Nearing the draft I feel pretty good about the opportunity Detroit has to really improve. I was pretty big on Stan Johnson until I studied Hezonjas game and I’ve totally flip flopped. I think Hezonja has a great chance to be a one day All-Star as good as he is at this point. Johnson would be nice but with the addition of Ilyasova that offense could be potent with so much spacing driving and kicking with Hezonja in Detroit. That’s what todays game is all about. I’d take a good look at him If was NY too or even Sacramento. I just hope he falls to 8. I get the same feel about Myles Turner I think he has nice potential and I believe he’s ready to at least contribute next year. I’m not sure I’d be ok with Detroit taking a backup 5/4 when they need a SF but then again they really need frontcourt depth AND shooting so why not stretch the floor some more. Plus they don’t have any rim defenders or even Centers other than Drummond and you can’t expect Andre to be able to do it all for 82 games so Id prefer taking Turner rather than forcing Johnson in at the 3. Its not that I don’t like Johnson its just that I think he wouldn’t compliment KCP on the wing. He pretty much reminds me of a bigger KCP. The way they score is different but their weaknesses at the respective positions are similar and might not mesh which could be an issue for the both of them long term. Now if we move down get a nice haul and still get Johnson or even Oubre that’s fine as long as we benefit more than we would just having the 8th pick…but as it stands I think you need to think with philosophy rather than sheer need.

Let me hear some feedback who would make Detroit a better team? What kind of potential do other fans think Detroit has? Is there any team in the late lotto that would trade for the Pistons pick

I feel that the Pistons should have a very good chance at making the playoffs next season. They need to figure out if they want Jennings or Jackson as a PG. I’m think they are leaning toward Jackson.

They really need a SF. At eight I feel it is high to take Stanley Johnson. I don’t see Wisnlow falling outside the Top 7. Hezonja I feel is a tweener on the wing, but I feel like he is full of potential. If he is still available at eight they should take him. I think the Pistons could try to move Jennings and the pick and move up a few spots. Teams like Kings and Knicks would be a possibility.

Not sure Sacramento even views Jennings an upgrade over Collison, but trading the 6th pick for the 8th and Jennings might work. Detroit would be able to get Hezonja, and the Kings could get Cauley-Stein, Lyles, or Turner at 8.

Jennings and the 8 to for New York’s 4th is also interesting.

So the only way I even consider trading down is if neither Hezonja nor Porzingis are available. At which point, sadly, the pick’s value is somewhat diminished. (Thus might as well just keep it and take Turner or Johnson, imo.)

Detroit will take Johnson over hezonja for sure, they will not risk it again on an unproven bigtime project euro… Johnson fit well with the bad boys culture they need to bring back…

There’s a chance that Winslow remains on board when Pistons get to make their choice.

I don’t think knicks would select Winslow @ 4th.  Knicks have too many wing players.  Winslow is undersized for SF, and lack of skills for SG in pro.  Knicks have the cap space to acquire other wing players via FA. Mudiay / Russel are the most likely candidates for Knicks.

Magic’s likely to go w/ WCS or the european guy… so once Winslow gets past Nuggets, i think Pistons would have a chance to select him… seems like a decent fit.

They need a wing that can shoot and that’s though. I like Stan but he can’t shoot. I think they go with Hezonja.

I don’t know if NY would want him but Jennings and the 8th would seem fair for #4 maybe if you threw in Calderon because NY defenitely wants him gone. I think Jennings stock takes a hit but he is looking like he’ll be out there early in the season if not right away so Im hopeful if we don’t keep him we make an effort to get an asset for him big or small because we didn’t HAVE to just let Monroe walk but we kept him around knowing he’d probably leave hoping we’d make the playoffs.
