valentineWhy do they still have a hard time landing top 50 players? They were just in the national championship game for crying out loud.

llperezMaybe lots of players want other things that gonzaga doesn’t provide like playing in a major conference with more competition and in front of larger crowds.

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantGonzaga values different things than other major school. You don’t see Stanford getting too many major recruits either…it’s a mix of conference and what Mark Few and the university wants for their program.

ChewyParticipantWhat was the difference between this year’s final four team and every other Gonzaga non final four team? Nigel Williams-Goss. That one MCDAA player was all they needed to take a normal Mark Few team and turn it into a true title contender.
If Few always recruits the same players, he will get the same results; a conference championship and bow out in the Sweet 16 or Elite 8.

wonzi_bellsParticipantPretty much, this was the first time Gonzaga had a guard good enough to be considered dynamic. By far, their most athletic team.
Anyways, what happened last season shouldn’t now be considered the norm in Spoken. Maybe it’ll set a precedent that they’ll get the best transfers year in and year out but lets see first.

Anton123ParticipantDon’t forget Zach Collins – another MCDAA and their biggest commitment in years.

ChewyParticipantZach Collins- 10 and 6 on 65% fg
Domantas Sabonis- 13.5 and 9 on 63% fg
I agree Zach Collins is a great talent, but Few has been racking up foriegn big men; Karnowski, Turiaf, Sacre, Olynyk, ect
But what they have always lacked is a leader guard like NWG.

BiggysmallsParticipantWasn’t Zach Norvell like a top 50 recruit? He redshirted and will likely start for this year’s Gonzaga team.
Also – Gonzaga might not rack up top-50 recruits. But they’ve quietly become a big time factor in the grad transfer market. They get good ones every year now because kids know what they are walking into with that situation and they are always on the verge of national contention. So they can sell a grad transfer on being the missing piece.
Playing in a National Title game isn’t going to suddenly turn Gonzaga into "Kentucky Northwest" – they’ve been a machine for a long time and they’ll continue to be a machine. That doesn’t mean they’ll start playing in National Title Games every year but they’ll be fine.
