Emeka Okafor
He's a major disappointment in my opinion because he was supposed to be the face of Charlotte which is what they drafted him for and although he had good numbers he didn't become that player. He's a solid role player now but at number 2 overall and the guy people were comparing to Dwight Howard, he's been a major disappointment.
1 and 2 picks are never compared to one another.. If anything, Howard was compared to Emeka, which he wasnt, because Okafor was a Junior in college when he decided to enter the draft...
What you said was that Okafor was compared to Howard... Gotta be clear when ya talk or else you look stupid...
I do now that he cleared up it up.. When you say that he was compared to Howard, then that means he was compared to Howard..
When you say that they were drafted at the same time and play the same position, that is different... You can go suck his d!ck and pat him on the back and tell him its okay but you and I both know that he sounded stupid...
He had a great rookie year, but he never got better after that. He's still a very good defensive center, but he hasn't improved offensively at all. He never developed a jumper, he's still a poor ft shooter and he never developed a go to move. I think he will have a bounce back year though (he really looked out of place).
I'm gonna admit something: I thought Okafor was the next great big man.
I remember a Lakers-Bobcats game where he had a MONSTER game. I don't remember exactly, he had like 30 points and 21 rebounds and just dominated Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum. I remember thinking " Whoa, could this be it? Is he ready to go all Patrick Ewing on us?"

Okafor's problem is not really his size, it appears to be his lack of explosive athleticism because he has the length and at 6'10" and change with his broad shoulders and size, he should be able to man the post. Kendrick Perkins is shorter than Okafor and he is one the best defensive centers in the league. I think if New Orleans utilizes him better that he could have a very good year because Charlotte was never a good team for him.
He is incredibly intelligent, and I was impressed with him as a person. However, as a basketball player, he has left a lot to be desired. He won ROY over Howard, but you could definitely see right away that the Magic made the right choice. Emeka just does not have Howards athleticism and size. He is undersized for a Center, and just lacks the speed of Howard (not to mention Dwight's shoulders and frame, which I think attribute to his success as well). Emeka just has never seemed to have gotten better. He is incredibly limited offensively, and also is highlighted as a horrible free throw shooter. His size would make you hope he would play the 4, but he has been a 5 for most of his career, which I can say is probably due to his willingness to guard other Centers. However, he never became the shut down defender he was thought to be, and while he is not a horrible shot blocker, he is no where close to the marvel people thought he may be due to his success at UCONN. He is still young, but it just seems like he is an average Center at this point, and if you have Emeka on your team, you more than likely are looking to upgrade the position. He has still yet to play for a play-off team, and while that might not be his fault, it definitely tells you he was not the franchise player he was pretty much billed as after leading UCONN to the championship (though their team was stacked, Charlie V, Ben Gordon, pretty monster squad in general). The other reason, which may not be fair but is always pointed to, is that Emeka makes 8 figures. Now, when players seem to be at the level of 10 million plus, yet are not All-Star level players, than people start to label them as underachievers and point out their faults more so than what that player still provides. While I did not think the Tyson Chandler trade was horrible for the Hornets, I knew much better than to think Emeka would solve all of their problems. They were still vastly undersized with he and West manning 4-5, even with their strength and bulk. So, these might be the reasons that while Emeka is one of their better people in the league, he is one of the less talked about players. Until his game matches his intelligence, it will more than likely be that way.
One of the smartest, nicest players in the game who was also a 2nd pick and is a pretty good player, imo. His name is NEVER EVER mentioned on this site though. Whats your opinion on him?
