Derozan or Budinger ?

Budinger averaged around 18 a game and shot the three around 40 percent last season. Derozan averaged 13 and shot 16 percent from three. I think Chase is more talented at coming off of screens and hitting the jump shot quick with his high release point. Deroozan showed a little potential at the end of the season but no where to the level of Chase. Both are great atheletes, so who is going to be better and who is the safer pick?

Budinger is definitely

Budinger is definitely safer, but this is a gambling league and it's the reason Derozan will get drafted higher.

Yes

I agree with both. I would still take the big man with range and more NBA polish

Derozen

It's funny people assume Budinger is so athletic. All of his athleticism comes from his vertical jump. Other than that he has an average first step and doesn't run the court like some other small forwards in this draft.

Chase Budinger reminds me of a much less polished Mike Dunleavy or a less athletic Brent Barry (don't forget he won the slam dunk contest). Although he is a decent spot-up jump shooter, he cannot create his own shot as well.

Derozen is definitely more athletic. He reminds me of a Josh Howard type player. Derozen has all the potential in the world. Hopefully he won't turn out to be another Gerald Green.

I will also say that Budinger has been hyped-up since high school. I recall draft boards picking him in the top 10 before he even played a single game in college. I doubt he will amount to much. Does anyone remember Luke Jackson (Oregon) who was drafted 10th overall? He was a beast with a much better offensive game and he never did much in the NBA.

Luke was not as good an athelete

Budinger does not have to blow past people that won't be his game. You know what? That won't be Derozans game either he does not show that ability. I do know Budinger can give a shot fake that will be contested and then take a few dribbles. He can then pull up and stick the jumper I have seen him do it. I am black, but I wonder if Budinger was not white would you compare him to Luke Jackson. I saw Jackson play I think Chase is much better than him. Not saying he is an all star but I did not think that highly of Luke anyways. I am high on Chase. I see more potential and there is no reason why he can't get better he is still young. Chase is not the crazy fast but from what i have seen he is not slow running the floor he gets out ahead often and catches the oop so.

I don't know... Luke Jackson

I don't know... Luke Jackson used to DOMINATE... almost as much as Adam Morrison at Gonzaga.

Derozen can do a much better job creating his shoot than Budinger can. He showed that in the NCAA tournament.

Btw, Marco Belinelli is a much more athletic, offensively polished version of Budinger and he can't get many minutes on a subpar team.

Budinger. Much higer hoop

Budinger. Much higer hoop IQ,better overall shooter, better passer/playmaker.

As for the Bellineli comparsion, the kid has TERRIBLE shot selection, is about 2inches shorter, and is playing on a team LOADED with wing players. Budinger Knows his limitations and sticks to them. Yet he still has the potential you look for in a 3rd-4th option,

As for Derozan being such a better athlete, the numbers say otherwise. In regards to shot creating, neither is worh a crap, and I'll take the guy who has consistently gotten better each year at UA over the guy who had a decent last month and played like Garbage the rest of the time. Or have you forgotten so quickly that Derozan was a top pck on this site coming into the draft having never played college ball before.

I agree iguapops420

Bellineli thinks he is a point guard. Chase does what he does best and does not try to do much more. Luke Jackson is similar to Marco he thinks he is a point and your crazy Morrison scored a ton at Gonzaga, Luke averaged like 19 so your way off. Morrison was scoring like 26 a game in that weak conference, and Chase smokes him in athleticsm so they don't compare. You are once again comparing him to other white players. Why mb6297? This is coming from a black man right here, if Chase was Black most people would take him over Derozan because the numbers do not compare.

budinger

You know what your getting with Chase and if he adds more to his game it's a plus. With Demar you know your getting the athleticism and your banking your organization on his potential. Chase may just be a notch below Demar in the athleticism (Mcdonalds Dunk Champ runner up) and teams will have to respect his J unlike Demar. You can defend Demar like kobe did Rajon Rondo in the 08 finals and with his low BB IQ he will be forced to make good decisions with handling the ball and I don't think Demar will be able to do that

