Who do you think Derrick Williams best compare to?  I don’t agree w/ nbadrat.net’s comparison of David West and Beasley.  Hes wayyy more athletic than David West and play more agressive than Beasley.  Beasley is more silky smooth.  Best comparison I came up w/ is an more aggressive Jeff Green or a better perimeter and slightly less atheletic Blake Griffin.

I said in a post yestarday that he reminds me of Blake and surprisingly no one attacked me on that, obviously he isn’t  as dominante as Blake in the post but he has a better outside game.

Some of you might be too young to remember but Derrick reminds me of Antawn Jamison coming out of UNC. And for those who don’t remember Jamison was an absolute beast in college, better than Vince Carter.

Derrick Williams is a lot stronger than Antawn was in college. Jamison had a little better mid range game than Williams also.

I LOVE the Jamison comparison. That’s probably the best that I’ve heard, but he is definitly stronger than Jamison was.

In any case, I believe he’ll be the best player out of this draft.

Its tough to find a comparison to derrick williams in the nba right now.

What I came up with is a combination of these 3 players games

    glenn davis/carl landry/shawn marion

Im not as sold on him being a lock superstar in the nba yet, but he’s definetly proven a lot showing his range in his last game, which he will need in the NBA with his tweener position.

Dwill does not have the post game that Blake has, and he certainly has a better perimeter game then Blake. He is also not as athletic as Blake is, although Dwill is pretty athletic himself. When you compare someone like Derrick you have to consider the fact that he is a tweener and will either play SF or PF at the next level depending on which team he gets drafted by and what that team needs him to be. Derrick will have no problem with this however because he is very versatile, he will do whatever a coach asks of him, and he will always rise above the opposition. Considering this and his game, Antwan Jamison is a really good comparison if you consider him a PF. But if you consider him a 3 then I think Danny Granger serves as a good comparison.

Antwan Jamison/Danny Granger that would be my comparison. Derrick Williams is probably my draft prospect, and which ever team drafts him is going to be very pleased with what he can offer.

A little Carmelo in his game. Inside/outside game, very very clutch. Too strong for SF, too quick for PF. Except Williams is about an inch taller, a little more of a 4, but I can see him being a 3 at the next level.

Carmelo mixed w/ Blake Griffin is his ceiling.

^^^Dwill isn’t quite the #1 option that both Carmelo and Blake are. Derrick has more range than Blake does yet he is not as athletic as Blake is and certainly not as athletic as Carmelo is. Derrick is very athletic, don’t get me wrong but his athleticism does not compare to melo or Blake. He also doesn’t have the post game that Griffin has. I actually that the Atwaun Jamison/ Danny Granger comparison is pretty good.

if so many people do see a beasley-west mix why arent they supporting it?

he is pretty athletic for a 4 and has good range not as wet as many other comparison but pretty good going into the nba

i would say a not as wet amare but slightly stronger/more built

If he can hit from the perimeter and can fit the role of a small forward, then Andre it is.

Some of the comparisons are just nonsense.  Carmelo mixed with Griffin? Iggy?  I think Jamison is the best that I have heard in a while.  The guy clearly has his own style of game thou.

I only started watching Derrick Williams play in the tourney and he kinda reminds me of a more athletic Lamar Odom. Can shoot the 3 from time to time, rebounds good, runs the floor amazing only thing off is he isnt much of a play maker that Lamar is.

I like parts of the Antawn Jamison comparison, but Williams is quite a bit more athletic. When I watch Derrick Williams play I see aspects of some guys that played during the 90s like Larry Johnson, Glenn "Big Dog" Robinson and I can also see a little bit of James Worthy or Jamal Mashburn to his game. In my mind, I think Larry Johnson is the best comparison…Derrick Williams is taller, but LJ was extremely athletic, but also was a pretty reliable outside shooter throughout his career before being slowed down by injuries.

its impossible to compare this dude he got his on style of play Griffin and D.Williams is  totally different in 100 ways Beasley is a real scorer I think he’s transforming into a legit SF Melo has a all around game mid range is what he’s best at. With williams i cant quite find a player for him but he’s goin to have a hell of a career I dont see any super stars in this draft but he will be a solid starter.

how does Antawn Jamison comparison is better than Shareef Abdur Rahim comparison? Derrick Williams is much more in style like Abdur Rahim than the unorthodox style of Jamison, athletically he is also closer to Shareef then Jamison but better then both.

The Jamison comparison is starting to make sense but their are 3 huge problems for me.

-Williams is way more athletic then Jamison

-Jamison was alot skinnier, and Williams has pretty good size

-Jamison has/had a true mid range game which was completely money which I dont see from Williams

Also I dont feel like Williams is a tweener, but more of a combo SF/PF. He can play PF fine, but at SF he will have a bit of a disadvantage. He is not stuck inbetween positions like Jamison has been his whole career. Maybe Im just nitpicking but I still dont like the comparison.

anyone comparing williams to melo should have their posting priveleges revoked. Melo is the best offensive player in the NBA and your comparing a soph with a lot of questions to him..  and for blake griffin, he’s a once in 10 years player and no way comparable to griffins athleticism and finishing ability

Antawn jamison meets michael beasley (without atittude problem) i like the big dog and grandmama comparison, because dwill is a type of player like glenn robinson and lj,plays pf and sf in college, and will play pf and sf in the nba,but he needs to improve his lateral quickness and his handles.. Lj is 6’7 same as with big dog.. I think i could compare him to a shorter but a workhorse derrick coleman.. Another comparison that i can think of is a more athletic and more inside banger antoine walker..

I don’t know who he compares to. I am not impressed with his ball handling(against athletic strong defenders). So I don’t think he will play the 3. I can see a David West type career(better leaper) or maybe he can carve out a similar career to Rasheed Wallace(tho he is shorter).
