Do you guys think he’ll be ready for training camp this summer and if so what team do you think he suits up for.

Portland already has Roy and Aldridge long term, Rudy is RFA, Batum is coming up, Camby is on the books for like 9mil, and Miller is the PG and they dont have cap room to sign a new one.

So with Odens past i doubt they match an offer unless its small which is unlikely but I think its best they part ways.

Teams I think he could sign with are, New York, Miami, Atlanta, Boston,  Los Angeles Clippers or Houston

yea i would be surprised if he leaves the blazers…best teams for him are heat and knicks.

If Oden can get healthy he’d be the ideal running mate for Aldridge. They could take an inside-out approach with the twin towers inside. Matthews is solid, Miller is wily and Batum/Wallace are the best defensive SF rotation in the NBA. I really think if Portland gets healthy they can be contenders in the West again, despite Roy’s big contract and restricted abilities.

I hope he sticks around there.

It is in the neighborhood of 8.6 million. Portland will sign him for that, and he would be an unrestricted free agent that next year. Would be very surprised if he negotiated with other teams for long term deals less than that of the one year qualifier the Blazers will give him. Honestly, Portland has little to lose by giving Oden the offer and much more to gain. If it does not work out, than they can part ways as he will be free to sign anywhere that next season without Portland being able to match.

If raptors don’t get Enes Kanter, I believe they need a REAL center.

Lord knows enough teams have gambled on other Centers who either have had histories of injury and would have nowhere near the same impact as a healthy Greg Oden. Not to mention, that while a long term contract may look nice, he is 23 and will have a chance to not only make 8.6 million next year, but also more than likely sign for just as much if not more next season, without Portland matching if he does indeed want to leave. Portland has already invested in Greg Oden to this point, and if they decided to let him go for nothing, it would be a tremendously poor move.

Yes, I may be the most delusional Greg Oden fan of all time, but I am 100% for Portland giving him the qualifying offer. Would be incredibly surprised if Greg looked at other teams, and honestly, if he did indeed sign for anything under 10 per year, Portland may indeed match. It is a major gamble signing him for that type of money long term, but Portland signing him for the qualifier over one year is just common sense. You have a 7 foot Center who could potentially be a monster in the middle on defense and is incredibly difficult to box out. The guy is a freak for his size, and while he may never be the franchise big many pictured, he could REALLY help a team win.

Not only that, but if they let Greg walk for nothing, it is not like they can spend any money on someone else anyway. Paul Allen wants to win, and by keeping Greg for one year for this sum, he is improving this chance greatly. Even if Greg gets hurt again, chances are he could still sign with some team for something similar to what he would garner this off-season, and have no fear of the Blazers matching if he truly wants to leave. My guess is, he may not be a Blazer past 2012, but he has very little to lose by signing the qualifying offer. Not to mention, seeing as it is a one year offer, he could potentially be a trade chip, along with Marcus Camby and Andre Miller (who has a team option that the Blazers will likely pick up) who would be in the last year of their deals.

mikeyvthedon, It’s never a good thing to throw good money after bad. Just because they have invested a lot doesn’t mean they should continue to do so. The other thing to keep in mind about Oden’s potential deal is that (this is the really important part), if the league implements a hard cap, long term contracts to injury plagued players will be deadly to a teams success–that is unless contracts are non-guaranteed.

One year. Not long term. It is also not a good idea to spend money on players with little chance of having a big impact on your team, and people do that all the time. You do not pass up his potential just yet. You want some return on your investment, and this is the best case scenario to get it. You can cut your losses, but you have a major risk there too, as in another team getting a solid Center scot free. Greg Oden’s do not grow on trees. If you have a crystal ball and have seen Greg Oden being a bad investment, than my apologies. But, it is a major risk either way, and for next year signing Greg Oden to a one year qualifier is a much better thing for the Blazers to do than let him leave for nothing. Not to mention, Greg has expressed interest in signing for this, which is part of the reason he did not sign a long term extension. Also, they would not be able to sign him to a long term extension until they made the next CBA anyway, but regardless, I think it is a good idea to sign Greg Oden to the qualifying offer, not just because of what they invested, but also because of what he has to potentially offer. It is a one year deal, so it makes the gamble that much easier to deal with.

He should go to Orlando to back up Dwight Howard.. He would learn a lot from that guy, and wouldn’t have that much pressure on him anymore

Maybe he gets injured so frequently because he can’t keep his scrotal excess in his britches and his phone in his pocket.
