So I did this quarterway into season and asked how your team is looking and what you want to see going forward?

Indiana Pacers: Well this latest stretch has been painful to say the least and I am starting to look forward to the lottery. What they need to do for this season IMO is keep putting Solo on the tough defensive assignments so he can learn and help PG allowing him to score a bit more and not be so tired. I am not looking for Solo to be a scorer, but defensively he has started guarding 1’s, 2’s and 3’s.

I think they need to make some trades with the expiring contracts they have. Scola, Watson and Copeland could both be useful to contending teams and they may be able to get a young guy who is buried on some bench somewhere a chance to play. Maybe a guy like Stauskas or Lamb.

I think the core of Hill, Hill, George, West and Hibbert could still be good to go next season, but West is the guy I would entertain trading, Hibbert is still a major part of Indiana’s defensive identity and I hope he stays around, Hill proved when healthy and aggressive he can be very valuable.

West could be good on a contending team and maybe return a late 1st rounder and expiring contract again OKC comes to mind, with protected lottery pick and Perkins contract.

The draft will solely depend on pick, but the higher the better. I would love a scoring type PF a guy like Towns.Turner or if picking 7-10 take a chance with Looney who has great upside or even Lyles. Someone who could develop into nice complimentary piece for George.

I think with George, Solo, Miles and Rudez Indiana has a competent wing rotation. I’m fine with Hill starting as long as he remains aggressive.

So far I am pretty happy with the Lakers.  They are holding onto the 4th spot in the lottery, which is priotity number 1 in my eyes.  I would like to see them maybe move Hill for whatever they can get for him.  The 76ers have actually been having some decent games, I still think that if the Lakers were to get rid of Hill and maybe one other rotation player they could catch Philly.  However as long as they stay in the 4th spot I like their chances of keeping their pick, while also having pretty legit chance to jump into the top 3 which would be ideal.

As far as players currently on the roster.  I was really hoping to see Randle, obviously that got nixed very early in the season.  I do like what Ed Davis and Tarick Black provide.  Nick Young has been Nick Young and Kobe has been healthy… but as far as long term goes, I would like to see them play Clarkson more.  Other than that a lot of these guys dont’ really move the needle for me, and I can only imagine a few of them being contributors on a playoff team.

I think Philly has to catch THEM. Man, the NBA has gotten twisted.

Semantics aside, Hill results in wins, but everyone is saturating the market with big men at a discount. I guess you have to hope OKC can’t get Brook Lopez  and go for Hill instead. Who else needs one? Portland now? Nick Young, as weird as it is to say, results in wins. I don’t know if someone wants him, but they’re on the hook for several years at around 4 mil. Any takers?

I have mixed feelings so far:

    Pros:

Jimmy Butler is playing out of his mind. Everyone loved him as a solid defensive role player who made some offensive improvement. If you thought he was going to be this good you are either a liar or Marty McFly with the sports almanac.

Pau Gasol- A low post scorer. I forgot what one looked like after watching Boozer for years. Providing size, shot blocking and most importantly: low post offense.

Rose- He is not in a suit, so that is encouraging. He is hitting at least one 3 a game which I hope will open up his driving floaters.

Mirotic- Playing like a ROY canidate. I thought this was the Nico we would get in year 3, not first half of year one. Defensive liability but offensive firepower and shooting.

Picks- Possibly getting Kings pick and swaping with Clev

    Cons:

Rose- Still lacking the effectiveness he had pre injuries. Looks scared to drive. With all the additional offensive pieces the Bulls have his Assist numbers are too low.

Injuries- McDermott, Dunleavy, Rose, Hinrich, Noah have all missed time already on the year.

Defense- 15th best defense in the league is incredibly below what we have been accustomed to seeing the Bulls do.

    Raptors.

We started off super hot and the die hards were calling for 60 wins. We’re slowly coming back to earth now.

DeMar DeRozan. Missed 21 games. When he has been in the line up it is obvious that he is adjusting to being scouted as an all star. He sometimes goes into hero mode too much and takes ill advised shots. But he far and away our best scorer, and gets to the line and a rapid rate.

Kyle Lowry. Will definitely be an allstar. Was carrying the team when DeRozan was out, but it has become evident that he is burning out. Too many times this season he has been the only guy who has shown up to play. Hopefully with DeRozan back some of the load will be off him.

Terrence Ross. Mr. Inconsistent. Don’t know what happened in his personal life, but some nights his on court demeanor looks horrible. Take lazy jumpers and is even lazier on defense. Some nights he steps up huge for the team though. Recently he has been moved to the bench.

