Last night was the first read game he got any minutes.

His line was 25 min 5 points 7 rebounds 4 assists and 3 blocks, pretty solid on paper. But I didn’t get to watch the game.

What are you guys’ mid season thoughts on a player who was one of the most popluar preseason picks for player most likely to be a bust? Or analysis on his game if you got to see the game last night.

I am kind of 50/50 on Ekpe Udoh…I believe he could be a good player but I question his work ethic.

I’ll tell you what, he showed his quickness and athleticism on one play where he got a tip dunk.

Then the Rockets tried to beat the Warriors the other way after inbounding the ball and he hustled back all the way to block Courtney Lee’s shot.

It was nice, since I’m from Houston, it’s nice to see a Baylor Bear do some good things.

From what I saw he looked very promising but you cannot judge a player on one game. He was drafted on his athletic ability but his all round game and commitment looked pretty good.

He made an instant impact on the court last nigth and with Biendrins out Udoh was plus 9 off the bench…The offensive rebound dunk was nice where he crashed from the 3 point line and dunked it over 3 Rocket defenders then hustled back down court to block Lee fastbreak shot was a thing of beauty.  These are the type of plays he will make more often.  And he is more versatile then given credit for.  So  far Udoh is looking like a solid pick and he played Center most of the time he was in as to any hint on how the Warriors will use him.

actually with 3assists per game in college basketball(only Monroe i remember to avg more in recent year) for a big man and almost 4 blocked shots his all around game was always very good..he isn’t a scorer but he can do it too..it he would be a typical rookie i would say he is potentially an allstar in the future but he is 23yrs old..how ever he is still not finished protect so he will be nice, maybe not that good like 6th pick of pretty deep class should be but still pretty good.

"So far Udoh is looking like a solid pick"

If only one good game was enough to keep the board from having a new is Evan Turner a bust thread every week? I find it incredibly amusing the completely random scale by which players are evaluated.

If a player is on the floor in a Warriors game, it is hard not to put up numbers. The pace is quick and the level of sophistication to how those games go is not very high. It does not surprise me when anyone on either end of a Warriors game puts up a stat line. I said before the year, I would not bat an eyelash if Udoh simply filled the Anthony Tolliver stat line once he got healthy. I also said he won’t ever have impact on the Warriors becoming a better team, and I stand by that.

I think he’ll have a Joe Smith-esque career. Solid role player who makes open jumpers and can post some too and rebounds at a decent rate. He also will be a good shot-blocker. Udoh is also an underrated passer. He’s just not a true scorer.

Thanks for the input on his game last night.  He’s always kind of intrigued me as a prospect as I got to see a lot of him in college, he isn’t a great scorer but as a 3rd option in college he hit his open shots and has potential as a pick and pop player on offense. I think a Joe Smith career comparison is good, but his game reminds me more of a post oriented AK47.

And he played great, really good man defender, hes a real nice passer, already our best post defender and offensively has a nice post game. W’s fans hope he can take Biedrin’s spot soon cause we need his defense next to Lee more than rebounding . I think eventually he can be our starting center some time this year or next. He’s 6-10 245 and is REALLY long and has some really broad shoulders. Im not saying Dwight shoulders but pretty close for a rookie

BTPH dude what is your problem? You are so depressing?  Are you alright dude seriously like do you need somebody to talk too?  [email protected] thats my email if you happen to find yourself on a ledge or bridge with an ipad shoot me a kite man i’ll try to talk you down.

Anyways I feel like you are completely wrong on your Udoh assessment.  No it is not hard for somebody to put up bumbers in a Warriors Uni.  With that said when was the last time they had a post player that did?  Biendrins can’t score more then 6 points a game.  I thought Amundson would be the white Ben Wallace but he can’t put up numbers in that system.  Lee’s scoring and rebounding are both down.

But above all that Udoh is the perfect cog for a team trying to build a winning mentality.  He plays defense, he executes on offense and he is a coaches dream who plays hard every single play and leave it all on the floor.

