laarethekingsParticipantBeing that the lockout is on and were the dog days of summer wanted to ask a baseball question.
Had this talk with my bro… If you were the St Lou Cardinals would you sign Albert Pujols to the 300 million he’s looking for?
Or
Sign Jose Reyes and Prince Fielder to 150 million deals each… getting them both.
I say sign Reyes/Fielder combo… get much more bang for your buck. Plus you fill the SS with one of the best in baseball.

I’m Actually Not Mcdunkin so here is your swag backParticipantReyes/Fielder are both possible al/nl mvps so you definitely choose them.. Lately I might even take Reyes over Pujols alone.

NYK2010ParticipantPujols won’t get 300 million anyway.
Teams like the Mets and Dodgers are having major financial problems.
The Yankees already have Arod and Mark Texieria at the corners and its doubtful they pony up 30 mill for a DH. I bet he ends up signing with the Cards for maybe 25 -27 mill a year for like 6 years.
Who can afford to pay a guy 30 mill a year the Cubs, Angels?
Some owners are rich like the Mariners guy but will they really fork over that much money doubtful.
Fielder will get paid maybe 22-24 mill per year

BasterdInABasketParticipant300 MILLION??!!!??!! That number was ridculous three months ago when thats what he was asking. Now hes having the worst year of his career and the injuries. This is pure speculation but I wouldnt be surprised if he was a few years older than his listed 31 years. Hes been THE face of that franchise but hes on the downside of his career. Giving a quarter of their payroll to one guy is way to risky for them to give to Pujols. Id take Fielder/Reyes for sure.
Theres weight/defense concerns over Fielder but watching him here in Milwaukee hes been a rock missing only 13 games since becoming a full time starter. Defense might be a problem with him at the end of his contract. Hes an ok defender now but hell be approaching mid 30s at the end of his deal and he is a very big guy. I think and AL team will end up offering him the most money. Im still hoping he’ll give MIL a hometown discount but that hasnt happened yet and I dont expect him to now.

PlatypusParticipantas a tigers fan i would just love to get another pitcher, we have one starter who is good but the others suck we also need a right fielder and 2nd baseman just as bad.
Idea:
move cabrera to right field and sign Prince Fielder to play 1st and sign a 2nd baseman like orlando cabrera and pray for our pitchers to actually pitch decent besides verlander who will be the al cy young
dh Martinez
1 Prince
2 O. cabrera
ss Peralata
3 Inge

rileymcshea3ParticipantI would take take Prince Fielder and Jose Reyes over Albert Puyols simply because they are playing better baseball and they are younger .Not also are the playing better baseball but its 2 people over 1 and those 2 are both playing better then Albert is .So to me this is a no doubter and i would without hesitation pick Reyes and Fielder .

aamir543ParticipantI would take 2005 Albert Pujols for 350 million. But this is the 2012 Pujols, so no. I would overpay for Reyes. Injuries are the only thing that scare me. Fielder is also very good. But Lincecum is the best.

DanEboyParticipantReyes over Pujols?!
Reyes is great but he relies on his legs, something that isn’t going to work out well when he gets older. Plus he is already getting injury prone with his hamstrings. Pujols is an absolute beast and is coming back a month early from a broken wrist.
And Fielder is going to get more than $150 million. Someone will overpay for a guy that is going to burn out due to his build unless he starts to trim down.
I’m still taking Pujols over anyone in the game right now.

laarethekingsParticipantGonzalzez got 7 years 154 from the red sox… Fielder could get 160 to 165…
Crawford got 7 for 142…. I don’t see Reyes getting that… see him getting 6 years 122ish…

tyasayParticipantI take Reyes/Fielder you get a skilled up the middle player in Reyes, and a man who hits for power similar to Pujols, and its a spark at the top of the lineup if Reyes can stay Healthy

DanEboyParticipantAnd Fielder is going to command just as much money as Pujols. He is 4 years younger and having an incredible season. Plus, Boras is his agent so expect a $200 million deal.
The Mets are going to make an offer to Reyes mostly because they don’t want to piss off their fans. They love him there but I bet the Mets are skeptical about giving a ton of cash to the typr of player that doesn’t put up numbers past the age of 35 when their legs start to go.

Timmy is great and you can’t go wrong either way. I just think Halladay is the best all around pitcher on the planet. And I am not a fan of the Phillies. The pitching in baseball today is loaded with talent.

Chicago1980ParticipantThere is no way you can pay a position player no matter how good he is or how good he has been 300 million dollars especially at the age Pujols is he is 30 right now so by the end of the 10 year contract he will be 40 no one is doing steroids anymore so when he is 36 you ae not going to be getting the smae player that u have at 30. So I say pass on pujols and try to sign P Fielder hes younger and cheaper and you are basically getting the same type of player.

aamir543ParticipantYeah baseball desperately needs a salary cap. A couple years ago, the Marlins Team salary wasa combined 36 million. Alex Roderiguez makes 32 this year, and he is still good, but on the decline nonetheless. Sooner or later, some guy with 50 billion dollars is gonna buy all the good players.
