Allen just got a T today for tripping his man playing defense on a drive. He clearly went out of his way to trip him. It was an obvious T.

This is the 3rd time, seems he can’t help himself. I defended his trip against Xavier because I felt X was hacking him for 8 minutes straight with only one foul call. So I was ok with Allen getting some payback. This time I can’t even justify it.

He has to be considered dirty at this point right?

Unless I missed something earlier in the game I don’t understand what got him so upset today against Elon.  He really needs to learn how to control his emotions better.

Draymond needs to give him some lessons to not make it looks so obvious.

I think there is something mentally wrong with Grayson.  He threw a temper tantrum on the bench after the technical.  There is a difference in playing with emotion and then playing completely out of control like Grayson Allen has done tonight and in the past.  It is inexcusable.  It will be interesting to see how the ACC and Coach K reacts to this.  I mean, as good as Grayson Allen is as a basketball, maybe it’s about time to take some responsibility for your actions and get some help.  Enough is enough.

the temper tantrum on the bench was because he knew he got caught. Sometimes when you are really pissed at yourself for doing something stupid, it is easier to yell at and about other people.

Grayson has the scoring ability to go on one man scoring runs. I bet Coach K is just going to accept the tripping and whining as taking the good with the bad. I mean he is not nut punching or hitting people in the face/head, so yes it is dirty, but it isn’t necessarily that dangerous (in comparison to a Henderson on Hansboro elbow to the face).

I’m guess Coach K puts out a blanket PC statement about keeping your composure and being a leader blah blah blah. All the while I don’t think Coach K cares. As long as Grayson can stay in the game and give Duke a very realistic shot at another title, it doesn’t matter how many trips happen.

You routinely show your bias and it’s never ok.  I remember going back and forth with you about Jabari’s athleticism or lack thereof as you mentioned.

Grayson should be punished with a game suspension.   This isn’t something they should hand down extreme punishments for.   It’s a d*ckhead move and very childish.  It doesn’t equate to him being a terrible person or "take responsibilty for your actions" like he out here getting DUI’s or taking made up college courses.   ACC shouldn’t do anything.   It’s a technical and Duke has given him a suspension.   Nothing more, nothing less.

So much fake outrage going on.

I get that the tripping stuff is bad/cheap, but why does it even ilicit a reaction from people anymore? Why do people care this much?

He now has done this 3 times. The fact that this guy seems to be unable to stop himself from tripping people has to make you wonder what is going on in his head. I don’t think it is outrageous or even that dangerous, but it is weird, funny and interesting.

Five game suspension and anger management counseling at a minimum.

That’s just it Chewy…it’s not that outrageous. Yeah it’s a foul and it’s cheap. But people are acting like the guy is literally out there murdering kids.

Not a Duke defender by any means but man people just pick weird crap to give a crap about.

A dude trips people…it’s not ideal. Doesn’t mean he’s the devil though.

The question is why does he keep doing it?  It doesn’t do anything but hurt his team.  At this point the refs are looking for him to kick/trip opposing players.

And why does he throw a tantrum on the bench.  Total emotional breakdown.  That’s the main problem.  You got beat and don’t have the lateral quickness to recover.

Marcus Smart and his flopping at Ok St. Smart kept flopping, didn’t get away with it very often, it was all over the media and he still kept doing it. I think this is a similiar situation where Allen isn’t getting away with it but he keeps doing it. Why?!

I agree that he will get more hate than deserved. A single Tech is an apporopriate consequence for an intential trip. If he does it again, T him up again. I don’t think further consequences are needed.

from just a T. He threw a temper tantrum because of the T.

Since this was the 3rd time he’s been caught, sit him down for three games. See if that makes the message permeate through his mop into his brain. Maybe some real consequences will make him re-examine his behavior. A simple technical foul isn’t doing it.

He threw a temper tantrum on the bench because he knew he got caught and there would be no way to justify it. I’m pretty sure he was just mad at himself. He doesn’t want to be known as a dirty player but he just can’t seem to help himself. He is clearly an emotional kid and those emotions seem to get the best of him at times. I don’t think he is a bad kid and I really don’t believe there was any malicious intent. It was just a stupid mistake. However, it is one that he subconsciously keeps repeating so there is obviously an underlying issue there that needs to be addressed. His reputation will take a serious hit and it’s something he’s going to have to deal with.