Jonas Valunciunas. Definitely got better but still sometimes looks lost on defense and offense. Not completely his fault, as soon as his makes a mistake Dwyane Casey is so quick to hook him. He would have made more strides if his coach believed in him more.

Lou Williams. Plays way too much iso ball, but when he is on the Raptors second unit is the best in the NBA.
Grevais Vaquez. Not sure what happened but took a huge step back this season.
    Ditto for Patrick Patterson.
James Johnson needs more playing time.

Dwyane Casey still makes a lot of head scratching moves and rotations but he has definitely improved a bit as a head coach. But if you told me in October that we’d be 27-14 after 41 games and be 3rd in the East I’d say we’re having a pretty successful season. I’m calling 53-57 wins.

I support both the Lakers and the Wizards, but given that someone’s already discussed the Lakers (and I mostly agree), I’ll just tackle the Wizards, who have had a great season for the most part.

The season has been great for the most part. I know everyone’s pretty high on John Wall right now (finally getting the attention he deserves), and rightly so. I am too. He’s going to be the starting PG for the east and is being mature on the court when it comes to controlling the game. But I personally believe that he can do more, especially with scoring. Everything else, he pretty much delivers. I won’t discuss it further because it might make the comment too lengthy. I’ll just leave it at that.

Beal is slowly finding his groove and the Paul Pierce effect is really showing in forms outside of the boxscore. He’s really done a nice job replacing Ariza. He’s basically doing the same job as Ariza, but he’s doing it in a completely different way. Prof. Andre Miller Ph.D. is doing Andre Miller things, and Rasual Butler is doing, well, Rasual Butler things x100.

The Veteran Bigmen Association of D.C. has pretty much done what has been asked from it.

    On the downside…

Otto Porter hasn’t exactly developed the way his summer league showing suggested, but has at least filled in decently – or at least not anything negative – when Pierce was hurt. This issue has mostly been overlooked due to the Wizards’ collective success, but might be an issue in the long-run. Speaking of false summer league showings, the summer league MVP, Glen Rice Jr. has just been waived. His roster spot is pretty much guaranteed to be used up on a veteran contributor (Ray Allen pls.)

Injuries have hit the Wizards as well. Pierce, Beal and Nene (what’s new) have missed significant time with injuries already. Thankfully, nothing has been so serious or recurring and that the substitutes have been able to fill-in as best as they could. Martell Webster was the most severely injured, and hasn’t really played well. After his strong 2012-2013 season, he has taken a step back each following season.

The Wizards were not beating the elite or quality teams in the league, especially early in the season. And they’ve also had very narrow wins over teams they should easily beat such as the Celtics and the Magic. But with great wins over the Bulls (twice) and the spurs, as well as this massive blowout over the Sixers, hopefully things are starting to change.

Coaching could be better, but John Wall and Randy Wittman have formed such a great bond. A wonderful superstar-coach relationship can do wonders for a team’s morale and chemistry – both of which are not really quantifiable. Maybe a little more postseason experience will help, or maybe Wittman is the Wizards’ Mark Jackson, and they are just waiting for their Steve Kerr.

I fully expect the Wizards to finish with a top 3 seed, and maybe even top 2. Anything below 3rd will be a disappointment for me. A conference finals appearance is also very much within reach. Hopefully John Wall blows up in the playoffs to officially be included in the conversation of top 5-10 players in the league.

As you all know the season started off miserable with a ridiculous amount of injuries. It was painful to watch but it was also nice to see guys like Perry Jones actually do some work when given some minutes. Reggie Jackson didn’t step up as much as I’d hoped during this time though.

However now that everyone (mostly) is back healthy we still seem to be stuck in mediocrity. I thought we’d come back with a bang, and we started to at first then Durant got injured again and since then it seems they lost a lot of steam. It’s like all the losses are getting to their head and they’re just not in the game mentally.

Russell Westbrook has probably been the most consistent, and he’s been balling but his antics and interviews prove he’s still an immature child, it should be embarassing to the team. Durant since recovery has been kind of 50/50, some nights he’s hot and others he just looks like he’s waiting for the game to end.

I like the acquisition of Waiters, at first glance he doesn’t really look like a good fit, but I think that’s exactly what the Thunder needed. They’ve been trying the same style of player for years it’s time to shake it up. As I write this the deal for Brook Lopez is all but dead, which is a disappointment. The Thunders glaring black hole has always been lack of a low post scorer, and there are not many better than Lopez. I think it was Perkins that screwed the deal over, they were not willing to take his contract and couldn’t find a third team to take it either. Perkins has long been a plague on this team, both on the court and contractually, and here he is again ruining one of the best trades OKC could have made. Perkins is a joke and I’m counting the days until his contract expires.

