All i think he needs is one summer or offseason of just really focusing on his handle and post game and he would be unstoppable.
Because virually every other part of his game is there. As for potential and draft stock he’s definetly top 5 pick with good but not great potential to become a very special pro. Because he has yet to grasp the real feel of being a perimeter player other than his great shooting ability.

Future_Scouti need your opinions on tyler zeller post game, which might be the best in ncaa right now. his hook shots are damn near unstoppable at college level if their falling. my thing is, with that skinny frame. he’ll struggle getting position in the post like that in the nba. but, what if he puts on weight, could he develop the same offensive post game in the nba? where he can just be fed on the DL and turn right around for a quick hook shot…

r377ParticipantWhy is it you get +7 pts for this post yet when i say he is not going to be a 20ppg NBA all-star i get negged ?
I agree with you his handle and driving ability worries me – ive been saying it since he was in high school as he has yet to prove me wrong…

mrhancocParticipantI have to be honest, idk if UNC was the best basketball system for Barnes even though UNC’s system does put him in a ok position to be a good player, so this is how I see things play out most of the time
-Marshall brings the ball up the floor – passes to the other wing player or big man at the top up the key – then the ball is looked to be passed into the post –
"But that is the name of UNC’s half court game", for the most part that is how things typically go at UNC, which leave Barnes being like a 3rd option by routine. Yes, Barnes also needs to be more aggresive when Marshall is not on the floor and be get better playing off the ball and looking to score more often, I think it would make UNC a better team but now is not the time to experiment being its so close to NCAA tourny time….and for the most part he always seems to show up for the better teams
Im not saying Barnes ain’t putting the #’s up, he is, I just thing that they could be even better, also at attacking the basket and more reconizable as an impact player (he kills teams quietly, but as fans we like to see explosive highligts from top players), all in all I just don’t thing he makes the most of his oppurtunities in thru out the game, – not to mention he playing on the same team with some soon to be NBA players-

akhan786ParticipantHarrison Barnes is only a 16-point a game scorer on 38% FG shooting and 34% from three against Top 25 teams…
I feel like people have a higher opinion of Barnes based on what he does against teams outside of the top 50 in the RPI. He puts up big numbers against teams that don’t have an tall athletic SF to guard him. The problem is every single team in the NBA has one of them.

nbafan7898ParticipantHe missed a lot of chippies today real close to the basket that normally fall for him. He just had an off night. I still think that he may be the best player from the draft, it all depends on him and the work he puts in to polish his game off the dribble.

rickybobbyParticipantEveryone wants Barnes to be more aggressive and take more shots but UNC offense usually doesnt start or end with him. The first option is to get the ball downlow to Zeller or Henson espically in half court sets. Even when Barnes has the ball on the wing his first instinct is to look for one of the bigs. Or he gets it late and has to try and create for himself which he’s not particular good at yet.
To me there are 3 reason Barnes doesnt dominate like he should
1. UNC offense is ran through the Post. Zeller and Henson gets first dibs on alot of possesions.
2. Harrison doesn’t drive or post up alot he could get alot more easier baskets or free throw atempts (because he lacks confindent in dribbling ability)
3. Barnes doesn’t have the passion or hunger to be "THAT GUY" for the entire game yet, but to his credit he’s that guy when it matters in crunch time , or when the team needs a play. But he usually just go with the flow and let the game come to him.
Once he gets that mindset of im the best player and the offense should go throught me like last year in the ACC and NCAA tournaments no one in college basketball can hold him.

Kinda odd how similar that is too Joe Johnsons game. I think Barnes will be a cross between Johnson and Deng which is probally still worth a Top 5 pick in this draft. 1 to 8 is very close in this draft, Davis is the clear cut #1 and Drummond has the clear cut most potential. Other then that theres about 6 prospects who could go in the Top 3 with those two.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantIf Player X Poster 1 likes has a great game, "clear sign on Player X is going to be a stud in the NBA. He is the truth. How can anyone argue him being a Top Blank pick."
If Player X Poster 1 dislikes has a bad game, "clear sign on Player X is a bum with flaws throughout his game, and teams should be skeptical of using a top Blank pick on him."
One game is just one game.
