I was asking because it’s known in the NFL for certain teams to give players rings who departed from the team before they won it all. Edgerrin James got a ring from the Colts after he left for the Cardinals.

I think he does deserve one since they always play better when he’s not around. he should get finals mvp too
I’ve never seen someone have such a positive impact on a team for the simple fact of not being there. this guy is amazing!

If the Grizzlies win a ring it will be because they got rid of Rudy Gay. Him not being there to play hero ball actually helps the team. It was a case of addition by subtraction. Sad, but true.

No he shouldn’t get a ring but if they do win he should get a big THANK YOU card for leaving. As good a player as Rudy Gay is this Grizzlies teams is just so much better without him on the roster, he just didn’t fit.

It’s the teams discretion on who does and doesn’t get a ring. Considering Rudy Gay has been such a big part of the franchise for so long and was just traded this season, the front office will probably give him the option and he’ll likely decline. This happens in baseball all of the time but very rarely does a team make a trade mid-season and then go on to win the NBA Championship. But considering there are guys (Brandon Williams, Isiah Rider) who only played a few games during the season, didn’t play in the playoffs, and still got a ring even though they weren’t even on the playoff roster, I don’t think it would be too ridiculous to give Gay, who led the team in scoring for half the season, a ring for his contributions to the team. Even though it still probably won’t happen.
Not nearly as ridiculous of a post as it’s being treated.
