We’ve been hearing a bit about draft "promises" such as Barnes and Beal not going lower than 4 with Cleveland so they didn’t work out with Sacramento and Waiters being promised to go no lower than 13 with Phoenix. I just wanted to say that "promises" are made every year to players and a good amount of the time they are broken. The two that come to the top of my mind are Big Baby Davis and Gabe Pruitt being promised they’d be taken at the end of the first round by at least one team, yet they slipped to a lower spot.

Obviously these two aren’t at the level of the players with promises this year, but every year guys with promises fall lower then promised. Another good example is Rashard Lewis one was promised to be picked in the first round, he was even invited to the green room, and he fell into the second round. I just remember the tears streaming down his face over it and how he was upset that his hometown Houston didn’t use one of there three first round picks on him.

was directed towards me, my bad. I just am trying to be helpful. I dont always believe the promises but thats the fun of all this. As for the Waiters promise, I hope he falls. I dont see the hype around him.

I don’t like draft promises because it is not written in stone. Just like rashard Lewis I think if phoenix doesn’t draft Dion waiters he’s going to look stupid and hes gonna fall because teams didn’t get to work him out

This wasn’t pointed at anyone specifically. Your post was useful, you were just telling us what’s being said.

I just find that it’s human nature that when we hear a guy has a promise everyone automatically believes he’s going there. Right now there is so much misinformation going on by teams in an attempt to mess with other teams heads.

I read earlier today that they are looking to get another first. Teams like OKC, Miami and Chicago dont want gauranteed contracts and will take a 2nd. GS could get some solid players with 2 late 1sts. If they got another first they would go big IMO. Ezeli could be an option.

I agree with you there, it’s very tempting to believe what’s being said. We’ll have to wait and see. On top of all that there is still the trade angle which I expect to see from some of the teams with multiple first round picks particularly Golden State and Houston.

It makes sense. Miami and OKC likely only want a first round pick that they are sure fits there team. For example last year Miami didn’t have a first round pick and traded up to get Norris Cole who really fit their system.

I doubt Chicago trades out of the first round unless they get a better guy for their team by making a deal. I wonder if Tony Wroten falls if Chicago snatches him up. They badly need someone who can get their own shot especially with Rose out this year.

Ive had Wroten there for awhile now but he needs work on his shot from what Ive read. I could see the Bulls going after a player like Evan Fournier, Will Barton or Jenkins if hes there. I dont see them going PG as I feel they will roll with Watson.

I hope they do be cause I feel they need a PG but dont see many worthy of a late first. I suppose Jenkins could fill that void. Im not so sure they would go with a player like Wroten.

They’ve got to re-sign Watson first, he’s a free agent

I think they should at least be able to re-sign Watson for a one year deal. I had heard previously that he wanted more playing time and he wasn’t thrilled with limited minutes behind Rose. With Rose out for the year there is a decent chance he returns so he can start and raise his worth.

I don’t necessarily think too much of Wroten as a point guard, but more like a slashing two guard with a good handle. The Bulls need someone who can create their own shot badly and he could be a fit. They could also go wtih John Jenkins or Doron Lamb, two guys who are capable scorers.

Accepting promises show just how immature and silly these players are. If  a lottery talent starts to drop further than teams think they will not keep those promises to those players they will just select the best player.
