Eric Bledsoe won't be a Clipper after this season. He'll be a RFA this summer and we all know he's going to get paid. With Chris Paul about to get PAID, the Clippers won't match Bledsoe's deal. That's a given. The only way he stays with the Clippers is if something goes awfully wrong and Paul doesn't re-sign.
Let's look at a few of the teams that could throw big money his way:
Jazz - They have decisions to make on Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap, but this team will have plenty of cap space and they need a long term answer at point guard. I think they'll go after Bledsoe the hardest. Bledsoe, Alec Burks, Gordon Hayward, Enes Kanter and Derrick Favors would be a great young core.
Hawks - The Hawks will have plenty of cap room. They want Chris Paul, but may have to settle on his backup. They have a QO on Jeff Teague, so we'll see what happens there.
Hornets/Pelicans - Eric Gordon needs a long term back court mate and it's not going to be Austin Rivers. Greivis Vasquez has proven better than expected, but I think they'd still throw money at Bledsoe.
Dallas - The Mavs will have cap room and will go after Dwight Howard/Paul, but I highly doubt those two players turn down bigger contracts just to sign with the Mavs. Like Dirk Nowitzki said, hope won't build the franchise. They may have to take a gamble on Bledsoe. They'll have to re-sign OJ Mayo too, but a Bledsoe and Mayo back court going forward would be very good.
Any other teams who could make a move for Bledsoe?
I can see the magic making a move, they need a good young point guard, how much cap space does Indiana have? They need extra playmaking help bad
The Magic will have some money after they waive Hedo Turkoglu and Al Harrington, so that'd be another team who goes in on him.
The Pacers... They gave $40 million to George Hill last season, so they're out. IF they're going to get playmaking, it's going to come in a deal when they trade Danny Granger, who'll be on the last year of his deal.
Well I guess you can throw Toronto in the mix, seeing as they may let Lowry walk or trade him.
You are incorrect. Bledsoe actually has a team option for next year of 2.3 million so in all likelihood unless they get a great deal or lock up CP3 and deem Bledsoe expendable he will be a Clipper to start next season. The 2014-15 season however I assume he will be gone.
Good catch. I got my seasons mixed up. They picked up his team option for 2013-2014 just before last season I think.
IF they do re-sign Chris Paul, which to me should be a no brainer for both sides, I do think the Clippers will go ahead and trade Bledsoe.
How about the Bucks? It doesn't look like they have Brandon Jennings in their future and Monta Ellis is far from a point guard. Maybe they try to make a pitch to him. He'd be in a much smaller market, but he fits the core of young players that can run with him in transition.
Would Detroit swap Brandon Knight for him?
Obviously if they sign CP3 you try to sell him on the team and try to extend him next season. If you lose CP3, you match any RFA offer in 2014. Either way, I don't think its a done deal he's gonna be elsewhere.
I love Bledsoe and watch every Clipper game but I also know he's not worth what he's going to get. He's not a pure PG, shooting is suspect, decision making is ok but to me he's not a franchise starting point guard in this league at this point. He's great defensively and finishing at the rim, but he never has too much pressure on him and he's been losing his minutes since the Bucks game when he hurt his hip. To me he's not that much different than Avery Bradley, which is a great spark off the bench on a good team. I think a team will certainly overpay him. That being said I do beleive he's the best athlete on the Clippers and maybe even the league.
The Clippers have the rights to him. I honestly see them matching any deal for him even with Chris Paul resigning. You can't let a piece like him just walk away. Maybe it becomes a James Harden type move. He gets traded and then signs his extension with the new team.
If the mavs pick up bledsoe it will just be another thing that annoys dirk as he comes to the close of his career, he is doesnt like playing with penetrating score first guards like bledsoe, he got devin harris traded for j-kidd for that reason, and he isnt enjoying his time with darren collison this season. as a dallas fan i hope we trade away off everyone except dirk and oj, get oj resigned, then try and get a high draft pick to fill the massive void dirk retiring will leave in our offence, because lets face it, dallas arent going to be making a big playoff push before dirk retires.
Last time I checked Eric Bledsoe's deal expires after NEXT season. Not the end of this season.
