I may get some thumbs down’s for this but Greivis Vasquez is underrated in this draft. If a team gets him mid second round it is an absolute blessing. He has matured a lot since his freshman year and isn’t the same out of control skinny point guard that he used to be. He had an amazing senior year capitalized by an outstanding showing in the NCAA tournament. Every fourth quarter this kid shows up and makes huge shots. He loves the spot light and does it all. A 6’6 not injury prone point guard that scores inside and out (36% from three isn’t so bad). But he hits big shots and will love playing on the big stage. Hes a very good defender and is rumored to be up to 210 lbs now which is plenty for an NBA point guard. ACC player of the year needs a little more love. I say he’s at least a late first round pick.

I have been preaching this for a bit in my posts on the Knicks. I would absolutely love if my knicks had the opportunity to draft him. He is a leader and a winner, I want him on my team any day. To me he is worth selecting in the late 1st round. You get a point for you post, no thumbs down at all.

I think if this draft was not so deep then he could be a first rounder but there are going to be a ton of first round talent guys in the second round.

I’d take Vazquez in the late 1st too. He’s never going to be a good defender, but he improved his decision making and shot a good deal this season, and his lack of athleticism and quickness is alleviated some by his ball-handling ability and size. I would take him as a change-of-pace PG, but in certain situations (like New York) he could be a good starter. I think Orlando and the Hawks should target him in the draft in the late 1st. He at least could be a great backup PG.

I can see Phil Jackson and the Lakers perhaps taking someone like Vasquez in very late 1st round. Coach Phil usually likes big PGs to run his “Triangle Offense”, and the way Sasha Vuchich has been in and out of Phil’s dog house, it looks like hes gone and perhaps Vasquez can take his place as a SG/PG off the bench.

Vazquez is definitely a starting caliber PG in some systems, and the Lakers system is one of those teams, along with the Knicks. He generally is a backup PG, but I believe he’s the 2nd best PG in this draft. I know people might think that’s crazy, but he’s a better PG than Bledsoe is IMO. Bledsoe has alot weaknesses that are scary, like scouts questioning his ball-handling (seriously, an NBA prospect at PG should have NO questions about his handle) and his NEGATIVE assist-to-turnover ratio.
