this is a short one..no jump shots(but it doesn’t matter for me while i’m from Lithuania and i know he shoots far better than in that workout ) there are some other aspects of the game like quickness footwork some athleticism than not every 7footer has.

JunkYardDogParticipantDo you think some players can intentionnely "miss" some workouts in order to be drafted lower that is to say in better team with better coaching staff ?….
my question could seem very stupid, but I see every years some players sliding lower than expected "thanks to" suspect rumors or surprising bad workouts. Some (especially international) players could be eager to do that…
I’m french and the feeling here about batum with its draft day heart issues is that it was just a "bad buzz" created to fall into spurs hands.

PulseGlazerParticipantKids tend to not want to make less money associated with a lower pick.
Also, at this point, I feel like Mot’s going to be a Yi-like bust.

JunkYardDogParticipantthe comparison yi / donatas is there… but motiejunas is younger (that’s for sure for him)… I prefer valanciunas or vesely who are less talented but loves the game and want to improve more.
PulseGlazer : often… international kids have already make money before the draft and sometimes make long term decisions… I hope…

PulseGlazerParticipantJYD – Wasn’t Yi 19 when drafted? I agree on the choice of the other Euros of Donatas. I know international kids make money earlier, but even once in the NBA, guys tend to go for the most pay. It’s not an always thing, but usually.

JunkYardDogParticipantyi was supposed to be 19… but in fact he should be 2 or 3 years older… same kind of issue for byimombo.

VarnishkisParticipantWill find his way in the NBA sooner or later, he has been on NBA scouts radar since 16yo and had that chip on his shoulders since then. Thats where his passion for basketball isn’t so highly show like Valanciunas does. Valanciunas 2 years ago was nobody a young kid from village and he tries to use every opportunity given to him. When Motiejunas decided to move out from Lithuania to play in Italy everybody was complaining thinking he is just going to take space on the bench in quite strong Italian league, however he has prooved all them doubters wrong. Moreover, he has excellent agents who know what they doing, so if workout #1 wasn’t that successful they will make up for that, by using publicity (had strong gym session before workout) or one to one interviews or even prepare few more workouts to proove he is eligable to play in NBA. I see him making All Rookie Team next year.

PulseGlazerParticipantYi was supposed to be 19, fair, but his age wasn’t why he failed, right?

JunkYardDogParticipantSure but it changes his upside, his supposed maturity at a young age (watch out for byiombo : GMs fall in love with him and his maturity for a young man but if he’s 22 25… his supposed maturity is only normal)…
Yi underachieved cause he didn’t work to improve and he doesn’t have the mental toughness to progress.
For lots of international prospects being in the nba is yet an achievement… a dream.
