Would have been top 15 player of all time if not hurt. First 6 years Avg 20-5-5. What a player and better person.

Only Jordan, Oscar, Bird , Lebron, Grant Hill, and Jerry west averaged 25+ 5+ and 5+ in their first 6 years.

Sad that he could have never reached his potential, but he has become a great man in the process.

I don’t think he’ll pursue a career in basketball management, coaching, etc. because he’s the kind of guy that is destined to do much bigger things imo…

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Obama calling within the next couple of months.

To me, Grant Hill is kind of like the Ken Griffey Jr. of basketball. Both had dads who were pro athletes, both had amazing starts to their careers, and unfortunately both of them never reached their potential due to injuries.

I think Ken Griffey Jr. could’ve become the greatest baseball player ever had he been more healthy. While I don’t think Grant was quite at that level, I do think he would’ve been a no-brainer Hall of Famer for sure.

That being said, I think he’ll make the Hall of Fame at some point which shows how great of a player he still was despite those injuries.

Grant was one of the true good guys in the NBA and must have been on a lot of lists of players we’d have loved to have seen win a championship. I didn’t see much of the pre injury Grant but he looked a true all round player who was just coming to his peak when he had the start of his ankle injuries. He showed what we were missing when he averaged nearly 20ppg in 2004-5 as a post injury 32 year old. During his time at Phoenix he reinvented himself as an intangibles type player often defending the oppositions best player and had his best period of durability for about 7 years.

Sadly he got injured early in his Clippers career and never really got into rotation and never had the chance to make an NBA final to go with his 3 NCAA Finals under Coach K.

Grant’s college and NBA career should make him a legit HOF contender when he becomes eligible and I agree that he’d make a great front office guy for any team or maybe in a coaching or mentor type role.

I remember first seeing him as a freshman at a game at Duke and then in the Final 4 that year….we were sitting right behind the basket for the final game against Kansas when he did a sensational tomehok slam right in front of us

Good bloodlines….dad all american at Yale all pro with the Cowboys…mother was Hillary Clinton’s roommate at Wellesley

Still remember having two of his jerseys and the GH3’s and GH4’s as a kid in high school. Being a loyal Piston fan for over 22 years, He was our franchise player for over half a decade and provided me and millions of others with a lot of awesome memories.

At the ’96 Olympics in Atlanta, I was at some store with my parents permission to get one team USA basketball jersey. I think I took like an hour to decide but I eventually went with Grant Hill. One of the biggest what ifs in basketball history.

He was like a better version of Pippen in his prime, but a lesser version of LeBron, like somewhere between the 2 thanks to his ability to play multiple positions and to pass-rebound-score.

Being able to play this long after all those injuries is a testament to Grant Hill; the person, to have the mental fortitude to keep coming back is greatness itself and yes I agree there are big things in the horizon for him because he’s a natural winner.

I’m very happy for him he somehow overcame his ankle struggles and he was one of the few players who somehow made it until the last game and still had the same aura, flair and even the same looks like in his early career. Definetly the prototype of all the modern wings along with Pippen. Strong, fast, skilled, scoring ability, defensive pride and a creator for others. Sad he lost the years entering his prime but still he proved he had the will to come back and showed what he is made of.

Definetly one of the players I fell in love when I started to follow NBA basketball and a childhood hero. I always tried to model my layups after him cause the way he did them with so much grace impressed me so much. I’ll miss him and Kobe and Duncan are the last of this breed now.

With Grant Hill having had maybe 4 years missed from his pro career with injuries, I just wonder if with him you almost see some downside with him having played his full 4 years at Duke. The perfect scenario may have been for him to declare in 1992 when he had won two titles with Coach K already.

But lets all remember the Duke and Detroit decade that Grant gave us and his great role playing years in Phoenix.
