Where are you guys sold on him as far as his NBA potential goes? I’ve been following him since he played at Tilton with Nerlens Noel and I have to admit that I’m quite impressed with what he’s accomplished so far at Iowa State. Lacks of elite athleticism and sounds like a 4 year guy but I really like his game.

I like Georges Niang and what he brings to the table in college basketball. He is a skilled, crafty player, who is effective and efficient.

On the other hand, Georges lacks the size and athleticism to keep up with NBA players. In college, he makes up for his 6’7 frame at the 4 with great instincts and footwork. He could not guard NBA 3s or 4s due to lack of size, quickness, and defensive prowess.

Draymond Green kind of seemed like a similar case. 3 differences:

    1. He had a better frame and more athletic potential (longer wingspan, shoulder width, etc.)

    2. He has the athetic ability to hang with backup 3s and 4s

    3. His defensive motor and leadership

I do not see the potential in Niang to slim down and become more athletic, otherwise I might think more highly of him as an NBA prospect. He could definitely make a living playing ball in Europe.

Niang is definitely a 4 year player, but I do think he’s the type of player an NBA coach could fall for and nab in the mid-to-late 2nd round.

Niang is very skilled, and I’ve been really impressed at his improvement this season, compared to a nice freshman year in 12-13. I think his pro appeal would be in the pick and pop game. He has a mid-range game, a long range game, old man style ball handling, and great vision and IQ. ISU uses him a lot as a high post facilitator, and he’s around a 3.5 apg player. On offense, he looks a little like a poor man’s Kevin Love, but he’s obviously much shorter and not even a good rebounder.

The negs, dubnation17 touched on. He’s not athletic, and looks to have a body type that isn’t going to help him get much more spring or speed. He’s not a good rebounder, and at 6’7” he’d be able to do much of anything on defense against NBA 3’s and 4’s.

I think when push comes to shove, he’s got a decent shot. He just seems like a guy who someone will like a lot to bring on and give a shot because of his intangables. He may only play a couple years, before going overseas, but I he may come on and find a his role as a more versitile Steve Novak type player. No one will expect much from him on D, but he can spread the floor and make good decisions in the pick and pop game.
