Crossova21ParticipantDid the Pacers see something everyone else didn’t? Dude has 40 points and 9 rebounds in two summer league games…including 3 threes. He probably will never be a star but next to Granger he could be the energy player the Pacers need. BTW Hibbert is looking like a starting center.

IndianaBasketballParticipantYea, I was really critical of the pick, but SO FAR Hansbrough looks great. Keep in mind, it’s only summer league though. I think he has a chance.

sheltwon3ParticipantI was critical of the pick. I figure he would be a hustle player and solid but I will say I am impressed. After watching him before the draft, I saw him as a Nick Collison type player. He will be solid and productive for some team but he will not be a star. I will say early on I was wondering about him because I did not want him to be another one of those hyped college stars but I think because people started doubted him, he will not become a Morrison.

BasketballGuru24ParticipantThis Guy Deserves More credit then We Gave Him for…..He Probably Has Enough Heart to Become A Double Double Guy in The League

AreopogusParticipantYou should also consider that he is only getting 6 man minutes (25ish/game) and he’s putting up these numbers. Makes it that much more impressive if you ask me. Even if he is in the running for RotY and after that has a solid 10-15 year career averaging 15-20pts/game and 6-10 RBs people will still doubt his ability. But that chip on his shoulders is probably what makes him will baskets in the goal.
I also thought it was interesting that he became the goto guy down the stretch in both games (and got it done for them both times). Him teaming up with Granger, if he indeed does pan out, could make a nice 1-2 punch for a YOUNG Pacers team.

storm33ParticipantLook, it’s easy to say a rookie will have a good/bad season because of summerleague play. The reality is that the results of 2 summerleague games will not determine the result of Tyler Hansbrough’s rookie season. Has he looked good? Yes, he looks like he’s got something to prove, working very hard, and putting up nice numbers.
Just as an example of summerleague play, the announcers said Travis Diener had the Orlando summerleague scoring record. Diener is a good NBA reserve, but nothing more than that. I myself think that Hansbrough will have a good year and NBA career but I don’t think the past few days’ play makes much difference.

AreopogusParticipantI don’t think it’s all that big of a deal either, but it does mean something.
He led all scorers with 12 in the first half, 10-10 at the FT. He and Hibbert look good together and have some chemistry.

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantDid he have like 5 fouls in a summer league game?

rtbtParticipantAs I mentioned in another thread, it’s a little premature to make a full scale assessment of Tyler Hansbrough based on a couple of summer league games. However, we’ve seen enough to draw some conclusions that are right in line with what I’ve been saying about him all along.
1. He’s more physically talented than most of the so called draft pundits claimed. There were good reasons why he was the NCAA player of the Year and a guy who was double teamed virtually every game at NC.
2. One should never under estimate the power of drive and desire. If Darko Milicic had the drive and desire of Tyler Hansbrough, he would be a dominant big man in the league.
3. Those people who said Indiana made a mistake by drafting Hansbrough relatively early in the first round should eat their words. He is going to be a solid contributor, a character team guy, and a true professional for many years. I’m guessing he’ll be a dependable role player giving his team 20 to 25 minutes per game.
In the end, I think Hansbrough will probably prove for the umpteenth time how bad some NBA GMs are.
4. He’s already proven that absurd NBADraft.net comparison with Mark Madsen was a joke. I think in the year 2009 players should be compared by ability, playing style and their impact upon a team. It’s long past the time of using superficial characteristics as the basis for a comparison.
I’m sticking with my prediction that his impact on Indiana will be very similar to what Leon Powe and Louis Scola do for Boston and Houston. I should say what Leon Powe did before he was injured.

Stanford hoopsParticipantok we all know its only summer leauge but you can take somethings from it like rtbt said…you can tell if a pg looks like a pg..if a undersized pf thats trying to be a sf looks like a sf or just basic things like boxing out and aggressivness that can tell if a player has the potenial to be a good rebounder…i also compared him awhile ago to mark madsen( and i weas proven wrong)…but i already changed that a month ago to being more of a udonis haslem type player…i really like what hes showing and i used to be the biggest tyler hater a couple years back
