JunkYardDogParticipantThe Raptors offered a 3year deal to Fields in order to kill the S&T between NY and Phoenix…
It should be a omer asik kind of deal (with a big 3rd year)….

TyroberParticipantI love these games of war between teams. Knicks trying to trade for Nash? Kill the deal by signing Fields. Awesome

JunkYardDogParticipantyeah that was AWESOME… even if thei don’t manage to get Nash then they can land Lin (field’s best friend) with a mass offer.
some are saying that’s overpaying players… but when you talk about 58M for Big Roy, 58M for always injured Gordon, 40M for Wallace, 50M for Batum, 24M for Asik …. wel well… I won’t care giving 36M to national Hero Nash and 20M to a good role player like Fields.

TallmanNYCParticipantFields is better than most people think. He isn’t a "run your offense through him" 2G, but he does score and he does everything else you want out of a basketball player. If you want your 2G to be the next Michael Jordan or at least Michael Jordan-lite, then Fields isn’t your guy. You’d probably like Marshon Brooks or OJ Mayo better. But if you want to win games and among your other four starters you have an offensive threat or two (which allows Fields to play off the ball some), then you will be much better off with Fields than those guys or in fact most 2Gs in the league.
Knicks are going to fall apart if they start dropping guys like Fields. Next thing you know they might let Lin and Novak go.

Anton123ParticipantDoes Fields start at the beginning of the season? Possibly going with a starting line up of:
PG Calderon (Bayless)
SG Fields (Ross)
SF DeRozan (J.Johnson or Kleiza)
PF Bargniani (Davis)
C Valanciunas (A.Johnson)
I actually like the line up, if DeRozan has a good season and Ross plays well enough to win the starting spot – the Raptors could be like a 7-th seed.

JunkYardDogParticipantYou forgot NASH as the PG (or Lin in the worst case)… surely instead of Calderon (with amnesty)

HotSnotParticipantWTF!?!? Why sign Fields when you just drafted Ross instead of Drummond? I hope there’s some Tor trades in the works to explain why Colangelo is blowing his wad on more role players.

CynthiaParticipant"Colangelo is blowing his wad"
Sorry but that just doesn’t sound right. Haha

thparadoxParticipantThis is bloody moronic. I like Fields. He’s an excellent role player. But the Raptors aren’t close to contending so it makes no sense whatsoever.
This is 19M + 36M = $55 MILLION for what… maybe 1 year of Steve Nash?
The Turkoglu signing was an appalling move. It was obviously a poor decision.
This is even worse.
I’m done with being a fan. I’m officially renouncing the Raptors until they get rid of Colangelo and commit to a true rebuilding effort.

PyronParticipanti like fields.. he’s a good glue guy. not the star power everyone would want but he has a solid game, plays defence and works hard.
if this was a strategy to get nash to the raps.. and we actually get him.. i’ll +1 the raps for this sneaky sneaky move lol

iguapops420ParticipantI’ve never really thought of Fields as a 2. He’s more like a 3 with the build of a 2. His say 3 Imo. Especially his rebounding ability in an uptempo offense.

R-Dot-13Participanti like this a lot.
Fields is a starting caliber player that can start the season and have Ross win the job from him (he will)
Plus it kills the S+T possibility for the Knicks. If we sign Nash we ARE a playoff team. Nash would really help Jonas develop as a player, A LOT. Watching them in pick and roll situations would be great. Especially with Ross and Derozan on the Wings and Andrea Stretchin the floor too in his natural position at C. Not only would signing Nash improve the team, he would seriously help improve the PLAYERS and organization in general, which is something i think he’d want to do.
The Raptors are off to a solid start this off season with this movie signing Fields and in the draft, i just hope the Nash signing goes through and I will be very happy.0 - AuthorPosts
