    All Breakout Team

Point guard: Jrue Holiday ( Philadelphia 76ers)- Holiday was a favorite of mine in the 2009 NBA draft. Sadly, the Knicks passed him (another post in the future). Holiday is 6-4 and a strong on ball defender. In summer league play, Holiday has shown more lead guard qualities and was getting the “Gary Payton” comparison when defending point guards and shooting guards. Right now, he’s not named the starter but don’t be shocked if he starts over Lou Williams.

Shooting guard: Anthony Morrow ( New Jersey Nets)- Morrow was a 22 year old undrafted rookie, now after 2 seasons in Golden State, he’s moved on to New Jersey where I believe he can post even better numbers. Morrow now is the starting shooting guard and could increase his scoring from 13 to 17 with more playing time. Also, Terrance Williams and Devin Harris are respectable playmakers who should get open shots for Morrow.

Small Forward: Chris Douglas Roberts ( Milwaukee Bucks)- We go from a new Net to a old Net in CDR. Douglas-Roberts might be the shooting guard or starting small forward ( if the Bucks decide Maggette is best off the bench). Either way, Douglas-Roberts made huge strides last season go from what was perceived as a selfish scorer to a smarter offensive player and a improving defender.

Power Forward: Andrea Bargnani ( Toronto Raptors)- Someone who averaged 17 points and 6 rebounds could breakout? Yes. Bargnani will be the main offensive player in Toronto now that Bosh is gone. At age 24, some compared him to Dirk the year he was coming out the draft. Now, he might have a chance to prove it. Being the first option, I see 22 points and 8 rebounds potentially. Let’s look at it another way: Either Bargnani steps up, OR Toronto will be able to scout Harrison Barnes next season.

Center: JaVale McGee (Washington Wizards)- With John Wall coming in next season, McGee will be seen as the Tyson Chandler to Wall’s Chris Paul. McGee is athletic-look at the tape right here. The question: Is he capable of using this as a springboard to help him in the regular season? Although he was good in the open court but he need to develop those post moves. McGee should be able to post numbers like 14ppg and 8rpg next season.

    My All East Team

    Derrick Rose

    Dwyane Wade

    LeBron James

    Al Horford

    Andrew Bogut

    5 Storylines In The East

    – Shake up In Detroit

The Pistons haven’t been to back to back lotteries since the 93-94 season. They have some terrible contracts mixed with some young players. Somehow, the Pistons must look to use there young talent ( Jonas Jerebko, Rodney Stuckey, Austin Daye, Greg Monroe, Terrico White) and look to move some bad contracts ( Richard Hamilton, Ben Gordon) or it could get VERY ugly in Detroit.

    – Derrick Rose: MVP?

With LeBron now going to Miami, many people believe the MVP award is up for grabs. Don’t sleep on Derrick Rose. Rose has made strides in his 1st 2 seasons and the addition of Carlos Boozer, Kyle Korver and Ronnie Brewer give him some more scorers. Carlos Boozer will help Derrick Rose because it gives him someone who could make people think twice before double teaming him.

    – Toronto & Cleveland’s bounce back

After losing their top players, Cleveland and Toronto look to rebuild. Cleveland looks to use Mo Williams and Antwan Jamison to remain out the cellar. Toronto uses it’s young talent in Andrea Bargnani, DeMar DeRozan, Sonny Weems, Amir Johnson and 13th overall pick Ed Davis to help save basketball in Toronto. Neither will have winning seasons this year but the future isn’t dark.

    – Larry Brown: Year 3

Year 1: Larry rips down the team.

    Year 2: Playoffs for Larry

Year 3: Larry’s team falls back in the conference then he looks to leave.

    – Dwight Howard

This seems to be the season. Dwight Howard could go from to some people “superstar lacking the post moves” to ” The best big man in the NBA”. He has 3 teams who he could make his legacy on. If he developed his low post moves with Hakeem, he could be a MVP candidate AND get Orlando back into the finals.

Great post, honestly thou…I see Jan Vesely joining the Raptors with like the 4th to 8th pick. I wish we could grab Jones or Barnes I just dont see it happening. Maybe Kanter or Melo deserves a look and Bargnani could be traded for a decent SF like Igoudala.

Great list and Holiday will be the starter and you’re right about the Knicks passing on him apparently D’Antoni wanted Holiday and the front office wanted Hill, well the front office will always win and luckily for me they did and Holiday was there at 17. The only one I disagree about is CDR i love CDR but i don’t think his numbers will look any different this year because of Maggette and Redd coming back from injuries. Thad Young however could have a huge year finally especially once Iggy is traded which is almost inevitable at this point. Iggy is just not good enough to be the guy and there is no doubt even after drafting Turner that he thinks he is still. I love Iggy but for some reason his on court demeanor is like Kobe Bryant and frankly he just isn’t that good. OH yeah and as a Knicks fan you had to be screaming for the Knicks to draft either Holiday or Jennings cuz i was, especially Jennings he would of put fans back in the seats and looked amazing in D’Antoni’s offense. Def would of won ROY in the New York.

Don’t be surprised if Bargnani’s averages around 25 points next year. And Anthony Randolph should be in any most improved player discussion as well as Tyrus Thomas, they finally are on teams that have a plan to use to talents.

BTW Basketball in Toronto doesnt need saving…Just because we lost Chris Bosh doesnt mean we need saving. We are still Top 15 in Basketball Revenue, the most loved team internationally, and we have some of the most diehard fans. Basketball in Toronto aint going nowhere.

agree with most of it. But i disagree about 2 of your breakout players, CDR and barganni. I just dont think CDR is that good. Going from the nets who were terrible at the wing spots to the bucks who have maggette, salmons, illyasova, Moute and redd means less playing time for cdr in my book. And bargani just doesnt have a great one on one game to me. Now with no one to help him out in getting open looks, i think any improvement in stats will be limited.

Im also not gonna pick horford and bogut as the top 2 bigs in the east. Howard, Bosh and Amare are my top 3 bigs in the east with bogut coming in right behind them and horford a little further down the ladder.

Perez Im just going to say what you said about Bargnani was wrong in so many ways. First of all he does have a good one on one game. The person that creates his offence is not Chris Bosh, it is usually whoever is running the offence. The ball handler. So basically that means Jack, Calderon, and most likely this year Derozan will be incorporated as more of a playmaker. They will use him in picks and use screens around him to create open looks and space out defenders for isolation matchups. alot of teams think they can put some rugged 250 pound big-man on Bargnani, but they cant because he does have good enough handles and foot speed to blow by them. Alot of teams think they can put someone 6’7-6’9 on bargnani to compensate for his footspeed, but they cant because he will simply shoot over them from anywhere on the floor. He has a very good one on one game.

What Bargnani struggles with is shot selection and reasons his confidence is hurt alot is because players and coaches on the Raptors organization have always been getting on him about shot selection, rebounding and blocking shots. This year they will not get on him on shot selection as they are looking for a 1st option, and his shot blocking is proven. His confidence should not be hurt, percenteges should drop, and turnovers increase, although his scoring will increase along with assists.

i disagree. He has a very squared up set shot form on his jumper and if a defender gets up on him and gets after him, he wont be as good at getting it off. As for his off the dribble game, its nothing special. He will be the number one defensive assignement every night now and teams will lock in on him. He does not have the post game to dominate and he will be stuck out on the permiter trying to force a lot of stuff. I do think his stats go up marginally, but not to the point where he will be an allstar or have one of the best breakout years in the league.