Then there’s Steven Adams, he shows flashes here and there but he’s just a taller & younger Perkins. He has zero offense and his best move on defense is to annoy his opponent. He’s still got potential but he’s nothing more than a career backup center that’s fortunate enough to only have Perkins as his competition in the rotation.

Serge Ibaka is doing great, but I think he’s starting to fall in love a bit too much with the 3. He’s hitting them at a pretty decent rate but we really need him to do more work on the inside, it’s like he refuses to develope a post game. But everyone loves Serge and he’s a house-hold name just as much as Westbrook & Durant in the Oklahoma area.

Coach Brooks, I’ve been hoping they’d fire him for a couple years now. He uses inefficient lineups and makes a lot of dumb calls. He was overrated when OKC went to the title earlier on, but he’s a horrible coach. He’s the kind of guy that when a team comes to town they know they will at least win the coaching battle.

So this may have been sort of a rant to an extent, but all in all I do think OKC will rev’ it up and make the playoffs with a 7th or 8th seed, but I just don’t think they’ll make it past the first or secoud round. This has been a bad year and it just makes me more worried for 2016 when Durant potentially leaves.

not much has changed since the quarter…

shaw still continues to try to find rotations that work well.  injuries haven’t helped as gallo, foye and mcgee haven’t been on the court.  making matters worse, gallo and foye are probably our 2 best shooters and those 3 would of lead a good bench squad against others.  thought the mozgov trade was a real win for us with mcgee setting to come back soon and nurkic looking like a guy that can contribute.  the nate rob trade was a head scratcher.  he was set to go into free agency while jameer has a player option.

jury is still out on gary harris.  would love to see him get more minutes at this point.

think the nuggs need to start thinking about moving some of their players.  chandler and foye have team options and are moveable assets.  afflalo may attract some interest from contenders.  darrell arthur has an expiring contract and is a serviceable big that can spread the floor.  with hickson and faried, there is really no reason to keep him here, even if its for a 2nd round pick.

i can’t see this team making the playoffs in a tough west unless there are a series of injuries on the fringe teams.  time to move some assets and get some picks.  build the team around lawson, harris, faried and nurkic.

Good and bad feelings at the moment

Thought that lance would be a good pickup but instead he is a virus with a josh smith feel. Big Al has not had the season I hoped for even though he has nagging injuries. Are record is not what is should be at the moment. ]

Pros: Gerald henderson is playing great basketball at both ends, Kemba is still heart and soul we also locked him up with a contract. Also Kidd gilchrist one of the most underrated players imo has came back form an injury avg 10 and 7 as a SF.  I sitll think we can sneak in the playoffs hopefuly we can get something back for lance.

Grizzlies: GREAT pecking order when everything is clicking: Marc number 1, Conley as the second option, Z Bo third, now Jeff Green 4th, and Courtney Lee fifth.

I like how our Front Office took a shot and went after Jeff Green.  He could be that scoring small forward we have needed since Rudy.

Marc Gasol is playing well.  He should be an All NBA first teamer this year, if not the league MVP.

Vince just isn’t getting it done so far.

We STILL can’t make outside shots at a consistent clip.  This is the Post-2011 NBA. You HAVE to make 3’s!

We need help at backup power forward.  Jeff Green is more of a 3.  Leuer isn’t quite getting it done, and Jarnell Stokes isn’t there yet.  Wish we still had James Johnson or Ed Davis.

Overall, we are who we are and I think we can make a DEEP run this year.

Im still happy with how the team is playing. The Lopez and Freeland injuries havent completely derailed the team even though they struggled this past week. The offense is running smoothely, theirs good effort on defense, and were executing in late game situations.

Lillard and Aldridge have been playing well and anchoring the team. Hopefully Aldridge isnt out for long with that hand injury. Him going down would leave them really thin in the post.

Matthews has been lights out all season. Hes become more aggressive and has embraced his role as the 3rd option that sets the tone defensively. Batum on the other hand has struggled mightily. He seems timid, with uncharacteristic turnovers and completely dissapearing after missing a couple shots.

Kaman and Blake are providing a veteran presence and are playing well in their limited roles

I like what i have seen out of Meyers Leonard who is finally putting everything together. In past years he had looked completely lost out their. Now not only is he in the right place but hes making plays and is scoring and rebounding at a high level.

The rest of the bench is just dragging along filling in where they are needed. I dont like what ive seen from CJ Mccollum who is a liability on defense who fails to make up for it on the other end. I think we are one trade away from being legit title contenders as long as were healthy. Wilson Chandler or Aaron Afflalo would be major upgrades off the bench.
