Someone who watched the game please chime in, but I was looking at the box score of the Magic-Kings game, and I couldn’t help to see that in 20 minutes, Dwight got 5 points and 4 rebounds with 1 block, and he had 4 fouls, so I’m assuming that he was in Foul trouble, which explains his lack of minutes.

Cousins also was in Foul trouble as usual, playing just 22 minutes and racking up 5 fouls, however, Cousins put up 16 and 10 with 3 blocks, in those 22 minutes, shooting 6-8 from the field.

Cousins’s plus-minus was -8, while Dwight had +10, and Dwight took just 2 shots, so that still means the Kings suck, and I don’t know whether they were matched up against each other, and every star has an off day, but if Howard was guarding Cousins even half the time, that to me is very impressive and promising.

But it is still a problem that he is fouling so much, and he still may have attitude problems, but hopefully he and Keith Smart will keep their relationship cool and calm.

Dwight was also in foul trouble and got a tech and you could tell he was just out of it even the announcers said he was but cousins did do some scoring on dwight down low he has lots of poet moves and with thy big body and skill he can score with the best on the block

Dwight got in foul trouble early and then couldn’t play his usual aggresive self when in the game. His second foul on Cousins was absolute BS, complete flop. His 4th foul was pretty questionable too. I wouldn’t say Cousins outplayed him because most of his damage came with Dwight on the bench. But he did have a better game than Howard.

Saying Cousins outplayed Howard due to the boxscore is kinda like saying Jeff Teague outplayed Derrick Rose last night. I can kinda see where you’re coming from but the boxscore can be misleading at times.

cousins was very active and howard not very concentrate making stupid fouls away from the ball….

cousins didn’t really outplay him cause they weren’t often at the same time on the court. Moreover cousins also make some stupid fouls (as usual) and didn’t mange to play more than 30 minutes.

In the first 4-minutes of the game Dwight had 2-fouls and Cousins had 5-points. Cousins definitely did put him on the bench whether you like the calls or not that was Cuz. The rest of the game was kind of mismatched between the two as they both ran into foul trouble but for that frst bit Howard came out unfocused and Cousins took advantage. You cant sleep on Demarcus.

And yes I watched the whole game I was also scared when Evans went down I thought he was badly hurt. Evans probally had his best game this season. The whole nucleaus of this team seems to be alot happier with the new coaching staff.

They need to make some trades though, Salmons playing the forward wing is definitely not working, they need a real PG to run the offence for at least 25-mpg, and roles need to be defined.

I think it is significant if any young center outplays D. Howard. Certainly worthy of a post and a question, especially if you didn’t catch the game. Maybe the new coaching staff will turn things around for the Kings.

What’s more important, the stat lines/box score or the fact that Kings still lost with Cousins even though Howard had a horrible game?

I’d say if you are looking at it as an individual matchup you might want to notice that Dwight Howard was a +10 while he was on the floor and Cousins was a -8.

You could say that, but then you could say Ryan Anderson and Glen Davis outplayed Cousins.  Box scores only tell you so much.

Cousins certainly outplayed Dwight, but only in the sense that Cousins was putting forth more effort. Dwight seemed out of sorts and really annoyed with the refs. Both committed fouls that at sometimes seemed questionable and/or stupid, but Cousins definitely played with more intensity. This game really illustrated to me that Cousins was in ridiculously terrible shape at the starts of last season. He has worked really hard during his time off and looks much better physically, but after watching that game you could see how when he became winded his decision making started to decay into committing additional fouls and turnovers. I do not feel that Cousins can play efficiently, right now, for more than 25 mpg. Which ironically is what Keith Smart said just a few days ago to Cousins himself, Bill Walton also mentioned the need for more conditioning quite a bit last night while commentating about Cousins. I think that Cousins will get to the point when he can physically give you 30+ mpg without reverting into playing his brand of "tired basketball", but it will take another year. Watch out when he does because he will be a force to be reckoned with.

Btw… I think +/- sats are insanely overused and overrated. There are nine other players on the floor and if you happen to come into the game at an inopportune point during an opponents scoring run that is completely different from your position you can have your +/- artificially lowered. you can look at player who contributed the most to the Magic’s win last night, Ryan Anderson, Glen Davis, and Jason Richardson, and their +/- scores were +10, -9, and 0 respectively. If you watched the game there is no way you would say that Howard, Reddick, and Nelson were on the same level as the prior mentioned three even though the had +/- scores of +10, +10, +9 respectively.

Both of them outplayed Cousins, leading the Magic to the win.
