Last night, Harden went to the line 17 TIMES, showcasing his ability to charge at defenders, not to score but to draw a foul.  His style of play is painful to watch and I thought the refs would let them play. What moron in the NBA thinks this is an accectable way to play the game? Yes, Jordan and Kobe got to the line, but nothing like Harden. Harden just looks to draw a foul. I’m hoping the officials let them play more in the next series. If Harden is going to line 20-25 times a game, Mavs have no chance. I will not be watching this series.

Only if DeMar DeRozan’s name was James Harden (Sigh). DeRozan really sacrifices his ability to shoot a lot of shots to contribute his advantages by attacking the rim. I would love to see him receive the same amount of trips close to Harden. In the next game vs the Wizards, just take note of the play from DeRozan which is similar to Harden’s aggression to not receive those calls.

I havent watched much of Demar’s game so I can’t comment. When your just attacking the rim to draw a foul, your killing the flow of the game. Jordan and Kobe would attack the rim, but not the way Harden does. They were attacking it to score. When I watch Harden, I just see someone whos main goal is to get to the line and refs play into his hands.

If they foul him they foul him. Most of the time players are hitting James Harden when he attacks the basket. Stop crying because he can bait players to foul him. It might not be fun to watch but who cares what you think about how he choose to play. Will you like it so it will be no fouls in an NBA game?

I hate that Harden gets so many calls because it turns people against him, and it takes away from the incredible skill that he displays for us every time he walks onto the basketball court. People act like Harden is cheating or isn’t a good player without the FT, and those are both the furthest from the truth. Harden is an absolute ELITE offensive player, one of the best players with the ball in his hands that I’ve ever seen, and people need to respect that. He understands his skill, and he uses it to his advantage by making players foul him. It might not be pretty, but it’s highly effective, so he’s going to continue doing it.

Comparing Harden and Derozen is a joke to be honest, as DD isn’t even close to Hardens level. If you don’t want to see 20 free throws, then hope the opposing team plays better defense and learn to stay in front of him or stay on their feet. You can play good D without fouling, just don’t put yourself in a position where he can take advantage of you. It’s easier said than done, but people need to understand that getting FT’s is also a skill.

Free throws are the worst thing in sports. Not because they are unfair and boring, but because they give players and fans a reason to complain. I hate when an anouncer says "Refs are favoring Team A because they have 6 more ft’s than Team B." That is ridiculous, even though a lot of the time it that seems to be the case. We hear people complain all the time about Wade in 2006, as Mav fans say they were robbed. We hear people complain about LeBron getting too many calls when he just lowers his shoulder and trucks into people. Same with Harden. It’s just part of the game, and Elite players will find a way to take advantage of it

I agree that Hardens game is much more advanced then Derozans. His ball handling, strength, and body control is much more developed allowing him to draw more fouls. Although Derozan doesn’t get the same amount of 50/50 calls as Harden, and as the OP originally stated when contact is initiated by the ball handler the call could go either way, Harden gets those calls. Its not annoying to watch him earn 20-ft’s its annoying to watch him get given half his attempts.

With that being said he is definitely an elite scorer and should go down as an all time great. I think he should be this years MVP and people always find a way to hate on him. Respect is earned and he’s earned it.

Watching Harden play drives me crazy at times. So many times it looks like he isn’t even trying to score because he just trys to bulldoze people over to get a foul called and it works a good percentage of the time so it’s hard to blame him.

Personally, I find Harden’s ability to dangle the ball out just far enough that guys will reach in, but he can still gather the ball up and draw the contact to be an amazing skill.  Bad calls frustrate me, but for the most part, Harden is legit fouled a ton.  He’s very good at drawing fouls.

I take it the OP never saw game 7 of the 2010 finals.

Harden doesn’t get close to that level of treatment.
