if he wins a championship this year, then that’s a good ceiling to stay at. He’s the best at what he does and that’s scoring. He might be at his ceiling but that’s pretty stinkin good. If lebron didn’t have such a phenomenal year then he would’ve got the mvp. durant will get probably around 2 mvps or so when it’s all said and done. but yes it is hard for him to improve on assists because westbrook has the ball a lot.

He’s is the conversation as the best player in the world, he’s about to win his first ring(ahem) at age 23, his first of what could be many, he’s been the scoring champ 3 years in a row, also lead his team in rebounding and improved his D considerably (as I’m sure you’ve noticed in these playoffs). If that’s his ceiling and it stays that way the next 10 years, what is the problem?

Is it just me or has Durant basically hit his ceiling as a player?  He’s one of the best shooters and scorers in the game but that’s about it. I know he rebounds well but at 6’11 he better. But I don’t see where he can go from here. He’ll never be a big assist guy because he doesn’t handle the ball that much on a consistent basis. I’m curious where his game can go from here? I think well see the same dominate shooter for 15 years but that’s about it. A 6’11 version of Ray Allen.

If he somehow puts on 15 pounds and work on his post skills he could easily average 30+ multiple seasons

theres always things one could work on like communication on defense or even having a better impact on that end of the floor. adding weight or becoming more efficient. these are all things that he could potentially work on in the coming years.

Ill take Durant over anyone else in the NBA for the next 8 years. He’s only 23 and has lead the league in scoring the last 3 seasons. He is argueably the most clutch player in the league right now also. And what else do you want Durant to do? He averaged 28ppg, 8reb, 3.5 ast, 1.3 stl, 1.2 blk, 86% from the line. And oh yea, he just went up 1-0 in the Finals tonight.

if the guy could have more rebounds and assist that would solidify his career as a future hall of famer but we have to remember he is only 23 yrs old he could still reach his full potential added def, rebounds, assist could spell top 20 best of all time if eh adds this things to his arsenal

he doesnt even need to improve his rebounding and assist to become a top 20 player alltime if he keeps winning scoring titles and wins a few championships

Durant has certainly not peaked or reached his potential, he can continue to refine his shooting stroke, his handle can certainly still improve, as has been mentioned, he can add more of a post-up game (there are already flashes of Dirk’s turnaround jumper in his game), he can add a step-back.

The key thing will be for Durant to become a better defender, and able to defend top players without fouling for greater periods of time. He’s shown amazing defensive instincts in short bursts, but can’t play that aggressively defensively all the time without risking foul trouble at this point in time.

Whether all this leads to better numbers is a different story, because Durant embraces a team-first concept, and might be content with the number of shots he’s getting at the moment, but there are still many things he could do to improve his game and raise it even higher.

What I love about Durant, and the Thunder team as a whole really, is that you say they can’t do something and they come out the next year and do it. Every year Durants game has been nitpicked, and every year he comes back better. He couldn’t shoot threes his rookie year, now he hits them like lay ups. He had no handle last year, now he has one of the dirtiest crossovers in the NBA. Durant doesn’t get his team involved on offense, now he’s feeding the post players that drive and you’re seeing him rack up assists on a nightly basis. Just the fact that

Durant is so young and still has a lot to learn about the game itself is scary, let alone him actually getting more skilled which he can easily do. I wouldn’t mind seeing  him get a Dirk like post game. That would make him litterally ungaurdable.

At 23, he recorded career highs in rebounds (8.0), assists (3.5) FG% (50%) and blocks(1.2)

I think when a guy’s game keeps getting better every year, it’s way to early to say he’s peaked.  He also continues to become a better athlete and since most men’s peak in athletic ability is around 25 or 26, I wouldn’t be surpised if he continued to get stronger and increase his quickness.  Not to mention, with his work ethic, I have no doubt his skill will increase too.

I know he’s good, but very few superstars peak at 23.

Durant’s upside is a hybrid of MJ and Dirk. He is already an unguardable offensive force like Jordan for most of his career
or like Dirk in last year’s playoffs. He has good rebounding numbers. Jordan was a great rebounder for a guard. Dirk is average at
    best for a big man.

Both those guys are great low post scorers. But they refined that late in their respective careers. If Durant can work on that in the next couple of years then that will only add to his game and put him the short list of legends.

He is on a great pace. 3 scoring titles at a young age puts him in Jordan/Wilt company. If he gets a title this year that would put him the category of young title winners with Bill Russell, Magic, and Larry Bird. Great company.

He is on pace to being one of the top 20 ever. Maybe even top 10.

Realistically I can see him getting 5 scoring titles, 3 championships, and 3 MVP’s.
Of course, he could so even better than that especially if OKC can keep its young core intact.

I can see him having a “peak” season of 33 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks a game.

I think he will get aow post game. I think he will improve his defense. And I can also see him improving his ball handling and passing, maybe not on Magic’s level or Bird’s level but still better than the vast majority of small forwards. Those improvements would easily put him among a handful of all-time NBA greats.

The sky really is the limit for Kevin Durant.

Durant can be an all-time great.  No point in pretending a rank at this point, but here’s where he can improve:

    1. Moving and getting open without the ball.

    2. Man defense, particularly when at a strength disadvantage.

    3. Weakside rotations when he has the weaker wing player (thanks Thabo!) and can afford to help.

    4. Covering passing lanes – with his length he should be a terror there.

    5. Passing – hardest to work on – his vision will likely always be more good than great.
