I don’t understand why upper lottery teams always panic if they don’t land the #1 pick or are not in position to land a player they covet, there’s always next year. For Example: the Bobcats didn’t land the # 1  pick, to select Anthony Davis, "Oh Well!!!", draft Harrison Barnes with the 2nd pick, pray you land #1 next year, to draft Cody Zeller, who’s a better offensive big man than Davis anyway…The Bobcats would be stupid to draft Thomas Robinson 2nd, when next year’s draft will have a lot much more taller big men…At 6’9 or 6’8, T-Rob and Bismack Biyobo, who’s 6’9, will be a layup line waiting to happen, that would be a terrible pairing…Barnes at best is a next Glen Rice and at worst, I say he’s another Caron Butler, either way he’ll be a very good player to have on their team, especially because he played for the Tar Heels (hometown player), he excels at shooting and the Bobcats lack shooters, and he’ll give them instant offense for a team that barely has players that can fill it up….Bobcats should select Barnes 2nd, and pray to get #1 next year to draft Cody Zeller, or they could opt for taller big man if they fall short of #1 again, like Steven Adams, Issiah Austin, or etc, instead of drafting T-Rob 2nd this year.

Cody Zeller is nowhere near the prospect that Anthony Davis is. Some years the #1 pick is much more valuable than others. Praying for lotto balls is not a good strategy for a franchise. I don’t think Zeller will end up going first next year either. I would say Shabazz or Noel are more likely to be the first pick. Zeller will be a good player but he doesn’t have the size, length or athleticism to warrant the # 1 overall selection in 2013.

Have you watched Bismack Biyombo play?  The dude has the speed, agility and motor of a guard and a fantastic wingspan.  All of which combine to more then make up for him being "only 6ft9".  He blankets anyone he’s guarding…

The point I’m trying to make is, whether it’s Noels, Cody Zeller, Steven Adams, Issiah Austin, or etc, next year’s draft has a lot of taller, lengthier big man in the lottery, so the Bobcats don’t have to panic and draft T-Rob, who’s 6’8 or 6’9…Since Bismack is 6’9, it’s better to pair him with a taller big man…They should draft Barnes 2nd instead, it makes better sense to do that and fill their void at small forward

Cody Zeller’s standing reach is probably shorter than Biymobo’s.  He isn’t bigger than Biyombo.  Anyways, Biyombo has good size for a center.  Size isn’t his issue.  They should just take the BPA, which in my opinion is MKG.  But i don’t say you pass on Robinson because Biyombo is 6’9"

will ever be glen rice. Rice could probaply still outshoot barnes. At Michigan glen rice shot 60 percent from the floor and 52 percent from 3. He is one of the best shooters i have ever seen

Cody Zellers 6’9 wingspan will keep him from being the 1st pick in any draft.  Despite likely having a more productive season as a collegiate, guys like McAdoo , Noel , and Muhammad will get drafted before him.  Possibly Steven Adams as well , next years draft is a bit off a drop off compared to this years it seems.

Teams dont Panic when they dont get the 1st Pick..They’re Hurt and of course they have to move on..But the team that finish with the worst record, will always feel slighted knowing that the worst team didnt get the number 1 pick…And in every other sport ,the team with the worst record always get the number 1 pick…

I bet Now OKC(Seattle) arent upset they didnt get the 1st pick in 2007..

The Bobcats need a lot of help so they should take whoever they think the best player is regardless of their position this year and next year. I don’t see what you are trying to get at with the panic stuff?

I really like McAdoo.  If he can play the 3 then he would be very promising.  Not sure what the Bobcats should do at 2.  I think Drummond and Biyombo, while not ideal, would offer lots of potential for defense, rebounds, and dunks.  If defense wins in the NBA and if rebounds are important then the Bobcats can really help themselves there with Drummond and Biyombo up front.

Then they can go after McAdoo or Shabazz Mohammed next year.

If I were them I would still try to trade the pick for 6 and 11.  They could take Perry Jones to play the 3, and then Jared Sullinger if he there at 11.  Biyombo, Sullinger, and Perry Jones would be a pretty good front line with Byron Mullens off the bench.  … then take Will Barton in the second round to pair with Kemba Walker in the backcourt.  … Then pick up a shooter in free agency like Steve Novak.

If they can’t get 6 and 11 for just the 2nd pick they should throw in DJ Augstin too, and maybe ask Portland for a second rounder or Elliott Williams.

I think that Kemba Walker, Bismack Biyombo, Perry Jones, Jared Sullinger, Byron Mullens, Will Barton, Elliott Williams, Gerald Henderson, and Steve Novak would be a nice core.  Then next year they could add another solid piece.  If I were them I would also look at a cheaper veteran point guard to kind of mentor Kemba Walker.

Wingspang on Zeller won’t be as big of an issue to scouts/GMs as it is to a player like Drummond/Bismack/raw bigs, because Zeller has offensive skillset that doesn’t come around very often for a true 7 footer. Measurments and athletic tests determine a players draft position when you’re drafting more on potential, and not skill. 6’9 wingspan or not, he’s still a 7 footer can put the ball in the bucket, and teams that win championships nearly almost have someone like that (yes, of course, not this year, but not since the 90s Bulls team has that not been true)

But this thread isn’t about Zeller, it’s about Charlotte not thinking long term. They will be terrible again next year. There’s maybe 5-8 PF and Cs in the top 10 next year (depending on how you view Mitchell, McAdoo, Poythress). Many of whom could be better next to Bismack the Robinson (2 generously measured 6’9 players in your front court is not going to cut it. I can’t think of any successful teams with that little height in their bigmen). And I can’t see any of next years SF prospects being better then Barnes.

So the question for Charlotte isn’t Barnes or Robinson, it’s Barnes and Zeller/Noel/Shabbaz or Robinson and Shabazz/Hood/Caldwell-Pope.
