I’ll try to put a post on this forum, it is my first attempt in the main forum. Well I found this news out there and wanted to know what you think.

Can be explained as a concern at the continuing Bought injuries. Also remember that GS has four teams this year.

Meyers has spent two years in college, averaging 13.6 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game in his final season.

    Here is the link:

He’s a project. I think it will take several years for him to be productive at the NBA level. I would rather see GS go for a player that can be productive sooner rather than later.

Clearly I am biased, but if I am going to roll the dice on a 7 footer this year, it would be with Fab Melo.  Still very raw but made a great leap from 1st to 2nd year (partial 2nd year- thanks Fab) at Syracuse.

OK, there’s some confusion on at least one site that picked up the GSW/ Meyers Leonard info & misinterpreted what I wrote…

If GSWs keep their pick, they’re looking SF (draft/trade). Leonard is an option if they combine OTHER picks & trade back into mid-1st rd.

Each year you have players surpersingly going up (last year no one thought thristan thompsons would go forth)

I like Leonard as a prospect.  He has good coordination and mobility for a 7 footer and is productive when he battles down low.  He also looks like he could easily develop a good jumper.  He needs to work on fighting for rebounding position, as his rebounding numbers weren’t especially good considering he is physically dominant for a college player.  He also didn’t really have enough of a scoring mentality in college.  Illinois would have been better if they had gotten Leonard the ball in the post more often.

Leonard does have excellent defensive potential, as he is a strong 7 footer who can block shots, has the mobility to defend the pick and roll, and has the ideal physical traits to become an excellent post defender at the center position.  He just will need to adjust to the physicality of the NBA.

Idk about anyone else but Meyers Leonard is one of those prospects that I pray my team stays away from.  I watched him play a few times last year and was simply not very impressed for a supposed "athletic 7-footer."

Leonard is a solid prospect, but going to a directionless team like Golden State is a bad match. A bigman who’s wet behind the ears needs another bigman to coach him. Bogut could be that guy, but I doubt he;ll play more than 40 games next season.

GS needs to get a polished player who doesn’t eff up every other possession.

Full disclosure I am an Illini fan.  With that said I think people are really sleeping on Meyers.  Maybe it is because of the influx of athletic 7 footers that have been busts, but I think Meyers has the ability to have a good career.  He is a legit 7’1" runs the floor very well, and has good leaping ability.  He has a nice hook shot, and developing posts moves.  He has a pretty good mid range game, and is good from the line for a big man.  His production for a 2nd year player that barely played as a freshman was excellent.  I like that he plays very aggressive, though picks up too many fouls and sometimes displays some immaturity on the court.  On defense he blocks and alters a lot of shots, using his long arms and athletecism.  Obviously he has a lot to work on and get stronger, but I think he can make an impact quicker than say Drummond or Melo, who didn’t put up the numbers that Leonard did last year.

They need a SF with a all-around game and sum defense not another athletic big, they should of learned they lesson from pass drafts & trades.

The Warriors recent big men first rounders have been Andris Biedrins, Ike Diogu, Patrick Obryant, Anthony Randolph, Epke Udoh, so needless to say if I were a Warriors fan I would be terrified of taking a project like Leonard.

This is a classic Warriors style pick.  There’s just no way they should get near Leonard, who I all but promise will be a bust for GS, though he might develop once they trade him.

Jeremy Tyler was stepping it up like a Bobcat.

7 Footers with this kind of athleticism are hard to find. That being said he is still a big risk and Marc Jackson and the Warriors can’t afford to be taking too many more of them if they want to keep their jobs.

These are the type of picks that keep teams in the lottery for 5 to 6 years in a row.

As someone who lives in the bay area, I’ve witnessed first hand the warriors inability to draft bigs. In fact, I still have nightmares over Todd Fuller. At this point, they should only be allowwed to address their big man problems via free agency or trades (even that scares me) I really hope that they are not seriously considering Leonard. The bust factor is way too high, even if they trade down for him. If they want another big, they should do it via free agency. As for the draft, they need to go with the best player available at where they are pcurrently picking and leave it at that.

as a warriors fan, if they somehow end up keeping their pick, i honestly wouldnt mind taking Jarred Sullinger. I understand Jeremy Lamb would still might be on board, but i’d rather get someone to deepen my front court depth over my back-court. especially since i have more injury issues at the big man department over the swing men. as for leonard, im with the other warrior fans who want to pass on the guy. could be a good player, not doubting that. but i’d much rather get someone who is much more polished that can contribute right away. if the warriors really want to go with direction of taking young talent who can be good down the line, id rather they do it two years from now when they might be re-loading the team if this current core doesnt pan out.
