Ok so I still can’t get over the fact that Randle is only being paid 9 mil a year while Derrick Favors just earned a contract twice that at 18 million. Randle brings much more to the table than Favors. Favors may be a better interior defender but Randle is the better perimeter defender and ball-handler. No way is Favors worth twice as much as Randle.

Also, it’s puzzling to me that the Lakers let go of Randle but then sign Rondo at the same price. I’d think they wouldn’t want to pay Randle, but turns out they both make 9 million. Maybe Randle doesn’t want any part of any Lebron drama?

What are your thoughts on this? Is Randle underrated?

I’m just happy for Julius finally being in a situation where he can play next to a player who complements him and in a situation where he can showcase his skills. I’ve always thought he can be a 20-10 guy if he is in the right spot. Hoping that his last few months in LA are a sign of things to come for him. He and AD could be a deadly combo on offense.

I think this has more to do with Utah blowing cash like crazy this summer than Favors being that much more valuable than Randle. Think about this: Dante Exum will be making more than Randle next yr too, which is just ridiculous

Utah is literally gonna be what Portland already is…a top heavy team with a bunch of bloated contracts for average roleplayers  weighing them down. The only good part about their signings is that they’re somewhat short term deals.

I was really hoping that the Mavs sign Randle and that they paid DeAndre so much money (24 million or something?) and to see that Randle has a two year player option deal worth 18 total is really insane.

The Mavs felt the pressure to sign players quick after they came out empty several summers now with big men especially Jordan back then. So with just a little more patience this summer after LeBron and PG made their decisions early and changed everything. Randle is still young and I read his 18/9/3 was only matched by LeBron, Giannis and Cousins. I like his game and despite the crying needs in today’s game for outside shooting, he already has a very complete set of tools and impact. He is a decent defender, very good passer and rebounder and plays with an edge to his game. If the Mavs sign him this summer, I give them an A+ for this summer. He would have been perfect for them imo. The Mavs wanted to save money for 2019 and chose to only handed out a one year deal and I understand this but Randle would have been the better choice to me. Even on the same deal as Jordan I would have liked it better.

On the other hand AD and Randle could be amazing together and I hope the Pels can stay competitive even if they will chellenge my Thunder next year.

Favors is also a little bit head scratching given the size of this deal but seems to be the price the Jazz has to pay when they hand out only a two year deal to a player who is still in his prime. No ideal fit after some decent but also a little stagnant years in Utah. Dante’s 3 year deal is a little bit hefty too and if he doesn’t stay healthy from now this will look bad but maybe he can turn the corner and finally has the chance to arrive as a big part of the bench mob.

According to Ramona Shelburne he asked to be renounced.

Ramona Shelburne: According to multiple sources Julius Randle asked to be renounced by the the Lakers once it became clear his role could dramatically change this season and the team wasn’t interested in making a longer term commitment to him.

The difference between randles deal and rondos is that rondo signed for one year and Randle for 2. Even though they are both earning 9 mil this year the lakers don’t want any additional cap space on their books next season and are only signing players to one year deals. Randle didn’t want to sign a one year deal so the lakers weren’t bringing him back. He also would’ve likely seen his role reduced pretty drastically with lebron in LA.

While I agree that Utah overpaid for favors, they are not a free agent destination and he is actually valuable for them in that he can play both the 4 and 5 positions (which Randle really cannot do). He started showing signs of stretching his range out to 3 this season and I think they are counting on him continuing to develop that. He’s also a better pure post scorer than Gobert. While they could’ve tried to squeeze him to try to get him to sign for less you would run the risk of possibly losing him then and I don’t know if they would have been able to replace what he provides.