The ACC needs to take action and suspend him for at least a game or two imo, and even if they don’t than Duke needs to take it on themselves to suspend Allen. It’s a bush league tactic that should not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Sometimes a guys get s a label as dirty but he’s really a relentless & rough tough player on Defense like a Bruce Bowen

Maybe it’s b/c Allen looks so much like one of these privileged Rich kids who throws hissy fits when he can’t handle an opponent that I have a subconscious bias when I see him do this stuff

But sneaky stuff like this feels so cowardly

If you watch that play, under the best of circumstances, he was trying to set up an opportunity to flop against Elon. It was dirty, plain and simple. The fact that he bears some resemblence to Johnny Manziel probably doesn’t help his cause in terms of likeability, but his acts stand on their own. It is one thing to be physical or sneaky within the framework of the game. Clutching and holding happens. Little uses of the shoulds or arms get used to manufacture space. No one likes it when they are the recipient, but it is part of the game. Tripping guys from behind has never been part of the game. It can seriously injure someone.

And yes, the fact it was in the first half of a non-conference game against Elon in one of the ‘get back into the rhythm after finals’ games where the only possible explanation was that he was trying to set up a flop makes the perception of it all worse.

he seems to have some impulse issues and emotional regulation issues that i am sure would make some nba teams nervous about drafting him. i hope he can learn from this and grow from it. geting suspended might be very good for him long term as a person.

It was dirty as can be, and no defending it. I think what Allen was trying to do was by having his arm locked in with Santa Ana was steer him to the sideline and basically force him into a flopping charge, but Santa Ana spun on him. He threw a tantrum and kicked his leg out.

‘Indefinite’ is kind of a cowardly way of handling this. It sounds really severe while the story is in the news, but in the end it could just be a game or two.

He’s the worst for flopping too, did anyone see that mid-air flop? Just brutal.

He might be the most hated player in all of CBB in my lifetime. He plays for a good Duke team (a lot of people either love or hate Duke, especially when they’re a strong team), he repeatedly trips people, has an ugly stlye of play (reckless, can’t really finish well, poor D, chucker), is really overrated as an NBA prospect, he’s a cry baby, and the flopping is just awful. There are a lot of reasons that people hate on this kid, and I can’t think of anyone in basketball who’s been hated as much as him and actually deserved it (Dellavedova was up there too, but seems to have stopped trying to injure players on the court at least). I would be very disappointed if my team drafted him.

Duke is a magnet for hate, justified or not. Both Laettner and Redick recieved way more hate than Allen.

Duke have taken some strong action and I’m sure that Coach K has had some very strong words with him especially as he had that tantrum at the bench. Coach K would know all the tricks in the book that players use down the years and how to do things subtly and not get court.

We all know who the players who pushed the rules were but the majority of them knew how far they could take it as you aren’t much use if you get ejected and banned.

Grayson needs to have a long hard think about how he takes things forward and it waits to be seen what sort of ban the ACC formally put on him if any. If he got say a 5 game official ban, I could see Mike K sitting him another few games just to see how he reacts and to show him who is boss.

I can kind of relate: when I was younger and played ball I played angry and with a lot of emotion. I loved competing and now that I’m in my 40s there isn’t anything I miss more.

But that emotion also led me to get in fights, kick the ball in the middle of a game, do a lot of dumb stuff. I look back on it now and wonder what I was doing. I would have fits really similar to the one Allen had on the bench and watching that I suddenly saw myself. Those fits were rarely about anything specific, just that I wanted to play better and do better.

I still have them ever once in a while now, although it’s very rare. I’ll get frustrated with the weed eater or something and chuck it lol … my wife calls them mantrums…

Typically in life, I am the most fun loving, care free person in the world. We’re not all perfect, some people are just wired a certain way.

I never really learned to control my emotions as a player, and I wasn’t ever good enough for anyone to need to help me. I’m not saying what Allen did was right or anything, just that I understand.

Grayson has been underachieving this year anyways, Kennard and Amile have been playing better than him.

He’s just taking up minutes and shots at this point.   He was a lottery pick last season now he’s a second rounder for NEXT season.   I’ve said before that he did it for selfish reasons.  It didn’t make sense to come back when he already won a ring unless it was to win one with this crazy recruiting class as the "man".

Mike gave him the right lesson. He has to learn how to control his emotions. He may be an NBA player but not acting that way.
