Monroe had a very nice second half of the season, he is playing with very high BBIQ and more athletic than people made him out to be out of the draft.  Where do you think his ceiling will be as a PF/C?

I see him being a 15PPG 9 RPG to go along with 4APG in his prime. The East are pretty deep in Centers (Howard, Stoudamire, Bogut, Lopez, Hibbert and Jonas potentially being a good one), he may have a tough time making an all-star roster. I see him just being a borderline all-star caliber Center. He has excellent skills, an intelligent player, and has an excellent NBA body, but he doesn’t assert himself enough to really be the main focal point of the offense, and that’s what’s going to keep him from being a true All-Star center.

I see him having a solid career. He played very well last year. But, then again, anyone looks good on a bad team…

"he doesn’t assert himself enough to really be the main focal point of the offense, and that’s what’s going to keep him from being a true All-Star center."

monroe definately asserts himself on the offense… especially later in the season when the pistons started giving him and daye an expanded role.. in fact.. id say that for the last quarter of the season he was THE MOST assertive player on the pistons, calling for the ball in the post..

I like Monroe as a player, his passing ability and fundamental soundness should make him a cornerstone of the franchise for years to come. I can almost see him being a poor man’s Tim Duncan; fundamentally sound, can play PF/C and passes well, but with a "quiet" demeanour on the court.

I was Shocked when the Warriors passed him over..His passing & rebounding skills were suited for a team like that….He’s capable of averaging 20 & 10…

i think the perfect comparison for him is Brad Daugherty, player who very skilled in the post and amazing passer for his position!

I haven’t really watched much of Greg Monroe.  Watched him on TV a few times when he was on Georgetown.  He sounds like a fundametally sound player who can pass.

His upside might be a less athletic Chris Webber.  Maybe 18-20 points and 9-10 rebounds being close to his ceiling averages.  Greg Monroe might make a few All Star teams, too.

People who thinks he will average close to 20ppg really doesn’t understand his court demeanor. His approach is similar to another former GTown center Roy Hibbert, Monroe isnt assertive/aggressive enough to be that type of scorer.

Greg Monroe will be best when he gets to play power forward. He isn’t a true center. If he has someone to take up the paint, where he can operate from the mid to high post. He operates best there.

I think he could be a 17-19 ppg 8-10 rpg type center. Very skilled, more of a below the rim type player, but effective none the less.

     Pau Gasol/Lamar Odom mix.

Probably somethingn like 16-10-4 on a winner. 20-10 isn’t out of the realm of possibilites if he remains in DET.

His athleticism may hold him back some,  but he is a very smart player and will easily be the franchise for Detroit for a long time. A poor man’s Pau Gasol isn’t too far off.

Greg could be a borderline All Star player and should become a very good complimentary starter at least so a Lemar Odom type player who maybe plays as one of the main guys on the team is a reasonable level to hope he achieves.

I don’t see him being a Franchise Player but he could be 2nd best player on a play off team.

The ceiling is tremendous. It isn’t fair to equate quiet and respectful with a lack of effort or drive. He figured "it" out rather quickly. To get on the floor and make an impact, he had to do the dirty work. He set the screens and crashed the offensive glass extremely well. As some of the Pistons vets lost interest, his role grew. I think with Monroe and Knight, Detroit is in good hands. The two will work well with Lawrence Frank. They will be committed on the defensive end, and should help bring out a more functional offense with movement and passing. Monroe isn’t a guy driven by numbers (a winning mentality), but it isn’t like the 14-10-2 he posted after the ASB is anything to sneeze at.

With Monroe and Knight it gives Detroit two excellent building blocks throw in the younger SF’s like Daye and Jerebko and there is a decent core there but perhaps rather like Indiana in recent years they may have to wait for a few of the bad contracts to lapse before they can do major rebuilding.
