I ask this question only half joking & i really believe the argument can be made…was considering this watching Rockets v. Lakers tonight…pound for pound, inch for inch, all things considered, is Earl Boykins the most talented player in the NBA & therefore the world?

They NBA is not kids soccer… they actually keep score so Boykins is a liability because of his lack of height in spite of the skills he may posess.

Right now, Earl Boykins is 35 and on the downside of his career. Isaiah Thomas and Nate Robinson are both only 5-9 180, so I’d say “pound for pound, inch for inch,” they’re more talented than Earl Boykins, although it is cool to see a 5-5 130 pound player have a long, successful career.

but for the arguments sake, lets pretend we’re having this convo 5-8 years ago when he was with Denver etc…would you give him that title then?

I watch Nate Rob all the time and i have similar thoughts…the shots they hafta shoot are much tougher, the lanes they penetrate close quicker, and they hafta be so precise out there just to do things the bigger guys do routinely. I h8 to use if’s but imagine if Earl and Nate were average NBA size 6’5, 6’6 with their skill set.

Who doesn’t like earl boykins…. I have loved watching him play.. But for the record.. Height comes into play when considering how good of a ballhandler and what sort of lateral quickness a player can have at their best… There’s a reason there aren’t more 6’9” PG’s… (coming from a jealous 6’9” wanna be PG)… If Earl was 6’6” he wouldn’t have the same ball handling ability or quickness (higher center of gravity.. higher distance to have to bounce the ball…) I’m happy is so short and so old and still effective..

Muggsy Bogues was a much better player than Boykins, he was by far the greatest athlete to ever play in the league.  But it is kind of unfair to say if a guy was 6’6 etc. because smaller people are always more athletic.  If Muggsy was 6’6 he would weigh like 260 be faster than Usain Bolt with a 57 inch vertical and stronger than Dwight Howard.
