This is my own thought!  Not a rumor I am starting but it is an idea of mine!

Could the Blazers quietly make a play for Dwight Howard?  They have the 6th and 11th picks in the first round of this draft and they have nice young pieces to add to a trade.

I don’t know how the money would work but it could look like this:

Orlando gets: Johnny Flynn, Luke Babbitt, Hasheem Thabeet, the 6th and 11th picks

Portland gets: Dwight Howard, Hedo Turkolu, 19th pick

    Lineups going forward?

The main problem is still the same for this trade as all the other. Dwight only has 1 year remaining on his contract. If he doesn’t sign before a trade, it is too much to give up.

Very true.. And I agree with that.  It is just something that came to mind.. If Howard were to sign an extension, this trade would help both teams for now and the future.

Haven’t Flynn and Thabeet’s options not been picked up for next year but it would probably be the best offer of picks that Orlando would get apart from if Cleveland came in with an offer maybe. But with Portland being under cap they could probably get around the contracts having to balance.

If you want a way out Dwight Howard trade idea, NOH now own Rashard Lewis’s huge expiring deal which with it’s buyout might appeal to Orlando if they want to package Turko with Dwight as it would save them aprox $10 million. Although NOH will have Anthony Davis, it would not seem a logical location for Dwight to move to even if they resign Eric Gordon and brought in a veteran PG. But Lewis’s deal could be used as part of a 3 way deal between Orlando, NOH and the team Dwight ends up on whereby NOH get a good player from Dwight’s receiving team and Lewis then nominally goes back to Orlando who buy him out and he then maybe joins Dwight on his new team once he clears waivers.

What if Dwight and Dwill now agrres to go to NO? NO sends #10 and Lewis’ contact to Orlando for Howard and Turk. NO will also have cap space to sign Deron Williams, then they can go over the cap to re-sign E Gordon. DWill-Gordon-Turk-Davis-Howard

^ So you want the Magic to trade Howard for the 10th pick? Obviously you should have realized that was a silly idea while you were typing it.

Also to the OP why would you have Orlando giving up their 19th pick as well?

8th I have thought of this same trade as well except a three team trade with Brooklyn. Here is how it would go

Orlando Trades :Dwight Howard and Hedo

    Brooklyn Trades: Brook Lopez

Portland Trades: 6th and 11th Pick

Orlando gets: 6th and 11th Pick

Portland gets: Brook Lopez and Hedo

    Brooklyn gets: Dwight Howard

Oh and I forgot to add Brooklyn trades future draft picks as well to Orlando since they will begin rebuilding once Dwight leaves

Orlando have to get an offer on the table to Dwight come 1st July if current rules allow, once team option contracts come up for decision then this puts more trade options out the window and the nearer that Dwight gets to FA next year, the more his trade value drops. Any team taking him as a rental won’t give up a lot and if Dwight plays hardball then Orlando could end up with nothing.

A lot could still depend on what if any moves the new Orlando GM could make, who they get in as Head Coach etc if they decide to make one last play to keep Dwight.