Adam Morrison is a good player

I hate all this hating. He has a lack of confidence and if he got over that he would be averaging 15 points a game

Ok first of if there is

Ok first of if there is anything lacking from Morrison's game it most certainlyis not confidence. Morrison is a winner, and whether you want to admit it r not, he is as unathletic as they come. He is a backup to the backups on a laer team where he plays behind SASHA VUJACIC and LUKE WALTON. If he was any good in the NBA he would have at least made a significant impact on tis laker team that is lacking a true three point threat(Vujacic did lose his confidence from last year) with high bball iq. He would be the perfect playerin the tri as his skillset is taylor made for the three post offense. He's the mix you get when you take sasha's shooting/passion and add Luke'shoop IQ and all around game, yet he still can't even crack rotation. He's your best comparison for Luke Jackson.

As for Derozan he's a lot more Travis Outlaw at the same age than he is VC.
Chase Budinger looks like a poor man's JR Smith with IQ minus the ego.

scout4real, I'm not

scout4real,

I'm not intentionally comparing white players to other white players and black guys to other black guys. Chase's college situation and overall game is similar to the players I wrote.

Chase 21 yrs old, 18pts in 38 mins, fga 13, fg% 48
Derozen 19 yrs old, 14pts in 34 mins, fga 10, fg% 52

Guys are very close

Chase has a huge advantage in 3p% 40 (Derozen 17%) and is stronger than him (10 bench press reps, to 5 from Derozen). But what the hell is up with Budinger's 10% bodyfat? Derozen body fat is 5%.

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Chase-Budinger-502/

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Demar-DeRozan-1319/

The stats are not too different. Remember that Budinger was a junior whereas Derozen is a freshman.

Budinger will not get much better than he is now... and he won't become more athletic either. Derozen on the other hand has all the potential in the world and his game is very close to Budinger's already.

I like the Travis Outlaw

I like the Travis Outlaw comparision somewhat... because both were very raw talents and extremely athletic.

Outlaw came straight out of high schoo, however. He was a little less polished than Derozen offensively. Derozen is also two inches shorter than Outlaw.

You can take Budingr if you

You can take Budingr if you want, but its kinda like GMs who would have taken Okafor over Howard. Budinger is better as a 21 yr old vs an 18 yo, but Derozan in 3 yrs will obviously...obviously, be at least just as good, and maybe drastically better.

Previous drafts are littered w/ examples like this. Bottom line, its a marathon, not a sprint. Derozan's ceiling is top 3 SG. Budinger's ceiling is basically Mike Miller.

Demar Derozan 6' 5.5" 6'

Demar Derozan 6' 5.5" 6' 6.5" 211 6' 9" 8' 6.5" 4.9 29.0 38.5 5 11.88 3.31

Slightly undersized wingspan. Seems to be slightly underweight even wth only 5%body fat. and only has a 38.5 vert on a run? No thanks. His lateral/3/4 court time is PF/C speed. Not Quite as athletic as you think.

Chase Budinger 6' 6.25" 6' 7" 206 6' 7" 8' 5" 10.0 29.5 38.5 10 11.08 3.24

10% body fat? Room to bulk up should help his upperbody. Fair lateral. Slow 3/4 court sprint. Surprising 2step vert.

As for budinger's ceiling of Mike Mille is fair, but Derozandoesn't have the upside everyonethinks he does. Thus the reason i used Outlaw. Very similar skillset athleticism, ad Outlaw has worked his ass off to get where he's at. Not to metion working ou with Kobe in the offseason. It all depends if Derozan has the drive and desire to be the best which up to know. He hasn't shown.

Disagree that Derozan is a future Stud. Not saying he won't,....just that he's not gonna be what everyone thinks. Had you saw him play this year w/o all of the media coverage coming out of hghschool, would we even be having this conversation.
