After punching Channing Frye in the groin and a multitude of other cheap shots by Kevin Garnett, many people were suggesting he be given the label as a dirty player. What about Andrew Bynum?

Lots of arguments with Garnett were that he took cheap shots alot. How many times does Bynum do the flying elbow to the mid section before he is considered dirty? The guy cheap shots all the time and always gets off the hook because its "toughness" and "intense play." Today he pulled the elbow to the chest on Barea, the same one he used to destroy Gerald Wallace in a prior season. He injured Michael Beasley. He made that cheap shot against Jeff Green last playoffs, and in the first round against the hornets in these playoffs, which Kobe dismissed as "playoff D."

What gets me more is he will likely only recieve maybe a game, 2 at most suspension for this play, despite being a repeat offender, and the intent of this play being incredibly obvious. He was walking towards the tunnel before Barea even hit the ground.

Also I have wondered this for a long time, but what is the difference between "playoff D" and dirty play? I thought I knew, but every time a play like this happens the arguments always comes up and confuses me further.

    Thoughts?

It was no different than a hard push, which happens several times in any NBA game. It was magnified because Barea is a small player, and the perceived fact Odom committed a flagrant earlier, which it wasn’t.

Like I said in an earlier thread, Bynum would have elbowed him in the head if he wanted to hurt him. About half this board would probably enjoy tennis or soccer more than the NBA I’m convinced. Give it a try.

No it was not. If you look at the play, Barea was in the air and Bynum made no move for the ball or to try to stop the player, he just pushed him with his arm to knock him down. If you just want a hard foul hold the guy, hug the guy, don’t push him. JJ was very lucky he didn’t get hurt, because he had no balance in the air.

Bynum did not even attempt to block the shot, he went right for Bareas chest with his forearm, not a clean move at all, and not the right way to go out.

I know alot of people are going to hate me for this but Bynum may have just became my favourite player with that move. I know it was dirty and cheap but if you watch the video you can see why he did it (why he did it does not make it right). Barea had been physical for the last couple of possessions as were all of the Dallas players throughout th game. Barea was sort of pushing off Blake, and really how many times did Barea get into the lane this series, the LA bgs cant allow that. Too little too late anyways, and even though that maybe why he did it that does not justify his actions. Sort of just love the way he decked him then walked off the court right past the Mavs bench with his head high.

If Barea had have been injured my perception would be alot different, but Im sure Bynum could have done alot more to physically hurt him.

Reminds me of the Jazz/Kings in the 1999 playoffs when Chris Webber body-checked John Stockton to "send a message". Like Jerry Sloan said, that’s cowardly. You want to prove you’re tough, go deck Karl Malone.

Andrew Bynum is not tough for cheap-shotting the smallest player on the other team. Barea is a physical player. Garnett is a dirty player. Bynum is just a p*ssy.

That shot on Barea was so uncalled for. I’m not usually a person that gets upset at hard fouls and Dallas are my 2nd favorite team so there may be some bias, but that was such a BITCH move from Bynum. He is 7ft tall and decides to chuck his elbow into 5’11 Barea going straight down the lane with no play for the ball.
