After reading this on Espn I feel bad for the guy.

It sounds like he does want to stay with the Magic, but he said it. He can’t do it alone. The Magic made a panic move last year with the big five player trade and that I think is going to be why Howard leaves. There is no way they can make this team better. No one wants the bad, bad contracts of Turk or Arenas. Over the cap… The team is in a bad place right now. It’s almost like trading him is the better long term thing to do.

The suns trade made sense but the Arenas one was shooting themselves in the foot

The Suns deal was a decent one as it got Turko back and shipped VC away who didn’t work out. Otis Smith has tried Lewis, Carter and now Arenas to give Superman a decent running mate alongside Jameer Nelson but none of these moves have worked out and if Dwight does opt out next summer then Orlando are left with around $65 million on Arenas and Turko’s combined contracts remaining.

@Universal. He said he wants to stay in Orlando and he has also said he wants to win. It doesnt look like he will be winning anything with the Magic soon. They are stuck with horrible contracts and not enough talent

I think the biggest mistake the Magic had made was to keep Jameer Nelson around after trading for Gilbert Arenas.  Rashad Lewis was as much a bad contract as Gilbert Arenas so it was just a big gamble by Otis Smith to get "STAR" power (Lewis is not even on the all-star level anymore while Arenas (if healthy) can still play at a high level).  Gilbert Arenas was not comfortable with the new role in Orlando and Stan Van Gundy couldn’t figure out how to use all the talent he had.  I don’t think Stan Van Gundy is a good coach.  He’s riding D12 and all the talent, but he does not know how to get the best out of his players.

They should have traded Nelson for a legit starting PF.  The roster would be more balanced and Gilbert Arenas would figure out his role and play much better as a starter and a primary ball handler.

    I think the Magic should:

    1) Make sure Gilbert Arenas is 100% healthy and get into shape.  Arenas is known to be a hard worker, so with the right direction, this is possible.  Nobody would trade for Arenas, so they better get him to play up to the $.

    2) Motivate Turkoboo to get in shape.  He has not been in shape since he signed that ridiculous contract with the Raptors.  Nobody would trade for Turkoboo as he failed at both Toronto and Phoenix (I was surprised that BC was able to unload him without much trouble last year).  This guy can’t play without D12.

    3) Trade Jameer Nelson for a starting PF.  Jameer Nelson still has good value for a team looking for a starting PG.  The Magic have to understand that Brandon Bass is a freaking backup and in order to kick start Arenas’ game, they have to start him and let him handle the Ball.  Playing Nelson and Arenas is a disaster on D.

    4) Find a defensive SG who can make 3s.

Nelson for Charlie V?  Charlie V has his problem, but his game may work with D12 as he’s solid long range shooter.

Nelson for Marvin Williams would be another idea.

Or somehow come up with a deal to get Captain Jack and Boris Diaw from the Bobcats as both are available.

Nelson + Redick + Bass for Jack and Diaw?

A starting lineup of Arenas / Captain Jack / Turkoboo / Diaw / D12 with some free agent pieces should be good for contention.