Before I ever knew anything about Udoh as a prospect because he kinda came on late last year to become a potential lotto pick to the 6th pick, I was watching Baylor play and after seeing Udoh in action I thought to myself this guy is a stud.  He just has that IT factor.

Udoh said that the Warriors matched him up against Aldrich, and Whiteside, and Pittman in one workout.  He said they matched him up against all the centers meaning the Warriors drafted Udoh to be their Center of the future with Lee as the PF.  This could work very well.  Both players have a midrange game and can pass well.  And Udoh is a shot blocking phenom.  I don’t like the Joe Smith comparison one bit and JayNix is usually one point with his comparisons.  Udoh is must stronger, athletic, and versatile then Joe Smith.  Yes I remember how athletic and long Joe Smith was coming out of college as the first pick but Udoh does not have Smith’s scoring touch.

Ekpe Udoh’s game will pan out very similar to Noah’s.  Noah was 22 during the draft but turned 23 during the season.  And Noah didn’t have an instant impact either look how long it took him to hit his stride people were calling him a bust 2 years ago.  Udoh has a similar skill set and most importantly has the SAME motor.  That is why Udoh was drafted 6th.  Udoh’s motor is off the charts.  Udoh is so fast he is going to be consistantely beating other bigs down the floor and cleaning up on the glass.  Udoh and Lee are going to be a nightmare to eventually guard in the Low-High Post game.  Both players being able to go low or high and pass nicely.

The W’s still need to make a decision on Ellis tho.  I love Ellis but it’s either him or Curry.  Sure that backcourt works amazingly well on offense but they will never be able to guard bigger tougher teams for a playoff series.  Ellis for Iggy solves everything then you have this lineup.

    Curry

    Iggy

    Wright

    Lee

    Biendrins/Udoh

After either signing or trading for another stud small forward or Wrights growth the future looks amazingly bright in GS with offense and defense.  And frontcourt of Iggy, Udoh and Biendrins would be great on defense.  With Wright and Curry using their length to keep people out of a lane clogged up Andris and Ekpe with Iggy locking down the best wing player on the other team.  SEE: Iggy hold Kobe to 9 points on Friday night.

nateoak10 he will be your starting center.  I thought the Warriors were crazy for passing on Aminu and Monroe, even Xavier Henry and Paul George I thought could of went at that spot especially Henry.  I thought Aminu and Monroe were going to be better players.  After seeing Udoh translate his game effortlessly last night I’m not so sure.  Udoh got the motor that Monroe don’t.  And Udoh like to mix it up and is very physical.  Now that they got Lee and Wright is playing so well I understand the pick.  I still think Aminu would of been the best pick but big men are harder to find.  And Udoh got all the makings of a difference maker.

but Nateoak you don’t think your team would benefit by trading for Iggy who would no doubt put up like 20, 6, and 7 on that team.

You are aware that Udoh had 5 points and 7 rebounds while taking the minutes of the injured Biedrins who in just about the same time is averaging 6.7 points and 9.8 rebounds. Lou Amundson, for the year, has played in all of 7 games and averaging 18 minutes. Given how much he is on the floor (and given the money given to Lee and Biedrins why would anyone think he would play more), why would you be surprised that his numbers are 5 and 4 per?

Monta’s great offense outweighs Iggy’s defense imo. And without Monta we dont have a go to scorer. Monta is playing like a star while Iggy is playing like an overpayed 3rd wheel. He wouldn’t average 20 a game here simply cause to score here you need a killer instinct which he really lacks and hes not shooting well this year . Baron, Monta, Jackson and Curry all could score here cause they know when to explode. Jamal Crawford flopped here cause he didn’t have that same mentality. If we could trade Andris for Iggy and we threw in a pick and 14 mil in expirings and have them both thatd be best

Monta is the 3rd best SG in the NBA this year. Iggy may not be a top 5 SF

No way Kevin Martin is a better shooting guard than Monta Ellis, he’s shooting lights out but is way too one dimensional for me to consider him better than a more well rounded talent like Ellis.
