Monta9925ParticipantWith Fred Hoiberg as the new Chicago Bulls head coach an with his different coaching style that the bulls need and with Derrick Rose back what changes do you think the bulls will make this offseason ?
Which draft prospect do you think will fit their new fast pace system the most ? Who will they draft ?
Should they trade Taj or Noah ?
What new pieces will the bulls add in free agency ?
Will they match Jimmy Butlers contract if he is offered a max deal from another team ?
What changes do you see them making this offseason ?

TRC1991ParticipantHate to say it, but I don’t know if Rose will ever be what he once was…I don’t see him as being a good enough #1 option to take that team to the finals

omphalosParticipantI disagree. I think he was showing the ability to play at that level against the Cavs, but his stamina just wasn’t there after just returning from a six-week layoff.
With a more conservative minutes allocation under Hoiberg and finishing the season in good health I can see him making strides next season.
Also, I don’t think the Bulls need to make any changes to the roster as far as major trades.
This team is very deep, it’s just a matter of using the bench better and being more flexible with starters.
For example, there is no way Gasol and Noah should be starting together, because Noah can’t score and needs to have the ball to be involved and Gasol likes to post-up and passes well, needing the ball as well.
It should be Mirotic/Noah and Gibson/Gasol.
Bulls have a really bright future in my opinion, especially if they keep Butler and continue to develop guys like Snell, McDermott and Mirotic.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI think they are going to have to trade one of their frontcourt guys eventually to open up more mins for mirotic. Gibson and Noah seem like the most likely candidates but they might want to dangle gasol out there and see what they can get for him. He’s coming off a resurgent season and has a pretty favorable contract even though he is almost 35. However, I’m not sure how good of a fit he is for Chicago, particularly if hoiberg goes to a faster paced offense, which he almost definitely will.

Moon RiverParticipantI think they need to find out about Noah’s long term health. Did Thibs wear him down and he just needs a summer of rehab or does he have an injury that is not going to fully heal. I also agree with omphalas above that the Noah/Gasol mix simply does not work. They should move someone from the frontline. Personally, I would like to see Taj stay and see what the trade market is for Noah. I know he is the soul of that team, but if he is not healthy, he is not helping. I am also excited to see McDermott get more minutes. I heard Sam Smith on the radio the other day and when he had access to the Bulls practices last year, he said McDermott was clearly the best 3 point shooter on the team. That will be a valuable asset in Hoiberg’s up tempo and spacing focused offense.

GBeeParticipantDraft BPA. My preferences are: a perimeter player who can handle and slash or a big man who can bang and not get pushed around. Tyus Jones if he slips to them, Rozier, Alexander, Dakari are guys I would target. I’m not feeling their draft slot. Late first according to some of these mocks looks weak to me (the depth in general looks weak to me on subsequent looks), so if they can trade back and get any of those guys while acquiring another asset, that’d be gravy.
Noah’s knees are bone on bone. He should be the one to go, but given his condition, the Bulls might have to sweeten the pot for a trading partner, even if he is expiring.
IDK what they could acquire. The core is there and they’ll be capped out. Maybe another vet min PG like a Jameer Nelson if he’s not looking to get paid. I think they’ll rely on internal improvment to hopefully address a couple of holes (looking at Doug and Snell.)
They’ll match on Butler and they should.
As for Fred himself, I hope he builds the system around the personnel instead of just saying "we’re gonna play fast because that’s his system." I think the Bulls got rid of Thibs and acquired Fred because Hoiberg has a more flexible style and personality. The hope is that he DOES adjust as opposed to just imposing his style with no foresight or holistic vision. The Bulls as currently constructed are NOT a run and gun team. People liked to blame Thibs for the stagnant offense, but personnel was an issue. They didn’t have enough guys who can make plays and they didn’t have enough guys who can finish the plays that were made.

BallBeenLifeParticipantI know that the Clippers have been recently reported in coming close to completing a summer league deal with Royce, but I could see Hoiberg making a run at him also this summer. Hoiberg still has a strong relationship with Royce ever since he played for him at ISU. He understands where Royce is coming from regarding his anxiety disorder with flying.
A lot of people forget the chance Hoiberg took with bringing in Royce. He was just coming off being dismissed by Tubby Smith and the Gophers for two incidents; one for getting caught shop lifting at the Mall of America and then for being involved in stealing a laptop in the dorms during his 1st semester there. And even before that he was kicked out of De La Salle for cheating on tests twice.
He was thought of being too much of a risk and he did take some heat for doing so. But Hoiberg really helped turn his life around.. I feel the respect that Royce has for Hoiberg needs to be put into account when looking into the Bulls possible off season moves.
I’m not ashamed to say that I am rooting for him and still haven’t given up on the guy. I think Chicago could be a good spot for Royce to finally start his career. It’s hard to call him a bust since he hasn’t played a full season yet alone play a full game.

Monta9925ParticipantYea I agree with everything you said but I think they should consider taking Rondae Hollis Jefferson or Justin Anderson if their still available. They would help defend Lebron for the playoffs and they would bring that toughness and also athleticism that the bulls been lacking.

HitsterParticipantWe assume that Fred will have been told to use his bench more. If he plays an uptempo style as he did at ISU I wonder if it would suit the Bulls current roster. D-Rose has had the knee trouble and playing at a fast pace may not be good for him even if he does return to full form and fitness and Gasol pushing 35 may not want to be bolting up and down court night after night.
I think that Fred will find a style that fits the Bulls, they need to retain Butler, use 22nd pick to get a young SF or swingman. If they do trade a big I think Gibson may be moved on.
